This is an example of a single source diverging to the point of having noticeably different properties and interactions. While the argument you are supposed to be responding to is a single result maintaining properties of both/all sources. I also don't know that you are representing the opposing opinion's thoughts correctly. I think their thinking is more akin to, "if Person A controls water and Person B controls dirt...either person should be able to control water." And this just comes down to a case by case. The specifics of the fictional universes and/or the specifics of the "verse battle" universe.

Seriously i see verse Equalization as the lazy power scalers tool. Its why i hate dragonball in powerscaling in general. Its got the most braindead random power system out there so under verse Equalization the most common defense is "goku can just power through that" because according to his verses power system he can just power his way through shit like time stop. Its the dumbest shit.

The only verse equalization that I care about is when people bring up natural shit in a different verse that cant normally be circumvented unless you're specifically from said verse. For instance, you bring up a true shinigami like rukia, or a stand users stand and be like: no one from one piece/fairy tail/HxH can beat them because they cant actually interact with them(shinigami/stand) under normal circumstances, which is true, but then why even bring up the versus opportunity if youre going to fall back on something like that? If we were to put it in gaming terms, these stands and shinigami would have a natural special defense that is completely separate from their actual defensive abilities, hence, defense piercing abilities would work on their actual defense, but not the "special defense" that stops you from actually interacting with them. Like, a spirit or ghost has spiritual intangibility, which you'd need to work around, and then once you get past that, you deal with their actual ability to take a hit. It's like, why even put them together like this if youre gonna say something like Ainz from overlord is above death(due to his high level), so he cant actually be defeated type shit. It's so disingenuous.

Whenever i do my own cross verse storys in my head magic energy is the one i personally find i deal with most, which also is likely the easiest to use the equalization argument with, since, unless it's specifically states you need outside resources or that "only *specific terms here* can use that kind of magic" you can likely find find a Example of one magic spell being used in another series, IE: i don't think anyone is gonna argue the basic fireball from any verse can't replicated in any other verse that uses magic unless specific stated. In other words, if It CAN be applied without it being made weird i do so, but only with that specific source of power, im not about to let goku shoot a lightning bolt just because Nen and Ki can be argued to be similar enough to each other due to how their system differs.

I get why verse equalization is a thing. It’s to make vs battle debates fun. Like if we’re just taking the Big 3 into account, with no verse equalization, Bleach stomps Naruto and One Piece due to literally everyone and their mother having literal soul based spiritual abilities in Bleach while in Naruto and One Piece, spiritual abilities refer to spirit as in fighting spirit, willpower, mental fortitude etc, with Soul based spiritual abilities like the Reaper Death Seal, Edo Tensei, Big Mom, Law, and Brook’s abilities for example being incredibly broken hax that are special and not able to be dealt with with chakra or Haki normally, despite them being ‘spiritual’. Like, an average Shinigami swinging their zanpakuto would do the same hax damage as Reaper Death Seal, and Bleach characters would be nigh invulnerable similar to Edo Tensei, thought without even needing a body to tether them down or be sealed away. Extremely powerful Haki users can’t seem to damage Big Mom’s homies, but Brook and Law with soul based abilities can. But a Shinigami’s zanpakuto would have the same effect, assuming they have the stats to damage them

