What I like about this production is that the policemen are correctly shown as apprehensive country bumpkins, and not as a gleaming and incorrectly-costumed Broadway Keystone Cops. There is some good "business" onstage, and some enjoyable singing, too.

Thank you for the lyrics, but the image montage progresses from the glory of the British Empire, to the suffering that engendered, to... irrelevance. George W. Bush's "Mission Accomplished"? Selma? MLK Jr? BLM? You can't just splash images of racial oppression in the USA along with that of British Imperialism and expect to make a coherent point. When listening to H.M.S. Pinafore, is it mandatory that the audience writhe with guilt over the sins of imperialism?
