Japanese pop in the 90s was peak.

When I watched the English dub of this many years ago (that was all that was available back then), I used to think "this is really good music for a dub". I literally just re-watched it in the original Japanese, mostly to see how the songs would be and imagine my surprise they were the same!

I love the fact that there's bass slapping involved! That's literally one of the best parts of '80s songs alongside the synthesizers!

Hi everyone reading this and listening to this potential ‘greatest song in the world ever’. Hehe. It’s so good! But it makes me really sad deep down. I’m nearing 40 now. I first heard this/watched Tank Police on DVD and still have it somewhere. I always wanted to make games and from ages 7-16 I made freeware PC games. My dad had a good job so we had a nice house, nice computers. My parents bought a plot of land just shy of an acre. We moved into my grandparents tiny house whilst ours was built. I got to spend random nights sleeping in the skeletal house with my pops for fun (“are we going to the big house tonight dad?” I’d ask aged 6, 7.) watching Home Improvement, Red Dwarf, Have I got News For You. I spent that time out at the big house with just a sketchbook and pencils designing out/drawing games that I wanted to play. My dad encouraged me by buying Klik n Play on the PC and AMOS on the Amiga. My neighbour (coincidentally) at the time were the parent of the guy who made Darksiders (the game, if there’s anything else with that name I dunno about it :) ). I finished school aged 16 not knowing where to go next or what to do. I couldn’t make money off my games. I had no college or work lined up. My dad pushed me into, weeks after courses had begun, a random college in the neighbouring county. I rolled up late with just my portfolio to hand and the tutors snatched me up with an unconditional offer. I knew nobody there. A month earlier during the summer I had a dream I ran around a fountain beside a giant building chasing and being chased by a woman with, I won’t go into detail there but a bunch of identifying features! Mega strangely enough the woman I dreamt about was on this course. We both kept glancing at one another over and over. A charge built up atop love at first sight. 2 months later we were dating. Everyone on the course knew we’d date we just had that magnetism thing going on. Our friend Allen gave us a DVD from some Playstation 2 magazine because my gf was big into anime (I just liked everything pretty much lol). It had Tank Police on it - we only watched it once but it was unforgettable! That was 22 years ago. We’ve been together ever since with a relationship full of cool things like our first kiss being barefoot in a spring-time meadow at sunset, neither of us had any other partners before (or during lol). Depression hit me pretty hard though. The magic that was my younger years… I had a hiccup making a game, getting stuck on it and wasn’t able to finish it and feel I lost the magic. I only live now because of the grace of my family - and my partners parents are also very helpful, understanding, and her dads a legit morris dancer. I honestly don’t know how to fix myself. It crushes me. My dads not doing too well (had cancer at one point) and recently said he thought I’d go further than this (ME TOO. I want to get back on Bruce Waynes horse or bike or whatever it was). I wish I could just finish a project, or for one of my non-game things to work. I still live in that house we built, same bedroom. One sibling moved out and I’m a really neat uncle at least. Life is just so strange, in a good and bad way, to me. One thing though is I did get a game published which was a lifelong dream, and with that I got to visit E3, EGX, Gamescom and meet my actual heroes (I was shaking a guys hand in LA being introduced by my publisher. His name was massive from my childhood but I never knew his face! And I’m shaking the guys hand when I hear his name to which I actually did a little shout and shock! I even got to meet another heroes mistress! Yes! People actually do stuff like that it’s not just in films and TV!) And then this song just punches so devastatingly. As Max Payne would say, or any of the school essays I wrote where myself and my best buddy Tom would rewrite chunks of Max Payne as we were so enamoured by it aged 15.

I have been thinking of this image inside of my head today. Since Akira Toriyama died, I wish that someone could do some super cute, yet super sad, chibi art of the two of them in a series of comic strip style panels. The first one is being at a Shinto funeral shrine and, at first, you do not know who it is, but you see two familiar faces in funeral garb, Goku in a three piece black and white suit, and Usagi being in a black dress and her red odango and little stubby chibi heels on her little chibi legs. The two of them are looking at each other all sad. The second little panel has a little chibi hand from Usagi on Goku's shoulder, and she says, "I know...he loved you like you were his son, and you loved him like he was your father. My mother loves me the same way, too, Goku". The third panel has a cute little closeup chibi face of Usagi continuing to talk to Goku, saying, "I know, that things are tough for you right now. We both fight against evil, and that's what we do in our lives. We both love role playing games, and you may be the tank, and I may be the mage, but, despite the unique ways that we fight against evil, we still stand against it every day. Things may be tough, but we're warriors, and I honestly don't care what anyone says, but true warriors fight, not against emotions, but for them, without being blinded by them, or necessarily wrongly guided by them, and there are also some of them that are honestly worth fighting for, so we also fight for those that we love, and that's what unites us, and that's also why we're best friends". The picture is a pained smile from Usagi. The fourth panel is one where Usagi is breaking with little chibi tear waterfalls on her face, and she says to Goku, "I want to say that I'm always here for you and that I'm also glad that we're best friends, Goku". The fifth picture has Goku, also with little tear waterfalls on his face, and he says, "Thanks, Usagi. I'm glad that we're best friends". The sixth panel has them having gushing chibi tear waterfalls from the both of them, as they are sitting on the ground, and you can see a little picture of Akira Toriyama on the shrine, and the two of them are on the ground, on their knees, hugging and having tear waterfalls gushing from their eyes, and having a "Waaaaah"! being spoken by the both of them as their little chibi mouths are open in sad ways. The seventh panel says, in plain text, "Good friends learn to emphasize and sympathize with you. Best friends will cry with you when you're crying. Sometimes, the toughest opponents are not on the battlefield, but within ourselves, as well as with adversity, circumstances, and loss". The eighth panel is also plain text, but it says, "When a warrior cries, it's not because they're weak, but because they cry to prove their strength, and because they have things to love for, things to live for, and things to fight for in their lives". The ninth panel says, "Rest in peace, Toriyama-senpai. You are the face of bishounen anime and manga, and you are also a legend in the video game community. You will be, and are, loved, and missed, by everyone". The tenth, and last, panel, simply says, "Akira Toriyama 1955-2024". Is that a good idea for a tribute comic? I wish that I was good with art, but I can't get this series of images, as well as words, out of my head.

Once I knew a girl who loved rains... I called rain for her in days then the sky was all blue, I gathered clouds above her and the rain fell down for her... I loved her... It was a magical feeling like I knew her forever, we never actually met and never will be apart... Alas, she refused me... And said to me "don't be ridiculous, you cannot call snow in the middle of summer! I don't want to see you anymore!"... Tears were running from my eyes as I went home... Layer that day there was a furious storm with piles of hail falling from the sky. I then wrote my last SMS to her: "I am sorry, snow was too wet and stuck together into hail, yet, here you are." This song for me is the illustrations of that days in my life, back then I listened to it many times, but even now I regularly remember it. A wonderful melody.

Just saw this anime for the first time about a week ago. I'm casually almost 40 years late in discovering Project A-ko.... Follow Your Dreams and Dance Away capture that iconic 80s pop energy perfectly. A great soundtrack for a great anime.

sounds like Echo and the Bunnymen 'Dancing Horses'. Just slightly sped up. The first rif is almost identical.

The vocalist really does alot for this movie. Her singing creates the atmosphere more than people give credit for. Its one of the best ever in my opinion.
