    Question, that Yowoo battery you have is a 2S so, your volt reading at 16:32 was showing 8.4V. When you put the lead into your Hitec Lipo Checker at 17:36 one cell was showing 4.16v and the other at 4.17v, combined is 8.33v, still not 8.4V but closer to it. I say this because I don't think it's a true inaccuracy. Great video though and I'm learning a great deal.

    Lamont, this is fascinating, but also makes me not want to race Mini Z's ever again. I would rather have a 10+ page rulebook with strict penalties than have to drill and shim a motor just to race what were supposed to be driveable diecast cars/model cars. Whining about motors is why I generally avoid the 1/10 TC's without massive rules and scale bodies, and would rather build drift cars and rock crawlers forever if given the choice.

    • @ejcourtemanch2689

      Miniz racing is fun! For 2500 classes, the best motors already are able to have the rotor shimmed any way possible, its only at 3500 where the Hobbywing needs the hole. Due to the adjustable timing its the best motor. However, its designed without an opening on the inside of the motor. For club racing you'll still be fine without drilling the hole. That's only needed if you want to go to big races and compete for the win!

      Eh... Box Stock is still pretty good for beginners. This problem isn't limited to miniz. 1/10 buggy just went through it with the Trinity Slot Machine motors. It's racing. You have to read the rules looking for what isn't there and how much speed you can stuff into that blank space. Or just run mod. Really mod isn't nearly as hard as people think it is. When I first started running buggy way back Mod was all I ran because I didn't want to deal with all the "rules & restrictions". I'm not making these videos to bad mouth spec racing. I'm trying to raise awareness on how much a person needs to know to compete.

  • @Glocktologist
    @Glocktologist Před 2 měsíci

    I think the test voltage could cause this difference. The KV rating of a motor is a nominal number. How many RPMs you actually get per one volt will vary depending on the motor load. Even an unloaded motor is not 100% free of load. It has to overcome friction and air resists the movement of the rotor. At a higher RPM the resistance from these factors is higher so the KV figure will be lower. I bet if you could get the HW to put out 8.4 Volts it would read a lower KV value. Or, turning the SkyRC down to 7.4 Volts would result in a higher KV reading. Based on this test, I’m not even sure these analyzers are off compared to each other. It might very well be that they are both accurate and the difference we observe is caused by the difference in the input voltage.

    • @BASHERSUNITED
      @BASHERSUNITED Před 2 měsíci

      Possibly. kv shouldn't change based on voltage. If it did the meter is the issue not the motor. What I was showing is the the skyrc input voltage was incorrect. You can't pull a constant 8.5v from a 8.2v source.

    • @Glocktologist
      @Glocktologist Před 2 měsíci

      Do you think anything can cause the KV to change?

    • @BASHERSUNITED
      @BASHERSUNITED Před 2 měsíci

      @Glocktologist I think that meters can be incorrect. The kv should vary from motor and heat conditions can affect thus but it's exact range should be measurable by a good meter.

    • @Glocktologist
      @Glocktologist Před měsícem

      @BASHERSUNITED I have difficulty wrapping my head around this. As far as I know, Kv is not exactly the value we are told. It is the back EMF at a given rpm: if you run a 3300 Kv motor at 3300 rpm, the B-EMF will be 1 Volt. At 6600 RPM, it’s 2 Volts. This gives the impression that providing 1 Volt makes the motor turn at 3300 rpm and 2 Volts makes it turn at 6600 rpm, as the value is presented to us. However, it’s only true if there is zero load of any kind resisting the rotor movement. In real life, motors may be manufactured to overcome some of the resistance so it meets the value at some rpm, but I don’t know if it’s physically possible to build a motor that increases rpm on a linear slope in relation to the input voltage on an actual test bench. Because differing input voltage can throw off the measurements, I think the accuracy of the motor analyzers can be reliably compared only if you have a constant input voltage for both.

      @BASHERSUNITED Před měsícem

  • @gotmesom

    I'll just say this about lipo 2500. Yes they are absolutely cheating. They're are or soon to be outlawed escs that allow more dynamic timing than other escs. GL and MWO I believe are the brands. And ironically th4 winners and top 5 are all running them. Also they are only checking motor at the start of the race. After tech these guys are shimming after tech and gaining another 40 to 80 kv. Theyre also doin tricks with the rear tires. In Iowa Wolfram race the guy that won the race literally pulled away from me on the straight like I had a parachute on and my motor was 2791 kv!! Theyre cheaters and they know it. Yes you have to drive and be consistent but straight up, they're cheating and they know it. Jeff the race director called it out at the beginning of the race saying if you can sleep well at night cheating then fine but some want to win playing by the rules. Thanks for addressing this. See you at the next one, most likely PN Nationals in Pittsburgh

    Can the Hobbywing test at 8.4V?

