I was in the Royal Party at Drury Lane to see her in '71 I think. Never to be forgotten, to see one of her last UK performances but the unexpected honour of being invited to join the gracious Princess Alexandra and her husband for the evening. Danny's club in Hanover Sq. after, where more Royals were enjoying their evening until the wee hours!! What a lucky 21 year old I was!!!

She refused to leave after the war ended to continue entertaining the allies that had to stay during the reconstruction period after the war. She started a charity to help Jewish refugees and was the number one seller of American War bonds. She always said her service during ww2 was her greatest achievement. A German celebrity who became American and despised the nazis. Talent aside, she was a real, compassionate human who served humanity
