In my opinion an artist needs to establish a team to help promote the artist and give honest feedback instead of telling them what they want to hear… too many artists are living in a bubble where A&Rs aren’t correcting them when they’re missing the mark on promoting their brand on social media . An A&R of 2024 is totally different from A&Rs of pre 2000s .. artists aren’t receiving guidance that helps them evolve & perfect their brand. They’re also not being prepared to handle large sums of money once they come into their contract after signing with a label.. the labels are winning but the artists are losing in the long run… they fizz out after releasing so much music at a fast rate without connecting with their audience. Imo in order to offset that development is key there’s no way around true artist development.

Another top video, Ralph has such an infectious energy. Interesting to note that his success was largely based on his bringing together disparate viewpoints in a creative way and keeping his "ear to the ground". Very insightful. His zeroing in on the emotional impact of the music as being foundational also rang true. I also noted the importance he gave to the visual aspect of an artist, and the broad range of outreach including the mobile sphere. Great work!

God bless those perfect managers. But the time spent looking for such and the amount of setbacks got because of bad choice - that I could trade to do it myself just as well. I suppose it's easier for an artist in a well-established singing genres than for an experimental non-vocal genres.

As african upcoming musicians how do we get a chance to get signed to big music labels like Atlantic records , warner music ... ?

do we need to have already produced songs to attract A&Rs ? I mean if we have acoustic versions of our song , can't we get in ?

What are the warning signs of a not so great manager? And expanding on that, how can an artist best evaluate potential managers during the interview process.

You mentioned the manager could be considered the CEO of an artists artistic career. Does this mean the artist doesn't steer their own career? I've thought of managers as more the COO. Given the veto power an artist holds, doesn't that elevate them to the top business spot?

I'm a songwriter, musician and producer. I have albums across my wall "gold & Platinum" that I've produced. Because I grew up as a preteen living artist like Stevie Wonder, EWF, The Police The Eagles. Where buying there LP or CD. And going on a musical journey. When you speak about artist that had 9 songs & 2 singles. They we're singers like The 4 tops. Or early J5 who had I want you back, who's loving you. And a bunch of fillers. Love the show.
