In 2019 Athearn released a engine on behalf of Norfolk Southern's very own SD60E in the First Responders paint scheme that NS did back in 2015. It also was equipped with the new Tsunami-2 Sound decoder from Soundtraxx.

I decided to get a quick video going to the auto repair shop where she will be getting quite a bit of work for the next month or so. Instead of towing it I decided to drive it myself. Ironically, the alternator light illuminated just before my exit.

I decided because it was a sunny but cold day here in Chicago to take the car cover off and start her up just because I don't want the battery to die. As you can see upon start up, she has developed a loud power steering whine, most likely needing a new PS pump. Fluid has already been topped off several times as well.

Great video, it brings back memories for me. I bought a ‘72 Mark IV for $800 from my widowed neighbor in 1982 when I was 16. It’d been her husband’s car, who passed away in 1977, and sat in her garage ever since. It had 30,000 miles on the clock when I bought it and still looked like new inside and out. I drove it for 5 years, put another 30,000 miles on it, and then sold it for $3000. I wish I’d kept it now. Sure would be fun to own one like it again.

That OG look, these 70s cars, super low to the ground and wide. Aggressively cool. Undeniable. Nothing beats the old school. They stood out from other cars even in the 70s. In the 2020s you bet this OG classic will turn heads

Beautiful layout! I’m building an n scale layout myself. So far I’ve picked up seven DCC diesel locomotives. 3-Santa Fe , CSX , 2-Norfolk Southern, & Union Pacific.

@kcgrailgilbert8466 huh? I'm not understanding what you're asking. If you're saying are they Both DCC Sound...only the Kato NS SD80MAC is. The CSX is dcc no Sound. And yes I have my own layout. You can see plenty of videos on my page.

Yea those are from a 80s Town car I think. They were on it when I bought it but looked good with the expensive American Classic Whitewall tires so I'll keep em for now. Definitely going to upgrade wheels at some point though.

Very nice. Yes you have to start and run them every so often over the winter here in the midwest. Sounded like it did not really want to start. Maybe when it gets warmer the whine will go away. Can always hope.
Yea it went away for the most part when I put the power steering fluid in but there's still a slight noise. I imagine the gear box might be worn out as well. Thanks for watching

Yea man that was a tough and painful lesson. Some of my most sentimental trains were taken. Crazy part is...I saw them online being sold on Ebay from a pawn shop near me. Went to the police to get them back. They wouldn't give them to me because I didn't have any identification on each train.

That is a nice layout for being in what looks to be an unheated garage in Chicago. I live East of you just outside of South Bend, IN. So I know how cold it can get in the garage. And my garage is attached to the house so it stays a little warmer. That is why my layout is in the basement. Looking forward to seeing future videos and watching the progress. Thanks for sharing.

This guy named Chris did the car for me and I also have a matching F40 by Kato he did. Actually both are Kato. He does decals now. He has a full page and internet website for purchasing decals.

Appreciate you being convinced to do a tour and share your layout…you got a lot to work with…lots of industries to switch mixed with passenger…and when you get them connected a long run…is the church and pastor house to large to move on the same side as the commuter station? Doing some good work

There's a product called Hi-yield 33 plus turf termite and ornamental insect control that will keep spiders out of the garage. I would suggest some insulation and some cheap drywall to help keep the temps in the garage decent. I used to live in Michigan and know of the horrible cold that is there. You have a lot of nice items and plans on and for your layout. I would like to see future updates. I too have a garage layout but it's in a finished room off to the side of the garage.
Thanks man for the suggestion. I will look on Amazon for the repellent. It's either insects bugs and dust at the top of the layout or mice and rodent droppings and leaves at the bottom. Ugh! A never ending battle. I honestly want a bigger house just so I could bring my layout inside and into the basement. Or have a dedicated train room.
