Great video, what size drill bit did you use for the screws? Instructions say 5mm but it looks like you’re using much smaller. Thanks!
I’m putting electric steps on mine, i think it looks cleaner in my option, I’m scared 4 wheeling my tires might grab onto mud flap and damage my fenders!
I bet the electric steps will look great.
I bought the 2024 AT4X and it looks like these will work on this year's model as well but I can't locate the steps on the GMC Website. Do you know if they no longer offer them and if so, can you provide a link? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
You're right, they're not there anymore. I did Google the part number and found them on Chevy's website and on a different GMC website. Front step: 84808889 Rear step: 85158582
Thanks so much for all your help and the video. I did find them on another website as well. They’re on back order so they must be popular. I love the look and I saw them on another guy’s truck too so I ordered them. Much appreciated for your reply!
Truck looks killer.
Thanks!
Stupid question.... Were you just drilling into plastic or sheet metal behind the plastic?
I was just drilling thru the plastic because the metal body behind the plastic already had holes in it exactly where they needed to be.
This was by far the most detailed video I could find on the install of these splash guards. I installed them on my 2024 AT today, the install took longer than expected but not overly difficult. I drilled out the hole for the push pins on the front splash guards as suggested and they went in without any issues. Thank you for making the great video, it would have taken me much longer to do the install without it.
Thanks, I appreciate the comment.
Regarding the Push Pin: I just downloaded some instructions someone posted... and it says to drill out (over bore/make bigger) the push pin hole to 7 mm. 7 mm is 0.2756". Potential standard bit options would be 17/64 (0.2656) or 9/32 (0.2813). I believe a previous poster (onemileatatime) used a 5/16 (0.3125). Hope it helps. Update: completed my install today. Once I drilled THE PLASTIC TAB of the guard to 7mm (17/64) the push pin went right in with firm hand force only. No need to over bore the hole in the metal panel.
Thank you I was getting frustrated and would have probably broken it!
I was about to break mine too. I had to look it up and thought we needed a CZcams video about it. Thanks for watching!
Hi there. Thanks for ur video. Can’t wait to order and get them installed on my Edition 1 as well. I’m 5 feet tall and I told my husband ; that was the only issue with this truck. I have to use the rock sliders to get in and sometimes jump from them to get down🤣. Thanks again !
My wife and I are not tall people and it only took getting my pants muddy once to know I needed these steps! Thanks for watching!
Man thanks for doing this. I have a set, but was struggling with the poor instructions. What do you recommend for the push pin that was giving you a piece of heaven?
I tappered the end of the plug and trimmed about 1/16" off of it. Then I worked it in with various tools to get the right angle. The mud flap needed to be pushed all the way in, to be sure the holes aligned. I'm still not 100% happy with that one part, but it's staying in.
I put these steps on my AT4X two weeks ago. They are fantastic. I also put on the GMC rubber mud flaps / splash guards. I really like those. They give the truck a rally look.
You have great taste! Loving my AT4X so far.
how long did it take for yours to come in...mine are still on backorder
@@kc2743they showed up within a few days. Ordered direct from GMC accessories website.
@@dna1149 yeah, ordered from there as well...weeks ago, still on backorder
Look like training wheels......
jeezuz.. I was literally overthinking the install of this. I was trying to figure out how to install this without removing the tire AND drilling new hole. I guess it's inevitable. Awesome guide! Thank you!
Glad I could help!
Best detailed video of putting these on that I have seen. I ended up getting mine on before I saw this but didn’t get the 2 metal fasteners on because I didn’t really know to pull the fender well cover back on the front. I’ll have to go back and do that now. On the front for the push pin, the other videos I found they did have to drill it out to make it fit. I did as well and had to use a longer one I had for my house shutters to put back into the bottom seems to work fine Thx for the video!!!
Glad to help. I appreciate the comment.
Great DIY video! I just used yours to do mine! Well done! For the push tab on the underside, front, I used a 5/16 drill bit to mildly enlarge the hole of the splash guard; the tab inserted snuggly. For those with smaller hands, the metal retaining clips can be inserted without removing additional screws of the felt fender-well.
Great tips, thanks for watching!
Why did you consider that model over their Sherpa?
We chose the Transfer V2 because it holds a little more weight, and we thought we may purchase E- bikes down the road. We also liked the idea that it is expandable. It looks great on our Jeep and we're still very happy with it.
Ordered mine yesterday...thanks for the video! I've been looking around trying to find what they look like and what it looks like getting in and out of the truck with them installed. Your video was perfect for that!
I'm looking for more Mods for this truck. Let me know what you're doing to yours or what other videos would be helpful.
@@dna1149 as soon as DiodeDynamics or someone similar comes out with replacements for the interior lighting, I will replace that. Diamondback SE cover ordered as well.
This is EXACTLY what I am looking for! Thanks for the vid!!
By far the best instructional video I have ever seen.
Are the hitch locks to prevent theft of the hitch itself or for the bike rack.
The receiver hitch is mounted to the car's frame. The hitch pin lock goes thru receiver hitch and keeps whatever is inserted into it from being easily taken out. That may be a trailer, a camper or in this case the bike rack. If someone REALLY wanted it, they could cut your receiver off your car. So it locks the bike rack itself to your car, and keeps it from easily being stolen. Hope this helps, thanks for watching.