Equalize is weird sometimes

So small thing when you mentioned Jugo and Suigetsu 26:10 you mentioned sage mode has the properties of negating the immunity to Chakra based ninjutsu granted by six paths chakra. Suigetsu's water transformation replicates the properties of water not actually give him six paths chakra so he would resist if not be immune to most physical attacks, being fluid and having perfect control over his body's shape while in liquid form. If I remember correctly he was vulnerable to lightning ninjutsu so I assume similar to water he can also freeze or even evaporate if fire or ice style ninjutsu is used on him in his liquid form. Similarly devil fruit logia can be effected the same way. Now I can't deny that Chakra based elements, natural elements and senjutsu based elements don't operate exactly the same but they are similar. For example all versions of fire can still burn and all versions of water can still drown. I don't understand how curtain ninjutsu operate like ninjutsu that use naturally found elements in the world like most earth style and water style ninjutsu or Kirin a lightning ninjutsu that uses actual lightning but I assume it just imbues Chakra into elements found in the natural world. Sorry I know this is a long rant and that the main point was to prove that you can't just say "Oh Chakra can bypass logia" but in reality we don't know what will happen. Assuming logia reflect the element than you could cool down magma fruit users with water or ice, Luffy would be vulnerable to most wind jutsu with a cutting property as well as cleave or dismantle from JJK (yes I know Luffy is a paramecia or a mythical zoan if you're caught up with the anime and manga but still his body has rubber properties). Also whether or not Devil fruits are negated by water style is unknown. Like how much like water should the liquid be in order for the devil fruit to actually be negated. If Luffy was in a swimming pool of milk would he be unable to use his fruit. I assume devil fruits negate your ability to float and or swim so regardless of liquid your sinking like a rock but does the fruit recognise that this liquid is not water. I understand that the devil fruit is negated as long as your in knee high water regardless of if it's fresh water or salt water but how much water needs to be water before the devil fruit decides that it's not water anymore. Like if Luffy was in knee high soup would the devil fruit be negated. Also I think attacks to the soul should work on Logia. Sorry for the rant I got distracted and started rambling. I know most people will ignore this but if possible I'd like a few answers to these questions if they can spend at least 5 minutes of their time to read this.

Small nitpick - genjutsu does work against people without Chakra. Itachi did it once. Genjutsu actually functions by manipulating people's senses.

Personally I think "magic" and "non-magic" doesn't really make sense when something could operate identically to magic but simply be under a different name like chakra I think it makes more sense to split them into "mana based" and "spiritual energy" Using your first example it would make Chakra the same classification as other types of "magic" in the "mana" category (as it is essentially just ninja magic) Things like Haki, Devil Fruits, or Ki would be more like spiritual power more solidly in reality and based on will/pushing your own body, rather than an approximation of the thing like creation based magics or chakra An accurate use of equalization would be to treat the classes how they behave in a shared universe but that's not how most people use it

I've said this for years but the only simple solution to "equalization" is the "same plane" concept. The simple assumption before every battle that characters are on the same plane of existence and can therefore engage in combat. Thats it. Thats all you need. You don't literally need to make their power systems equal to do that because power systems are written and fleshed out over 100s of chapters and as a result are far too complicated and intricate to be made perfectly equal. Especially since most power systems are only made to function *in-universe*.

Another excellent point you could have used regarding what both verses gain from equalization is that if you're going to equalize verses like Naruto & One Piece then wouldn't that also mean that Blackbeard's darkness can negate all Jutsu if Jutsu = Devil Fruits? or that since all Jutsu now = Devil Fruits does that mean Jutsu can be negated by water? A lot of people don't think about those kinds of things because they're so focused on their agenda but there are SO many holes in this equalization concept that can be very easily abused.

The main problem is what we consider equalization and what's included or affected by it. It has to be respectful and neutraly discussed and established without being black or white or with bias And we shouldn't listen to the vocal minority and treat it seriously or like how it's done. Equalization and no Equalization both presents their own sets of problems they are literally two sides of the same coins i don't know how people don't realize that. Both sides will have some sense of bias (in some cases not all) regardless of how you disguise it. Just like how people say Equalization is so a Character can win the exact same thing can be said for no Equalization. But no says a thing due to listening to the Toxic Vocal minority who use it badly and not the people who actually at least try to use it correctly.

I have been saying this forever glad a sensible power scaler which took decades is actually stating fact. Lot of biased bleach and Naruto power scalers do this and use hyperbolic statements to upscale their verse to levels not actually seen in the anime or manga. They believe if Aizen says I am 6d he is literally 6d but, has moutain level or low city level ap feats. Now ichigo is multi now first uni now multi. Power scaling has gone down in recent years.
