On this channel I show and wonder about my finds from my metal detecting trips. I will also tell you what information I have found about them. In the video, I also give a bit of a description of the searching site, and possibly some history and stories about the area.
Most of my metal detecting trips are in the south-west of Finland, around Turku, but sometimes a little further away. Artifacts from as far back as the Bronze Age can be found here, although objects from that age are very rare. The Iron Age artefacts are already quite diverse and common in this region. But my main interest is in the objects from the 1600-1800s that people used, such as coins, buttons, buckles, etc.

Meille kerrottiin, että siellä oli ollut kauan sitten talo, jossa oli asunut maanviljelijä perheineen. Tätä taloa ei enää ole olemassa mutta sammaleen peittämä kivijalka on vielä talon paikalla näkyvissä. Mitä sieltä löytyi metallinetsimillä?

We found the ruins of an ancient stone temple

This time we went camping and hiking, with metal detectors of course. The metal detecting was rather limited but we did find two interesting sites in the terrain, one looking like the ruins of a temple and the other very much like a Viking warrior's mound.
We found a 1500-year-old axe with a metal detector!

Found a hand mirror with a metal detector on an old house site

This time, metal detecting was tried on an old house site. The house site and its surroundings were already well afforested but the metal detecting was still very successful and the metal detectors gave nice signals. It is easier to dig in the woods in spring anyway. A fine old hand mirror was found in one of the holes. Let's take a closer look at it in the video and also at other finds there. ...
Metal detecting in a frozen valley - Possible Viking Age find

The first metal detecting trip of the spring to an old, afforested field in the valley and the surrounding forest. Metal detecting was still hampered by the icy ground in some places, but we managed to dig up some finds. One fairly certain Viking Age artefact was found with a metal detector and more on that in the video. Other nice finds were also found, we'll have a look at those too. Chapters...

Koko pitkä vaatetus ja hyttysverkkohuppu päähän, niin pärjää. Kyllä tuo puukonterä on yli 200 vuotta vanha. Hyvä löytö. Näkyykö tuo polku missään vanhoissa kartoissa?
Vanhoissa maastokartoissa ja ilmakuvissa ainakin näkyy polku sotien aikaan, mutta eiköhän se siinä ole ollut pitkään. Juu, tosiaan oikealla vaatetuksella pärjää pitkälle. Itse tein virhearvioinnin siinä oletuksessa, ettei vielä tuohon aikaan olisi hyttysiä kiusaksi asti, varsinkaan täällä Lounais-Suomessa.
Marjaretkilläni olen tehnyt päätöksen etten anna hyttysien määrittää tekemisiäni. Olen antanut hyttysien tehdä tehtävänsä ja saanut olla sen jälkeen rauhassa.
Hyvä asenne ja näin se kuuluisikin tehdä. Luonnossa liikkuessa hyttyset kuuluu siihen mukaan ja ne pitää tietysti hyväksyä.

Cool find! I hafto say i share your hope about the axe. I have found some really nice (in my view) iron and viking age finds put that the museums have alot of and i guess my finds now lays in a drawr or in a box somewere in the museums storing facilitets. In the dark just like dark i recently slaves them from.
The same fate befalls many artefacts found here in Finland. The National Board of Antiquities has too few resources to research metal detectorists' finds, so they can remain in boxes for years before they are researched.
