Longevity of a DIY Electric Bike/Trike -- 3 Year Test
In this video, I do a range test 3 years after putting together this electric tricycle.
The kit was made by Voilamart and the battery was produced by Unit Pack Power. As you'll see in the video, both have withstood the test of time and use. For more information on the build, watch my previous videos in the series.

Range, top speed, and battery charge times of a 1000w Front hub kit. I'm using a 52v 20ah battery. You can expect slightly lower top speeds from a 48v pack. Instagram: bought_and_built
1000w Electric Bike Finished! -- Part 3

I built a Electric Trike for under $1000 that goes more than 25mph! This series can apply to building a bike as well. I used a 1000watt front hub motor. I would recommend NOT using a Voilamart kit as there very cheaply made. For the battery I used a Unit Pack Power 52v 20ah battery which has been very reliable and hasn't given me any issues. If you have any questions about how to do this yourse...

I've been considering a conversion with the same trike. I'm encouraged to see it held up so well. One question though. Why did you choose hub over mid-drive? I am substantially "larger" than you, and live in an area where I need hill climbing power. Therefore I've been looking at a Bafang BBSHD mid-drive.
Dude forgot the lube
Can you tell me what kind of rack you used to attach the top box? I am having a hard time finding anything that will fit! Thanks :)
Look Up! I have a 3-wheeler and it has a1'000 watt motor on the front wheel. It also gos 44Mph. 25Mph is just a slower cruising speed.
I really wish you better pointed out each thing that you took off, although the video was still really helpful!
Agreed
I need help I have a tricycle bike and only have $125.00 to make it electrical. If anyone can recommend a kit that I can use to get around. I am homeless and something electrical to get around if anyone can be off assistance would greatly appreciate.
Yo bro so I got an electric wheel for my trike an I wasn’t able to use it cuz I didn’t know it needed a battery so I just been padding it like a regular bike will the wheel still work once I get the battery cuz my whole bike keeps vibrating?
Check to make sure the wires coming from the wheel aren’t touching each other. If they touch it’ll make the whole bike vibrate. I would put electrical tape around the end of the three big wires. But the wheel should still work if that’s the problem.
I don’t have anything hooked up yet cuz I’m waiting to get the battery pack for it I was hoping to get it this week but I didn’t get paid enough from work so im waiting till next week .
Where is the windshield from ?
It’s just a universal windshield from Amazon. Fairly cheap and definitely recommend!
I am gathering parts to build a Mooncool MTB trike that is a step through. I am going to make it a 72volt 30AH with a 2000 watt front wheel hub and I will use a motorcycle stabilizer arm to stop the steering from getting too squirrelly. I liked your use of 2 torque arms, that is a great idea as I was only planning to use one, cheers for that! I am going to raise the basket in the back by bolting in a 1/4 inch piece of aluminum and then using that platform to house the battery and electronics. I am going to attach the Fardriver 72250 controller heat sink down against the aluminum plate adding heat sink compound to dissipate more heat. I am eager to get this build under way and am just waiting for the battery at this point.
Seattle’s finest❤
I've always wondered how long e trikes last
Torque arms are backwards.
Great build! However you're lacking fuses in your 12v circuitry, some people have regretted that oversight.
Bro thought he could get away with making the hardest trike edit and thought we wouldn't notice
Thanks for the videos.. I have an 08, ran great until battery went dead, so we just had to kick start it ,and still ran fine. After taking battery out and charging , it will idle fine but bogs down when I give it gas , and has no power . Have you ever run across this ?? Thanks in advance
The rubber intake may be cracked letting in extra air. If so, coat in silicon sealant and retighten.
Good video but what are the two ports on the bottom of the carb used for mine has the same thing n jus wondering since there’s nothing going to em?
Thank you for your time and effort dear brother ❤️
Nice, that was a good little video man
WHERES THE FUEL FILTER? WHERES THE FUEL PUMP???? SHOW!!!!
it's just to the rear of the gas tank and underneath a little bit. Remove plastics, remove black floor panel, peel tank up by the rear and under there they'll be
