The issue is his maturity isn’t consistent, it doesn’t grow as time goes on and instead is constantly going up and down. It goes up in SA2, down in Heroes/Shadow, up in 06/Unleashed, down in colours, bit up in gens, way down in lost world, way up in Forces then even higher in Frontiers, then down a bit in Dream Team; plus Sonic Prime somewhere between Colours & Forces. If Sonic’s maturity at least stays close to the level of Frontiers I’d say he’s 17-18, but in the next game he’s likely gonna feel younger again.

From a design and coding standpoint, Sonic '06 is objectively one of the worst games in the franchise, but every time I go back to it on my Xbox 360, which I bought just to play it on real hardware, I can't help but love it. If it had more time in the oven, a lot of the design could've been refined, and it feels like some of the middling design was changed at the last minute to match with the shoddy programming. But honestly, the fact that the game is bad makes it more fun to play if anything. Sonic Heroes is objectively the better game, but for me it's just no fun. Sonic '06 has bugs that are fun to abuse like Omega's hover spam and Silver carrying boxes while standing on them, and if those weren't there I just wouldn't find the game quite as enjoyable. For me, a bad game that tries so hard to give me a good time is better than a mediocre game that doesn't have anything egregiously bad, but also nothing particularly enjoyable. TL;DR: I know Sonic 06 is a bad game, but I still love it despite its many shortcomings. It has a charm that some of the better games just don't.

Since boost is now activated via the right trigger, I see no reason to not have both double jump and air dash. Air dash on X/Square and double jump on A/Cross. Idk just seems right.

I don't like it when jumpdashes don't uncurl the characters on activation, something about them throwing their arms out midair (plus the trail of course) makes it look more like a proper dash... oh yeah, and the double jump feels like it's only there because steering in modern games kinda sucks, even in Frontiers there's a weird arch to turning midair and it really sucks

I think Aquatic Ruin is still night of Day 1. The sky is blue, yeah, but a very dark blue, unlike the bright blue in Emerald Hill. So Hill Top is the start of Day 2 imo. Oil Ocean confused me too, but I think it's noon. The sun is in the middle of the sky, Metropolis could be in the afternoon.

Personally, SA2 has and might always be my favorite BUT if Shadow Generations is even half as good as the marketing has been? It could easily be in my Top 5. It is definitely checking all the boxes for me and I think, like you said, contender is the right word for it. Really going to come down to how the game feels to play, because personally, you can make a game with PS1 graphics but if the gameplay is great, I'll love it. SXSG looks beautiful, let's hope it plays beautifully too!

Dethrone SA2?, SA2 wasn’t a good game to begin with, that game has bad controls, janky physics, linear asf automated level design, and mech and treasure stages that are slow, repetitive and take up 80% of the game, even SA1 is better then that overrated piece of trash, id rather play the boost era

I think sonic colors handles the jump dash well because you can also double jump then hit another button to dash

SA2 is a good game but I get frustrated with some treasure hunting levels . For me personnally , it cannot be the best game if I get frustrated

Sonic heroes air dash sounded so vicious aswell, if you stand there as sonic, you can hear tails and knuckles air dashing/homing attack the enemies. It looked so clean with the speed and sound
