Having not hiked for decades, life having gotten in the way, I got back into hiking with my Grandson Michael and the old fire was rekindled. Now I share my love for the wild places and the various peaks with you to enjoy. I'm not a gear freak, though quality gear is important. I'm not a "gram counter" though I'm working to shed pack weight to further my hiking distances. I just loving to see the wild world that God has blessed us with.
Zealand and Hale in Summer
My first NH4K of the official summer, this hike completes Mt Hale in all four seasons. Still need Zealand in Fall and Winter. Kind of glad to not have to hike Hale again (unless I decide to go for a Grid) Also I tried a new style, please comment and tell me what you think!

Another big adventure in the Whites. Going over Wildcat ridge trail, we got some really epic views, some challenging climbs and just enjoyed the time in the mountains. The goal is a total of 10 summits (6 4K, 1 52 WAV, and 3 unlisted) over 3 days and 2 nights. Can I get it done?

Going for a big 14 Mile, 3 summit hike this time. We're taking the Link Trail to Castle Trail (to avoid the water crossing at the start of the Castle Trail), then following Castle Trail to the summit of Jefferson. We'll follow the ridge line over Adams and Madison. Will we make it the whole way?

❤❤❤
I laughed when you said "it's all downhill from here." That stretch is no joke!
Yea, the care taker at Kinsman Pond seemed very concerned and asked if we were familiar with the descent down South Kinsman. He seemed worried for some strange reason.
That was a very touching tribute.
Thank you, sir
❤❤❤
Absolutely amazing!! God bless you on this life's journey. May His comfort see you through each new day.
Thank you. I thought I was mentally ready when it happened. I was wrong. But God is still there with me in the midst of my mess.
❤👼❤👼❤ David, this beeping such a smile to my face. And i know it did the same for her looking down on us
Yes, I'm sure she appreciated the love shown by all her friends.
Beautiful start of the day for sure! All around great day!!
It was a great start to the day for sure. Some of the best stills I've ever gotten off that sunrise.
I love that ridge hike. Looks like you had some great weather for it. Love seeing the snow hang on (glad I'm not walking on it).
Yea. At one point, one of my feet missed the packed rail, and I basically went crotch deep with one leg. It was not fun, but overall the hike really was a good one.
Looks like an excellent trail for an adventure
It absolutely was a great trail.
That was quite the climb!! Sure do get rewarded with some amazing views though! Awesome!!
Yes, that was a beautiful weekend for sure!
❤❤
Glad you <3 it!
It would be a damn shame to shave off that moustache.
Well, that’s a pretty clear opinion!
A beauty of a day and a very unique look...not many people are able to pull that off! Keep it and those who can't...weep! LOL Sure are some amazing views!!
I've been told it needs either mutton chops or a beard of some kind. Think I may go with a goatee and shoot for a Three Musketeers look.
One of my favorite mountain, Not to surprised with the how much snow is still up there…. I hiked the Glencliff trial yrs ago now I mostly hike the Gorge Brook Trail. Glad to see you back on trail…god bless
We did gorge Brooke over the winter, and that was fun until we popped out a tree line and got blasted by the wind. I’ve also done the carriage road. Hoping to get Beaverbrook knocked out, but only when it’s not gonna be icy.
It's been years since I've last been on Monte Rosa. Never got to the summit, tho. Kudos!
It’s not a huge climb, but it did definitely have a spectacular view
Howdy from my chair back in Germany. How are your legs after climbing the summit? Treat yourself to a rest and end enjoy the view
Not too bad actually. It's only a 4.75 mile hike including the side hike to Monte Rosa.
@@hindsfeetonhighplaces Neat, that is doable. The last place I was hiking at was in France in the Vosges mountains. Mountain places are nice. Serene
Like where is that and why is it important 😞
Monte Rosa is a sub peak of Mount Monadnock in southern New Hampshire. And it is important because it was the first time I made the side trek to summit it.
I've been to Mount Washington from visiting Vermont, and drove over for the day. You have good legs I'd say.
I just donated
Awesome! I was unable to do that hike last year due to issues with my wife's health. I'm planning on trying again this year.
Awesome dude🎉❤
Thank you sir!
WOW THAT IS GORGEOUS
It was a spectacular day for sure. The wind was BRUTAL though.
That looks fun
It didn't shave off as much time as I thought but it WAS fun. Had to hit the breaks to avoid playing "hiker bowling" a few times!
It looks freezing
It was definitely below 32F so it was "freezing". But I love winter hiking and with the right gear you can keep the cold at bay.
Gorgeous view also nice mustache
Thank you!
Your mustache is majestic
Thank you!
So, so sorry to hear. My thoughts and prayers are with you. May the healing hands of Jesus see you through these times.
Thank you very much. My faith that tells me this is not forever, but only for a time is a great comfort right now.
So sorry for your loss. I hope you find comfort and healing in nature.
Thank you sir. Yesterday was her memorial service and it was tough. But as my personal scripture says "God is my strength. It give me feet like the hind and lifts me onto my high places". It is on the high places in this world that find God and comfort.
Amazing to see these areas being hiked and explored! Not sure if I could do such things now, so great to catch the experience and views that others enjoy!! Awesome!!
While it was a long hike, it was not a particularly technical challenging hike. The initial up on the cog trail was relentless and unforgiving, but from there it was pretty easy. I don't want to say "you could do it" because I don't know what challenges you face, but as Aislinn would have said on her channel, "Chase your Dreams, Challenge your limits, and choose Joy."
Wow that view 😮
You don't get many days on Washington that look that nice, let alone WINTER days for sure!
