Awww I remember being here at this exact moment , only 3 years old to get stung by a wasp 😅but it was legendary

Remember spending my childhood coming from Greenock spending my summer holidays at my granny's house on Broadway in Belfast during 70s-80s (yes holidays in a war zone !!) and remember getting the boat train late at night in Larne on these trains with nearly every window smashed , mental.

Really enjoying watching your videos Nick. This one is of particular interest to me as I used to regularly ride on the Hilton Valley Railway as a kid In the 60’s and 70’s. Great to see the old HVR rolling stock still in its original livery here in 1989.

Class 80 on bray greystones route

This was where my love of steam started. I still have memories of being fascinated by these glorious machines. I was probably there that day as a 5 year old with my dad. Later on we'd go to the Midlands Railway Centre to get my steam fix.

Marvelous . Thought it was already singled in 1989. 😮. Always used to look at the disused platforms. And thought how spooky they were in the 90's. A truly wonderful surviving railway. Helped me become an addict! 😅.

Many thanks indeed for recording these rare scenes. For one year only, 1988/89, the 16.00 from Belfast Central was extended to Dun Laoghaire to connect with the evening sailing to Holyhead. Highly favoured by bashers, as one of the few trains to call at Dun Laoghaire that was loco hauled.

1989 the year we moved to Alvechurch - many fond memories of the children laughing as they bounced along.

Superb video of the infamous five-point turn of the Limerick Rosslare train, now sadly no more. Propelling over a level crossing. Shunting needing the cooperation of North and South signalboxes, not to mention blocking the Dublin Cork mainline in both directions.

Remember when you could slide the windows down and stick your head out at 8:41. Now, the windows don't open and we're subjected to endless safety announcements. 😕 P.S. Every time I pass the York Street workshops I see a couple of those big blue locos at 9:20. Not sure if they're being renovated or what.

Brilliant! I went to that - I was 14 at the time. I remember it being a very good day out - there were loads of interesting exhibits, quite a lot of stuff I'd never seen before. Class 321 shuttle service from Liverpool Street too, my first trip on one!

Fantastic attraction at the time,brought the kids on it once,great little trip with a knowledgeable guide,turf cutting was great fun.not sure what happened to it,elfnsafty may have killed it.sad.

Gotta love the sight and sound of a Class 150 Sprinter in Cardiff and the valleys, and soon on the Maesteg Branch, when the line re-opens in 1992. Now, in 2024, we still see Sprinters on the Valley Lines

Those Mark 1 coaches must have been some of the last hauled stock on BR1 bogies in main line traffic.