I need to get or make a trike ebike, this is a nice way to do it. Dude why is the music way louder then your voice?
I have a 2009 and I this doing the same thing the guy I bought it from had been sitting in his garage it was his daughters but she nearly crashed it and he took it away from her. So I ordered a complete new carb and hoping that fix’s my problem but it should the same way as this does before cleaning the carb. I hope I don’t have to drain the tank and change the fuel filter
Ciao posso sapere il modello della bici grazie 🔋
How do you prevent snake bite on your bike? Have you had any punctures or problems with the e bike ever since you posted this video?
How much you pay for that 52V 20Ah triangle battery
Why did you put the camera a mile away we can’t see anything
The speed comparison is only good if one the same piece of road. Hazy info. I know not of speed diff.results
My State limits E-Bikes to 750w. So I really want to air on the safe side since my Driver's License is Revoked.
Just lie and say it's 750w if somehow you ever managed to get pulled over. No cop is going to pull over a bike unless you're doing stupid stuff anyways. The law is vague, just says 750W. Doesn't say it can't peak higher than 750W
WHY DON'T E-BIKE DEALERS TELL THERE CUSTOMS ABOUT eBike torque arm AND THAT THEY NEED TO INSTALL THEM?
Kind of hard to watch your video even though I'm going to when it starts out and you got the fender on backwards 😂
What. Di A. Are the pulleys? A longer belt ?
What size were the 26 in tires that came with the bike basically the width. They look big in the video just want to make sure.
thats really awesome man!, i was thinking of picking up one of those trikes on amazon. they seem like units!
Fantastic project, Nathan! Well done. I’m looking to build one myself.
Lithium batteries can take safely 1c thats the rated capacity of the cell. In that configuration that you have, that cell will never see 1c unless you charge it with tons of amps.If you charge that 1kw/h batteri with 52v 2a thats 100w. Those 100w get divided by the number of cells you have in the pack, so if you have 100 cells in it every cell will get 1w to charge per hour. You can easily charge that 1kw pack with 10 amp charger and still be under recomended lithium charge current per cell
Might wanna try a tool box to put the stereo setup in its an awesome way to carry it
It sounds like you did not install the pedal assist sensor...I've never ridden an ebike and am converting my mother-in-law's trike with the same kit you used...what are the advantages or disadvantages of the pas? Seems like nobody bothers with it...
Do you have 26 in tires
😊
Great video, I think I’ll revive mine. I haven’t rode it in forever.
Hello ver y nice video very good very nice enjoyed gave like 👍I am thinking maybe next you put v8 enjine in the bike? I think this would be very easy change to improve power as this version seems like it may be weak and not capable of going very fastly so this could be a good thing to do for the bike overall very cool thank you for sharing gave it a thumbs up and subscribed 👍
I'm confused
Good analysis, I'm thinking of buying a 750watt ebike, do you think it's enough?
Yes most definitely
They make 26" Tannus Tires. This trike has 26" wheels to double check can I put 3 Tannus Tires on this trike and what's the website I can buy this trike and with like 2 or 3 extra batteries ?
From what I've learned and now emphasizing, any extra device on ya e bike should always have a SPARE TIRE ( a lot of effort of work to insert tube of heavy e bike)
For front 1500 watt hubs with 2 inch wide tires, try not to excel throttle when leaning to turn or sharp turns. Going over 20mph gets the torque of motor to push down pinching tubes to inner sides. It happens twice of same speed, same area of turns, and same blow out at same spot. Having 2 inch wide tires limits usage for bike tires not meant for 20plus mph due to pressure of speed.
You really can't speed thru pot holes, cracks, cement up lifts of concret, dips, ect. Constant pressure will have tire always needing repumping
Good video bro. What light is that? Looks good.
I had a 500watt 12v front hub on my 21spd mtn bike. I drove it 24 miles once, and up some very steep mountains. Had juice to spare. The speed was about the same as 750watt, between 15 & 20mph. When I peddled I was almost as fast as traffic, say maybe 25mph. I don't like hub motors anymore thou, vibrations can crk your frame. Been looking at multiple friction kits & etrailers. Informative video 👍
Friction kit is worse than hub motor
ahahaha I also fell for the missing rim tape😁
,👍
Good...Just need to talk louder. Even with volume all the way up almost can't hear everything.