Best instructional video ever! We bought the Kuat after seeing your video. Now the search for the hitch lock and for locking bike to the rack that can’t be cut by a thief. Any suggestions for bike locking to rack?
We haven't went down that rabbit hole yet, but would love to know what your research comes up with. The cable that comes with the rack is probably a deterant. If someone wanted to cut it, they could, with the right tools. I'm sure there are thicker cables that are harder to cut. Please reply back if you end up purchasing something. I'd like to know.
Quite helpful … thank you! I have a cheap little Chinese hand steam cleaner that I used to do a “final rinse” on the threads prior to application of pipe dope or marine grease just to not leave any contaminants in contact with the pipe or cap just because I was about to seal up whatever is there for potentially a long time. This would also be one more thing to minimize potential chemical assistance to the dreaded ‘dissimilar metals galvanic corrosion’ process.
Great video. Very informative and helpful. Thank you. 👍
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks. Excellent talk through.
Excellent 👍 Got it done in a couple of minutes!
Bet neither of those hitch locks passed muster on Lock Picking Layers website.
This was actually one of the smartest ways i have seen someone do this. Even though the snake bite they are meant for, is useless, they are good at this apparently. When i was about 13 a nighbours puppy was just left to wander the neighborhood and he always came to visit me. One day i noticed he had the giant lump on his side and freaked out. I ended up calling a vet and asking advice. They were very kind and helpful to just a scared kid. I was told it was most likely a weevil. They are more gray and have a flatter face and also more like rubber, than the easy to pop bot flies. It was one of the most disgusting things i have ever done and the puppy laid still the whole time. He knew i was helping. At one point i debated if i was pulling out intestine. Yuck.I got tweezers and went at slowly pulling it out. The hole it left behind was huge. I cleaned him up and that was all i could do for him. I wanted to be a vet after that, But i don't deal with loss and serious injury well.
What were the caps you pulled off before you started cleaning threads? Thanks
Those were a 2" and 3" test plug. They were just temporary. The brass caps are the permanent caps.
Short and sweet, Thankyou for that. Probably would have broke mine otherwise.
Perfect video. Thank you 1,000,000 times ! I just bought one.
Glad it helped!
I love it when "how to" video is short and to the point like this
Thanks a million
You know what , I was really 😢struggling and your u tube vid was simple and to the point , God Bless 🙏🏼🇺🇸
Should have used a course rag to wipe out the threads. And that's way too much sealer.
👍
Not seeing link to buy locking hitch pin
Hi, thanks for watching. They are in the description, under the first section called "items we reviewed in this video". I checked them and both links are working.
Just what I was looking for. I was a hair away from taking a small pry took to remove the spring underneath the cover that you showed how to so easily lift. Thanks for saving me an additional cost and boatload of frustration, lol.
I know, I was really close to breaking mine too!
Same here
I've noticed a lot of people saying a 5/8 inch pin won't fit, but it seems to work for you?
Yes, I just confirmed that mine is a 5/8" pin and it works, but I think it's the hitch receiver that designates the size pin you can use. Some people's hitch may not have a 5/8" hole, it may be smaller.
@@dna1149 If you buy the 2" Transfer model it will accept the 5/8" pin. The 1.25" model will not.
That subscribe pitch sounds like an Apple keynote event
Thank you for this great review and the detailed information. This will be my next rack. ❤
Thanks for watching!
This video is awesome, very informative. I believed that the removal can only be achieved with tweezers. Love that brave dog, good dog parenting.👍🏻
I have this same problem and I have a tap ordered, but I am going to try this method. Thanks!
I waited too long, because some of my threads were rusted away. Good luck!
Thank you! Worked just as you said.
Worked like a charm
Best video ever! As I said “OhMyGOSH!” when you opened the hatchback, you smiled at the camera.👌. HaHaHa! Best presentation. You get us bike ppl. Thx!
Thanks for taking the time to comment! Can't wait to get out riding again this spring.
Do you bike move a little when the car is in motion? Have you noticed any rusting? What is the quality of the cable lock? Someone mentioned it looked like you could cut thru it with kid scissors. Do you have any additional cable lock or just the one thst comes with it? Thsnks!
The bikes may wiggle just a tiny bit, but overall they stay in place very well. I don't worry about them at all! I haven't noticed any rusting, but I take it off when I know I'm not going to use it for a while. I don't leave it on all summer. I think the cable lock is a deterant. If someone wanted to cut it with a big set of lock cutters they probably could. I don't feel like the cable is wimpy. If you were staying at a hotel or something, I'd bring my bikes in at night just to be safe.
@@dna1149 cool! Thanks so much!! I just made my decision! 😁
I tried cutting mine with a sweet set of purple kid scissors. You know, the one's made of plastic with the round nose. And... No Dice 🎲! Barely made a mark on the plastic. I suspect a very expensive set of cable cutters, like First Responders carry would do the trick. The way I see it. If there's someone that determined to steal from you. So much so that they would carry a very specialized set of cable cutters. They're going to take whatever they want and there's no stopping them. That said, I feel very confident and the security of our bikes when I'm using this rack.
@@strive2thrivive290 thank you soooo much!!! Very helpful!
