This seems to be the general opinion of all the old fans :( Their new stuff probably gets a lot of clicks because it's porn or outrageous (like all the other apps) but they've completely lost their loyal fanbase. I was one of those annoying fact-collecting people who could tell you how many love interests had a particular eye colour LMAO (no, really) and I can barely think about it now. There's some genuine grief there, yikes!! I think I started playing in late 2018? I binged the whole catalogue and then liked most of their new releases, but now I like about one book per year. I have vowed to complete all their books for discussion purposes but I sure feel like I've wasted a lot of time.

Completeley agree! I'm actually way more into media work than team sports but that doesn't necessarily translate into what makes good fiction! Especially for the purpose of escapism. They have so much romance already and I agree that it's far more interesting when it's not the focus. If we hear about it all the time it's obvious that it's all gonna be fine and makes it feel like nothing else matters that much anyway since it's underdeveloped. It's usually less of a focus when there's multiple LIs so give us a teammate, rival and maybe a fan at least so we have the extra tension of actually being able to choose lol.

HAH I get it! My condolences for slating Kieran like this, I know they're popular so I'm glad the series has continued. For me it's stuff like the dragging by the hair, ownership and other unsafe BDSM elements made me super uncomfortable and I just don't like the personality/relationship of Kieran and the MC to be completely honest. That being said, that's just my opinion and it's super interesting to hear from somebody who thinks the opposite so I'd love to hear your thoughts on Kieran and The Cursed Heart as a whole if you'd like to share 👀

@@dramaqueen4934 It's Hayden, Damien and Sloane in book 1 and there are two more minor love interests in book 2 (Alana and Khan). You can date all 5 of them at once if you want which is great, but it comes down to your personal preference- if you don't like the lis and play for the romance it won't be for you :)

HAH you've read my mind to be honest. I like to give them the benefit of the doubt because there's real people behind these books buuuttt they've taken away all the things that made it important to people and created another one of hundreds of smut apps that don't cater to the people that made the app popular in the first place. I read every book purely so that I can comment on them, but yeesh I struggle through most of what is put out nowadays. Hopefully they'll listen to the surveys but I suppose the majority of their audience now is here for the smut and will probably be voting for it.

YES I am constantly wondering why he isn't more popular! When people do praise him, it's usually for the spicy sex scenes but they're the least interesting part of their relationship (though I do like the way they're written- they pulled off kinks without making it seem like they just wanted it to be 'hot', they joke about it and keep up communication etc so it seems natural, light-hearted, fun and not cringy). It's nice to see a kind, emotionally intelligent character that isn't overly sweet, as well as a cynical person who isn't an asshole. The fact that they'd been friends for so long gives them a good dynamic from the get-go, I think relationships need time so it's a good way to establish a connection I guess? I never felt their relationship would've been better as a friendship as a lot of friends-to-lovers relationships do so that's a plus. I agree that it's one of the better tropes when it's pulled off correctly!! I can imagine the fanfic process here is fantastic as there's SO much content, including things we haven't seen on-screen, that would be great to explore. I wish you so much luck with that! Is it published online? (I also loved those scenes, they actually made me nervous instead of just like oh this is an excuse to rush their relationship and get them together- it never felt like a romantic plotline, it was rightfully a traumatic one!!). Fair enough with Jake too, his story does make me pretty damned emotional lmao & I do love him as a character, when I first read ES I was a WRECK. Vaanu feels like the 'true' ending to me but the imperfections of it are part of what make it my favourite. I was SO upset at the time and actually a little mad (I WAS a teenager lmao) but the fact that it's still by far my favourite conclusion to a choices book and still makes me sad to this day proves how good it was IMO, not idealistic but still felt 'right'. I like to think that Jake eventually found happiness as it is implied when they're all smiling at the end but yeah it would've been a ROUGH ride for him. I suppose no matter which ending you choose he still would've had a lot to deal with to find peace- it's kinda in his character lol. At least in Vaanu he has a chance to create a life for himself & heal with what he learnt on La Huerta even if he doesn't know where to turn yet, whereas with the endless ending he is trapped with his past forever and can never move forward. Poor Jake no matter what, honestly. ANYWAYYY, you type appears to be 'written by Andrew Schwartz' (fantastic choice, really)