Beautiful day! I hope your wife makes a bounce back and things turn for the better 🙏
Thank you, my friend for the kind wishes. Unfortunately that is not the way that things worked out. Last Sunday she passed away and went to be with Jesus.
I am so sorry to hear that😢At least she's no longer in any pain. I hope you can find peace in knowing she's in a better place. Take care my friend 🙏 @@hindsfeetonhighplaces
One beauty of a day!! Thoughts and prayers are with you. One foot in front of the other...one step at a time. God bless!
Thank you for your prayers, they are greatly appreciated.
I wish your wife the best. Must be very stressful.
Thank you Seth. Unfortunately, the timing of this video drop was not the best. She passed away last Sunday.
@@hindsfeetonhighplaces oh no, I'm so sorry to hear. My deepest condolences.
Pulk seemed like more trouble than it was worth.
You are right. Shug uses them all the time, but Shug lives in Minnesota, not the whites. I thought it would be easy because the trail is an easy one up to the shelter.
@@hindsfeetonhighplaces live and learn!
Nice overnight 👍 That looks like alot of work toting that sled.
I got the idea watching Shug. Seems like it is a lot easier when you are in the flat lands of Minnesota than in the Whites, even up an easy trail!
You've done alright this winter after all. Cabot is a haul just to get to.
Having good company helps!
Don't know if I'd manage the trekking, but that sledding...I'd be right in to that for sure!! LOL
Yeah, I get it. But you can’t have one without the other!
That’s a beautiful area! Looks like some nice walking with great views.
Always love seeing the Presis. While I prefer to seem them from a higher altitude, for this day, it was a great walk in the woods for sure!
Thanks for this hike, & post David- I think I found a kindred spirit; someone that loves the outdoors and subtle sounds of nature. We’ll have to do something more challenging next time!
Glad you enjoyed it. It was a great hike, and great weather too. And if you want to do something more challenging, you know I’m game.
Always love a rail trail for sure...nice and level walking!!
I love doing rail trails with my wife in the summer. She rides her mobility scooter and I ride a bike.
Great video. You did it in relatively beautiful (even though cold and windy) weather. I cannot begin to imagine what it was like for Chris Roma (RIP) in a snow storm late at night a few weeks ago. I plan on coming up this weekend to do Willey/Tom/Field/Willey for what will be only my second solo winter hike. Based on everything I have read and watched (including your video) I will definitely do Sunday (35 degrees) rather than Saturday (5 degrees). Thanks for the additional warning!
Yeah, you gotta respect the mountain that’s for sure. Though in someways, the colder weathers are better, because the snow pack is more solid. When it gets above freezing, the snow is more likely to give away if you step off the main trail.
Congrats nice day! I’ve only been up there twice in summer and even in summer it was sporty weather. You were spot on with your comments at the end. Glad it ended safely 🙏
I think many of the rescues from the mountains come from people taking them for granted and either over estimating their capabilities or underestimating the mountain. Respect the mountain and always remember it will be there tomorrow.
Yo bro fantastic go of it. Great visuals, snow crusted trees, low clouds and sunshine above. Epic video footage. Challenging cold and wind. Definitely something to be happy about. 😊
Thank you! It was a good but hard day for sure.
Could be a barn owl.
I don’t think so, from my quick research of Barnell sounds more screechy than howling
Wow, that was absolutely incredible!!
It was an incredible day, with some incredible views. But it had me a little nervous from time to time.
I took the glass inner out of my thermos flask and wrapped reflectix around it shiny side in and also put some on the bottom. Then I popped the plastic top of the lid and stuffed it with batting with a little circle of reflectix on the bottom of the lid/plug closest to the water. Put the little plastic circle back on and superglued it in place. Keeps water close to boiling for 12 hours. Thats what you should be doing.
That would be a great idea for car camping, but I don't think hiking with a glass container is a great idea. Honestly the vacuum insulated water bottles are heavier than I would like, but in the winter you have to do something. I've done the refletix sleeve on just the Nalgene and it works somewhat. But thanks for the idea, I may just do that with one sometime in the future for shorter hikes in extreme cold.
@@hindsfeetonhighplaces The glass inner is the inner part of the thermos flask. It's made of the same kind of glass as Christmas tree decorations but more durable. With some reflectix wrapped around it and maybe with a bit of extra batting stuffed where there is room for batting and provided you are reasonably careful your flask should be OK. Did you read the book 'Hind's Feet On High Places'? Lovely book.
Great adventure - top notch conditions up high.
Wait until my next videos drop on Friday!
Now that was quite the adventure!! I remember one time in the mountains of BC hiking in the snow and looking at all the tiny little trees and realizing that these were all tall trees that were covered up to their tippy tops in snow!! lol
Yea I have hike in similar conditions too. Gotta watch out for the Spruce Traps!
Nice experiment!
Thank you!
That was a great experiement!
Thank you. I used the good thermos in the reflect IX for today’s hike. It was boiling when I left the house, we did an 8 mile hike with a 3 mile Ridgeline. The temperature at the Ridgeline was 9° and the anticipated wind was 20 miles an hour. Pretty sure it was significantly higher than 20 miles an hour.when we got to the car, the water was still hot enough to make tea
@@hindsfeetonhighplaces I'd certainly say that was a great success then!
Nice Experiment
Thank you sir! Plan on using this for today's hike. Temps down in the teens with negative wind chills. But should be some spectacular views.
