Tractor bucket modify to skid steer quick attach
PT2 video finishing up modifying my tractor bucket to have a skid steer quick attach plate. PT1 video on my channel shows how I converted my tractor loader from a 2 pin style, to the universal skid steer adapter.
This bucket modification along with the PT1 video of modifying the loader is save me so much time and headache. what used to be a 30-45min implement change now takes 10seconds

I'm this video I use my Lincoln Electric Eagle 10000 plus welder and my Lincoln Electric Tomahawk 375 Air plasma cutter to fabricate a universal skid steer quick attach for my Mahindra tractor 4110. this is something I've been wanting to build for a long time, and I finally got around to it. I decided to make a video on it, since I've seen 1 or 2 others, I filmed 95% of the build.

    First time viewer. Should work great. Just for aesthetics and safety I would have cut off those large square corners and made it more rounded and possibly sloping. You are going to think of that the first time you are bending over or climbing over and bang a knee, elbow or your head on it.

    i ran a vantage 300 when i was rig welding and it was fantastic, but when i retired i sold it. some time later i picked up a ranger 250 gxt and it's been nearly flawless. i liked the capacity for a suitcase mig(very handy) and it can take the high frequency attachments for ac tig . same engine as the eagle. and almost as basic. basic is better. simpler to maintain. ask anyone who ever ran an sa-200. it's the man ,not the machine. if money is tight,a good place to get a "first welder" is from an equipment rental service, BUT ,and this is important, make sure they do the routine service on their equipment. oil,oil filter,fuel filter,air filter on the schedule. my first was the vantage 300. i got it from united rentals. it was five years old and had about 3200 hours on it. kubota diesel engine. i was thinking of rig welding but just didn't have the $$$ to pick up a new $13,000 welder at the time. but i was on a job site and asked the united rentals tech when he was servicing the equipment we were using. and they were spot on with the service every 100 hours. the company claims depreciation on the equipment for taxes for five years. then they can't any longer. so they are happy to sell them and get new stock. i think i paid $4700 for it and it was on a trailer that i couldn't use so i swapped the trailer for 200 foot of 00 size welding lead. NOW , there are some equipment companies that never service their machines and i saw several of those over the years. suncoast is one. their machines are HORRIBLY ABUSED AND NEGLECTED . united even gave me the maintenance records on file for that machine. and they let me weld with it before i bought it. i ran it through it's range on both tig and stick. i don't know if any of them rent smaller welders. probably not. but it's much less of a crap shoot than facebook market place or craigslist because you never know how that machine was treated. incidentially, that's a banging trailer , perfect size. i kept my leads for a while looped like yours but being in south texas (if it ain't nailed down,they'll steal it)i had to run a ratchet strap around them super tight then lock them down with chain and lock before loosening the ratchet strap so they had to cut them to steal them. this was before i made my reels.

    Louie, how long have you been running your independent welding business? I have been doing something else my whole life and want to get into doing independent welding. I was run over on my 1957 Harley Panhead almost 2 years ago now and I am almost recovered . I still have 50 pounds to lose and I am walking much better. No more physical therapy. I have a Ranger XLT with the V-6 and 4x4. I swapped the bed out for a Flatbed that looks great!! I am going to mount my MIller welder on the back along with a 50 gallon gas air compressor that I just converted from electric. I have a manual hydraulic crane that can handle 2000 pounds but I intend on mounting a 5,000 pound crane as soon as I can find one along with outriggers. I also want to mount a drill press and a large vise along with a 2.5 foot welding deck off the back bumper. Any ideas or suggestions to make my endeavor easier would be appreciated my friend. Are you in Pennsylvania?

      Hi and thanks for watching. This is a side hustle for me. I work full time as a Safety professional for a major automotive manufacturing company and I'm in San Antonio Tx area. At work I teach a lot safety trainings and my interest have always been working with my hands and tools, that's essentially why I started making videos. I'm not a certified welder or anything but I learned a lot growing up on a small farm and working on a 1200acre ranch all through my college years. My thoughts for my side hustle was to build a name through social media CZcams and Instagram, (free advertising) and do side jobs on weekends and evenings. I get several calls a month, but rarely turns in to a paying job. Well, they could be paying jobs but I don't always have the right tools,I get calls for sheet metal welding on car panels, exhaust pipe for cars, or aluminum I can't and won't do those. I feel like any corner muffler shop could do that, but I don't have a lift. My focus is try and do fence or gate entrance welding, tractor implements, or trailer repairs. I also post pictures of my jobs and work on Craigslist and OfferUp. I hate Facebook and refuse to use it, but if I had one Id post there too. My day job funds my tool purchases and my tools let me do my own projects and side job here and there to get some extra beer money and keep me moving.

    Do you keep your 7018 rods in a rod oven? I recently bought a used small 10 lb. oven on ebay and been having fun with 7018 rods on my home built implements. I am modifying them to work with the harbor freight three point quick hitch.

    • @louieaparicio2613
      @louieaparicio2613 Před 2 lety

      Short answer is no, I don't. I don't weld enough to be able to tell a difference or any benefit from it. I keep them dry and in a sealed tube, in a closed tool box on my welding trailer. They still get discolored with time and moisture but other than that, nothing special, and still works well for what I do. I studied (watched CZcams) on the channel Weld.com. The guy on there Bob Moffat had a video of him testing that theory, and showed welding with a 7018 that was completely soaked in water, he welded with it no problem. Its way more important to get the settings right, surface prep, fit, and do a test weld first. Ever since I saw him weld with that rod soaking wet I don't worry about it anymore. I have heard that its beneficial to have a rod oven on 7018 low hydrogen rods, but I couldn't explain why. And hey, no judgement on a harbor freight 3 point hitch, stuff is too damn expensive these days, almost all my tools I bought used. Being able to modify/repair and survive is a dying skill. I don't know anyone who could afford buying new tractor implements. Just stay safe and keep all your fingers and toes.

      Thanks. I havent painted it yet, and was thinking I would modify those corners before I do. I was leaning towards octogon style corners or taper it like a tear drop, but it has to be repeatable. Doesn't hurt to round em off now though, so good call 👍. I'm actually a safety consultant by trade, I just hadn't decided on those corners yet. Thanks for watching and commenting. 🤙

    My impression is that you will weld this device to the bucket? If so, will you repeat the process w/your pallet forks currently on the tractor? Also, concerning the forks, are they something you fabricated, or are they factory (Mahirdra) implement? if the latter, could you please tell me the model, or part number/year(if necessary) for them? Lastly, it appears to me you can move the forks closer, or spread them further apart, plz is this correct? Thx from Round Valley AZ.

      Hello sorry for delay. 1. This part mounts to the tractor, the bucket will get a universal adapter plate (like a skid steer or bobcat). 2. My loader and attachments are a brand called Kansas Machine Works (KMW). They all came with the tractor back in 2000. Model of loader is ML112. Not sure about bucket and forks. But it's an outdated design, universal skid steer style is the standard now. 3. The forks are adjustable, mid point to far right and same for left. All manual by hand. Hope that helps.

    • @jasons7202
      @jasons7202 Před 2 lety

      You don't weld the plate to the loader bucket, unless you need something simple, and want to lose the load capacity of what the plate weighs. You are essentially welding a flat steel plate, to another flat steel plate. All you need is the top and bottom angled plates, welded to the back of your bucket, to engage the quick attach.