Yeah there's definitely some unnecessary 'forbidden' romance elements between them, I think PB wanted to keep things interesting but it read as a bit ridiculous after a point lol. I didn't mind in book 1 so much as their relationship was slow burning and it was a legitimate concern, but I have a PRETTY GOOD feeling that everyone knew they were together after that point anyway (if you romanced him) haha. All of the OH love interests were a bit like that tbh, they're barely a couple until the L word is sprung on you in the finale.

I'm definitely in the minority so I'm sure a lot of people would agree with you lol, glad you enjoyed it! Unfortunately I hated it from the start, I was constantly pissed off and bored (unsafe BDSM was mentioned in the first few lines and I don't enjoy that content). Having an LI bossing the MC around and dragging them by the hair etc just made me mad, I understand that Keiran's heart was broken or something but I hated them and didn't feel that it was the MC's responsibility to fix it. Plus I didn't like any of the other characters/relationships. The only thing I liked was the artwork for the fae world (stunning!). That being said, I'm glad that there will be a sequel because so many other people seemed to love it!💕 I'd love to know your thoughts about it!

@@ic_aitz omg i never thought of the book that way 😭😭 i'm sorry 🥺 what i lovee about this book are all the scenes and the characters too! They were all unique in their own way. And what i also loved was that at the beginning kieran was portrayed as an evil and frightening character whereas everyone loved and adored radiance, but at the end kieran was true and radiance was so evil (i really liked him tho 😭) like it taught a lesson that not everything is as it seems. and after finishing this book, it had a lingering effect (which i rarely get) yeah so that's why it's my fav! And i ofc respect your opinion too!! 💞😁

As you mentioned, it's nice to show that things/people can't be judged at first sight. It would've been cool if Radiance had been morally grey too, it was a shame that they turned out to be completely evil, it might've been cool to show that neither Radiance or Keiran were fully 'good' or 'bad'. The story may not have been for me, but It's great to hear that it has had such a positive affect on people! ☺

I LOVE that this book inspired you and that you loved it!! That's great! I'm glad that every book has its fanbase. I love modeling and design as subjects but I thought the story and writing were weak if I'm honest, I felt that it had childish/unrealistic (not in the fun way) writing but of course that's just me and I've liked things that are objectively worse lol. Plus I didn't like any of the characters (though I didn't bother with premium scenes so let me know if you think I'm missing something major). I wouldn't play it again for fun personally as it stands but I agree Hazel is 👌👌 the best

