CORN PLANTING STRUGGLES & DRAINAGE TRIUMPHS
Corn planting in Iowa 2024 finally kicks off, with a struggle. We have issues with the corn planter from the get go. Colt builds us an essential tool for planting and I walk a field looking at the importance of drainage work on the farm.

Congrats, Molly!!!
Congrats Molly on the acceptance in the masters program!
It's free .99 😂 that's great.
The tile that isn't working, do you think thats due to poor grade control or did they put the pipe too deep to effectively pull water out of southern Iowa clay soils? We have some put in by a reputable contractor about 30 years ago that never helped as much as it should have, we've dug it up and found it was 60" deep and that doesn't work south of Hwy 34. We plowed some tile in over the top of it at 30" deep and it made a huge difference.
Both are very possible. I like to install around the 30” mark. You get into the clay and it does you no good.
I ENJOYED WATCHING THE VIDEO BEN ❤
The Henbit is also said to be a sign of high nitrogen content in the soil that year.
Didn’t know that thanks!
Well Ben you get forty chances to get it right in farming, so you still have 30 more tries. I am on my forty seventh try this year. We’ve seen the benefits of pattern tiling just like you, seems to take three years for the tile to get to its maximum potential. Congratulations Molly!
I would agree that it takes about 3 years to get all the water flowing to the pipes. Happy 47th
Congratulations 🎊🎉🎈 to your wife going to be some long hours for you . 😊
Thanks 👍
👍👍❤🌾🌱
Ben there seems to be some audio that i can't hear on this video and a few previous ones. Is it the camera or just u edit it out for utube purposes. Thanks and keep on planting
It has to be an upload issue to YT - there is nothing wrong in the edit. I’ll have to watch them on YT before releasing them next time and not just my editing software- thanks for the heads up!
What is Molly Mastering in , how to put up with You in planting season ? LOL Congratulations Molly !
lol - Organizational Management
@@iowANFarmer Fits right in !
Congratulations Molly !!!
Your audio cuts in and out often.
Something happened with the upload unfortunately.
Depending on the camera angle at times it was very easy to see the pattern tile. Amazing how much of a difference it makes
Big time this year!
The bag sticker, lol back in the late sixties I speared the bags for dad as he dumped 80lb bags of fertilizer in the back of the International 100 press drills, I was 8-9 years old.. P.S 1/2 steel rod is all you need it will last decades...
This one should last generations!
I’m assuming that that editing of some of the commentary is to protect the previous contractor that improperly installed the tile in that area of the field
No, it was a problem with the upload to YT. Audio is perfectly fine in the edit.
Sorry about the audio issues- that must have happened during the YT upload- it’s perfectly fine in the edit.
I'm glad to see you post a new video. Regardless of the sound quality, it was easy to understand and I enjoyed watching. Tell your brother in law that we all age and we can't stop the calendar so the "old man" he hacked the idea from will inevitably be him, sooner than he expects. I'm saying this in jest but there's a grain of truth in it. I never thought of Wayne as an old man but as a guy who was determined to help a younger guy get his start. Of course, I think Bandit was his favorite, lol.
Not sure how the sound ended up this way. Must be a problem with the upload.
👍👍❤🌾🌱
Congratulation Molly!!!
Nice little invention 👍🍻 BTW the sound goes in and out, must be the red shirt 😂
Something to do with the upload it seems.
I’ve been so worried about you with this tornado season being so crazy. And yes, I can see the tile lines in the diagonal. The corn looks taller & thicker on those lines. Having your own plow, doing the work yourself & liking to do it works out for you all around. You’re so good at it, that’s a fallback skill if you ever needed to bring in extra income too. Another job, not that full time farming & a pumpkin patch business isn’t enough work for ya.😂 I’m incredibly proud of you 2! I graduated with my MS in ‘93. My son just finished his freshman year, 1 YEAR cost as much as my Master’s. I REALLY tried to talk him into a skilled trade. Nope.
It’s going to be expensive! But she’s kicking butt.
Can you please fix your mic
Something happened with the upload. The audio is fine in the edit.
We finally got done it was a struggle this spring planted in between rains im in south central Illinois just south of us hardly nothing has been planted hope it goes good for you take care be safe
We just finished last Thursday.
Hopefully you will get some better weather and the corn will pull out of the wet conditions. PS you need to figure out your audio issues!
Not sure how that happened. It’s just fine in the edit.
Why to go Molly!!!
Planting has so many feelings. The joy of getting started. The stress of everything not working the way it should. The hope the crop does well. The hope you make some money this year. And the best feeling of all, getting out in the field and putting seed in the ground!!! Best wishes to all farmers this crop year!!
Very well put 👍👍🍻
I have noticed the sound coming and going in the last couple videos of yours
Has it happened in the last few videos as well? It has to be with the upload to YT
@@iowANFarmerYes your last few videos or so it’s been happening
Please …shorten your videos.
Your video length is just fine. No need to shorten.
The sound is in and out. Can't hear you all the time. Good luck on this season
That must have been in the upload - no sound issues in the edit. Sorry.
Hello!
Hi im the first one
Nice! 👍
Excellent presentatation...Inspiring...and thanks...
You are most welcome!
Lol by far the funnest short I have seen in a while but tomorrow I am running a 50g what am I to do???
You don’t know crap about using a chainsaw. What a cluster.
It’s only 117 Pal
That AI planter/Fertilizer for custom AG work. Is not ready for prime time. It looks like a small business that got funding and isn’t there yet. For it be all electric doesn’t it defeat the purpose to have a generator on the bar😂
I ENJOYED WATCHING THE VIDEO BEN 😊
Too bad about the tracking coming off. Always enjoy watching you removing trees and improving there farm.
Who going to tell him
Great job running the excavator Ben
Great job guys
Great video Ben
Why are you taking the trees out?
Why are you taking the trees out?
They interfere with the farm machinery and they shade out the crops and rob the moisture and nutrients.
Why does it seem machinery breaks down when Colt is operator...
Killingstumps is a pain without 24-d but we found going deep 6” with chain saw vertical and fill with roundup kills cheaply
🙈
You can't beat a forestry mulcher for a job like that, nothing too big nothing too small, and nothing to haul
You could have taken the root ball and everything with that excavator. Why didn’t you do that?
He said early in the video that removing the root ball would damage the terraces and cause more work having to fix them. By cutting and spraying the integrity of the terrace is not affected.
