The Impossible Winch Install - The landcruiser gets a winch - against all odds.
I fitted a high mount winch and love it!
When others tell you something can't be done, see it as a challenge to prove them wrong. That is the only way progress is made.
In this video I show you how I fitted a #warnwinch 8274 High mount winch to my Toyota landcruiser 80 series fitted with an old school #arb bullbar even when many told me it couldn't be done.
A special thanks to @AussieArvos for allowing me to use images taken from their content for this one, much appreciated guys!

      If you have/had the same issue I had, there is absolutely no need to remove the transmission at all. Your vehicle must be suffering from another problem.

    • @78Bonne
      @78Bonne Před měsícem

      @@The_ElunduExpeditionProject Sorry, I was being sarcastic with the trans removal comment. My similar problem is with a 100 series, and I was stumped with how to get to the transmission linkage. I can only access two of the four bolts required to remove it through the large circular hole when the centre console is removed. Your video jumped straight to the unit when it was out of the car, and the only way I could find to do that on the 100 was to undo the cross-member and lower the whole transmission assembly. So, basically you didn't show what I was looking for, so I have to assume it's much easier on the 80 Series?

    Ive done similar things to my 62 series, and have now had several different sets of 33"x12.50-15 on the thing, some feel like im driving with the handbrake on, the old 3F is no powerhouse! My conclusion is that the different treads and maybe rubber compound on the different makes of tyres makes a difference in fuel economy. Not so much the size of the tyre. At the moment I have some malasian MT's on, btw a good tyre that ive done three 7000km trips with, no flats, in outback Oz and its used as a daily and the fuel economy has never been better!? Mind you its never fantastic!! While my 100 series with BFG AT tyres, well, its not so good. As well as that when they wear towards the end of their life fuel economy gets better as well. Just something to think about and maybe evaluate I guess?

    • @The_ElunduExpeditionProject
      @The_ElunduExpeditionProject Před 10 měsíci

      Thank you for your comment Paul, I really appreciate it. Unfortunately the only experience I have with 33" tyres is this one set of KUMHOs and they were pretty much poked when I got them too. You may be right about tread patterns and rubber compounds but I definitely think that the slightly different ratio helps. As soon as finances allow I will be purchasing a set of 33s to go on the 15"rims if for no other reason than I think they look amazing. The added lateral stability that the +/- 6" wider track (due to the 2" wider wheels combined with the -44 offset rims) makes is also very welcome! Thanks again for your input!

    • @The_ElunduExpeditionProject
      @The_ElunduExpeditionProject Před 2 lety

      Hi Juandre. I did not know it but mine is actually missing the lower rubber boot. The lower boot slips over the gear lever stub (quite a difficult fit) All mine has is the big upper boot that covers both gear levers. I only found out later that there is supposed to be another boot under the top boot which acts as a dust cover. But to answer your questions, the upper boot is just held down to the floor with a few screws. Remover the screws and the boot is free. I did not totally remove the top boot but worked through the gap made by lifting the rear edge up. That selector unit does not bolt to the transfer case at all, it bolts to a flat pedestal on top of the rear of the gearbox. This pedestal is not open to the internals of the gearbox so there are no gaskets at all. The selector unit is totally separate from the workings of the gearbox and links to the transfer case with a pushrod. I hope I have answered your questions. If you still need to know anything more, feel free to ask.

    Hi Dene, use thinners to remove the silicone from the vinyl. There is also a special automotive grade 3m Velcro tape which must be used for this application. The rest don't last. Cheers Bud, Paul Louw

      Thanks Paul, I will give it a try. I know from my experiences painting aircraft that you don't even bring silicone near the plane when it's being prepped for paint. Silicone is terrible when it comes to that. You just can't get rid of it.

    'n Besoek aan Sektor 10 in die reën seisoen... Ohhh.... Dit gaan nie baie lekker wees nie. As die Kunene oorloop is die hele plek onder water! Kyk na die video van my... Ek bestuur 'n left hand drive omdat ek ook in Angola gewerk het. Video link: czcams.com/video/C1YAgIUWqxg/video.html

      Dis die enigste tyd dat ek die trip kan doen my maat. Ek was in 1987 daar van middel December 1986 tot Dec 1987 en kan nie onthou dat dit so sleg was nie. Ek kan onthou hoe ons n paar keer die paaie in dioe reen moes vee maar daar was geen vloeding nie. Ons kyk wat gebeur... :-)

      @@The_ElunduExpeditionProject Ek was natuurlik gelukkig dat ek elke keer voor die reën seisoen grens dienste gedoen het. Met my terug besoeke aan Ovamboland was die April Mei toere die beste. Kontak die Namibië Okahandja basis voor julle besoek. Dit sal dit maklik maak die Ovamboland en Rundu plekke en die kaplyn te besoek as hulle julle verwag anders kan die teleurstellings groot wees as hulle toegang weier.