And it was kind of cocky for how many of the opportunities felt like served on a silver platter like getting that photoshoot from marco in the first chapter. But yeah, for me the concept was banger. Ok I watched it! Kept laughing as you kept on trying to put the male MCs in almost as bad as incest but then went hmm do I hate them as much as Julian though?? And the answer is always no ❤ I cannot explain the palpable rage Julian gives me, I've never wanted to drown a character so bad oh my GOD. You did will dirty though 😔 can't believe you put the character who carried the entire series while dragging his two cardboard cutout partners with him in good tier smh. Jessamine <3 jessamine and grace have the same flavour I can't explain it. The let down of the female characters and their relationships throughout the last hours series is really the biggest disappointment of all the books and just makes me kinda angry because it really shows that even where this is material to work with and interesting ideas, the female characters will always get sidelined and underdeveloped to focus on the 'hot men' and the forced romances. When people say that feminism isn't needed in modern society it's like while yes laws are much more equal now, just read a cc book and maybe you will see. Maybe you will see 😢. I always write big essays to you about these books so I will try and wrap up now, but I'm very glad to hear that Mathews alcoholism recovery is treated with more of the appropriate respect. How the condition was treated earlier in the series really left a bad taste in my mouth and I'm glad that especially young readers will see that alcoholism is an ILLNESS and something you need help with just like any other condition. He'll just be standing there and I'm like oh here he goes again 🙄 The others make me roll my eyes but this is different <\3 Yeah Will is working hard bless him you're right you're right, loving the character development too ❤️ His taste is questionable though 🧐 I believe I'm biased against all TID characters because I found it boring. Except Jessamine apparently, I think we can see a pattern in my favourite girl personalities. YOU'RE RIGHT there's always potential for the women to have incredible stories, interactions etc so we know cc is capable of doing better, but the long traditions in the media against female characters have made it so that it's verrry difficult to find stories where that potential is reached. It's almost like creators are afraid that people won't care about women outside of their romantic relationships (and it's not entirely unfounded? We've seen how fandoms react to women). No I was SO surprised about Matthew, chain of thorns wasn't perfect but it was MILES above CoI (pls tell me your opinions if you ever read it because I might be stupid). Not everything was sorted but looking at some of these characters and at least seeing them go back to pre-COI levels. As if Matthew got a somewhat good ending!?!? I'm so used to disappointment!!! I think it just frustrates me more because the potential is clearly there but then misogyny gets in the way. I hadn't thought before that cc might just have been trying to write what is marketable, a very big brained point! Maybe that is why Anna and Ari's relationship was the way it was, as cc perchance thought that the sexual aspect was the only way it would interest the reader? ..... ANYWAY yes, it's strange because cc obviously has lots of close friendships with women but it doesn't translate into writing, it shows the internalised misogyny pretty well- plus, what the editors and agents think is more acceptable for profit. It's the triangle of marketability, recycling tropes and Horny 😔 Anna & Ari felt weirdly male-gazey in book 2 despite the author, target audience &c being women? Most Wanted is a mystery & crime story with virtually no romance, so it may be worth a shot! Unfortunately, the rest of the genre on Choices is quite romance-heavy. Out of the 5 detective stories, 2 are very heavily based on romance. The other two are Veil of Secrets and Murder at Homecoming, both have a fair amount of romance but you can ignore it if you choose to do so. It'll probably still be just as enjoyable. If you're interested in mystery outside of detective stuff, there may be a few more options!

The It Lives series and Endless Summer could be worth a try! It's... quite difficult to find choices books without a lot of romance lol, a lot of the time you have to be willing to ignore it.

Diamond mining is truly a task for the brave and the foolish (me being the latter). Your tastes are similar to mine, I think older books would be your style! Here are my Top 5 recommendations for you 😎 1. Veil of secrets. It's gender of choice (there's a mistake at one point but we'll let them off), a mystery and it's kinda like a grown-up version of murder at homecoming. 2. Perfect Match! It's actually a mystery/sci-fi and fairly high stakes, even though the first half of book 1 would tell you otherwise. If you're willing to stick around until book 2 I think you might like it! It's a risky one to recommend but hey 3. The Elementalists- a lot of people who enjoy the books that you mentioned seem to like it. 4. As you enjoyed Open Heart, you might like Laws of Attraction. It's not quite the same- I think Open Heart is more emotionally taxing & feels like it has higher stakes- but I think it's the closest match. 5. Wake the Dead My top pick for a single love interest book for you would be Crimes of Passion. I don't think many of them fit your preferences, but if you're interested in trying them out then I think CoP is the one you're most likely to enjoy. Let me know if you have tried any of these and what you thought of them!

@@ic_aitz I’ve actually played elementalist and loved it at first, but part of me found the characters very annoying. Like you, I loved becket, but he got so tedious by the end. Veil of Secrets is one I never tried. I absolutely adored murder at homecoming, so this sounds promising. Murder at homecoming was excellent because up until the last few chapters, I honestly had no idea who the murderer was. I also loved it because the main character actually felt real. He (in my case) actually felt flawed. He couldn’t let go of the case and it sort of grew to obsession at some points. It feels like so many of the MC’s in these stories are the same personality. Every flirt option is far too confident, every time you choose a right answer the MC is hella smug and lowkey egotistical. I really hope they start adding some personality to these characters. Or at least give us more dialogue options to let us dictate what their personality is. So often it’s the MC that’s the most bland character in the book. I think I’ve played some of Wake the Dead when it first came out, but I honestly don’t remember it. Not sure if that’s a bad sign or not. Worth trying again I suppose.

@@BBS-dl1lt Haha yeah it's definitely a divided one, less so than open heart but you'd have no problem finding a range of opinions. Most people I've come across found Veil of Secrets surprising- just try to stay away from spoilers ;) WtD may be worth a try, I personally didn't find it super memorable but definitely enjoyable. I don't see too much hate for it. It's all subjective, I guess! I'm 100% with you on MCs, they can make or break a story. I've found that there is a correlation between how much I like an MC and how much I like a book- maybe because the writing is better overall. Plus, the fact that MCs were written to be white women (and Lis to be white men) used to be quite obvious, and I feel that the editing has improved over time (in a few books) to show the different experiences one can have. Basically I'm trying to say that diversifying Mcs- including personality- is so important. Most are sexual as hell & huge on romance which is fine but I can't relate to them. Plus, some of the romance dialogue options border on harassment. Being able to choose their personality would be major, and bring back some 'choice' beyond who your love interest is. Unless you don't get that choice either.

@@ic_aitz yeah I think the main characters that are too obsessed with romance are the weakest, least interesting ones. Murder at homecoming was particularly well crafted. I think the It Lives series protagonists were both very good too. Very interesting characters on their own right. What books do you recommend based on how good the main character is?

@@BBS-dl1lt Yeah, unfortunately the game is heavily centred on romance so it's difficult to find Mcs with other priorities. I think our preferences would be slightly different, because although I love those MCs I'm also fond of some of the idiots ;)) Many of my favourite MCs are genderlocked so I can't recommend them, but the Perfect Match MC is my favourite. Crimes of Passion MC is also a breath of fresh air! That being said, they're still fairly romantic MCs, just fun to play. You've read the books with my other gender of choice favourites lol. Maybe Laws? There are many I enjoyed playing because they were different, but idk if I'd class them as high quality so it's down to preference.

Agreed! It's the perfect balance of trashy and good imo. I'm so glad that PB managed to get a sequel in the works. It's the book I've been most invested in in a while.

I don't check up on what books they'll make, but I really should. I'm happy with the updates and also surprised at the fact that they are making a book 2 for Immortal Desires. It 100% needed one and the interactions now will probably be very interesting. I hope it gets released this year. I must comment on Open Heart Book 3 though.. I am amazed because Book 2 was the perfect setup for so many cool things and now they're gone. It feels like they forgot what story they were going for. I'm still not finished with it, so I hope some characters come back at the end (plus idk if there'll be a sequel), but it is sad either way. I agree with you about everything else regarding it though (I despise Ethan get him away)

Hoping for sequels is futile, so I'm no longer excited to find out about them lol- especially now that they've admitted that the VIP structure makes it difficult to produce them. Immortal Desires 2 was a HUGE win, the ending to book 1 would have been awful without a sequel imo. As for Open Heart, I completely agree and man I can't shut up about it lmao. I won't spoil it, but from books 2-3 they gave up on the things that I thought they'd definitely give us. Andddd kinda definitely ruined the rest. I thought that after the haitus in book 2 we'd be back on track. I really hope you enjoy it though (even though Ethan is 90% of the story), someone deserves to!

Yeah I figured it was a way to get us to use up our keys. 100 chapters is no small feat, yet it's probably a similar length to any other book despite requiring more resources to get through it. Plus, a lot was behind a paywall so the chapters in my playthrough only lasted a few minutes each. It's not a problem for somebody like me who didn't enjoy it but it's a shame for the people who did :( It was pretty dirty of PB to split full sized chapters into shorter ones, so I completely agree with you on that. Yeah I hate TNA too. I have a lot of those moments where I consider dramatically uninstalling lmao and the nanny affair was probably the first book that made me worry about the future of choices. Combine that with countless chapters and it's a nightmare, but if other people want it I'm happy they're still making it. I just wish they wouldn't cancel so many other books in the process

Mason, Mickey and my man Carter are the only good things about TNA lol the fact that they did a spin-off from Sam's perspective had me cackling