    • @BASHERSUNITED
      @BASHERSUNITED Před 2 měsíci

      Not that I know of. Really the test voltage isn't an issue as long and it's static and consistent. 7.4 volts is the minimum voltage of a 2S lipo so the testing is less affected by a lipo batteries charge status. What would be better is the skyrc being lower.

  • @EMU1
    @EMU1 Před 2 měsíci

    You bring up many good topics in this video. Spec racing is basically pushing the powertrain and car setup to the absolute limits. Which is why it typically has a much higher ceiling but lower floor than mod racing as far as tuning is concerned. What I mean by that, spec racing is easier to enter than mod, so it has a low floor. But, to race at the front, the knowledge of EVERY area of the car is VERY important. Maximizing power deliver, efficiency, reducing rotating mass, and coming in as close to the weight limit as possible is pretty much par for the course to race in the A main at big events. The variance between different SkyRC analyzers is noticible. Enough that a "pro" stock driver would want to tune multiple motors with about 50kv difference between them. Test one at an event to see what the offset is between their analyzer and the one at the event, so they can use the fastest motor that will pass. You can notice in your test, that motor temperature matters in testing. Testing cold, the analyzer showed 3602. By the end of the test, it was showing 3620. If you let it run longer, it will test even higher. When we first implemented motor checks with a KV limit, top 3 were tested after the race, and many failed because the motors were hot and showing higher KV's than they would when cold. Generally, as the bearing warms up, it offers lower resistance. (also pro drivers are often replacing the bearings with ceramic in the cans). Test voltage can also change the result, which is why I always like to test with a power supply to control the voltage more accurately. The HW running at a static 7.4v does increase repeatability as it doesnt rely on higher source voltage for "accurate" results. As with any ESC, there is always slight variance in the speed that the motor runs. Similarly, these motor testers have that same variance since they are basically ESC's that read the KV. Your sample size is small, and to have a definitive trend, one would need to test many units to see if the 60kv delta between testers is par for the course. When tuning, you tune to your analyzer, but have to expect that other testers may read higher or lower than the one you have, and prepare for that difference.

    • @BASHERSUNITED
      @BASHERSUNITED Před 2 měsíci

      I can't speak to what makes this specific car expensive to produce. However, I can say that manufacturing at this scale is very expensive. The tolerances needed to get slop-free parts are way way smaller and harder to produce than at any other scale. Molded parts are extremely hard. Getting molds built to the required tolerances can take a lot of time, effort, and cost. Everyone is focused on the rising costs of kits. However, looking outside of the costs of the kit, the running costs are really where you save with 28th scale. Tires are one of the biggest costs to go racing. When I'm not running 28th, I run a lot of 10th scale clay. A set of clay slicks will run you $50-75 depending on where you buy and if you reuse wheels and that set will get you through one club race. You can get a set of tires for $15 and get a bunch of packs out of them. That's where the true savings is.

      There is an RC track list online somewhere. If you join our Facebook group Lapsus Est Vita and hop in the offroad chat someone in there could tell you I'm sure.

    Have you tried the gla by gl racing? Its supposed to require less tunning, but somehow im sceptical after hearing your experience with the bz3

      This video is pretty old. I figured it out. BZ3 still wouldn't be my first choice these days but it's workable. The GLAV2 is good but the chassis that's (wide) best is no longer available. The SZ2 and the GL Guilia are the newest offerings. I run both of them currently and they're both good.

      @BASHERSUNITED thanks. Do you think belt vs shaft drive matters at this scale? It seems BZ3 is still the latest belt drive. Also why even still run AWD in 1/28th scale?

      @pb-rn3zs we used to run AWD at RC UNDERGROUND ARENA. They ran it at the PN World's too. Not nearly as popular as superstock or mod but it's there. Belts are smoother no doubt. The BZ3 is the ONLY belt car out. I hear the BZ4 is coming soon as well. I wouldn't pick and AWD as my first 1/28 scale chassis though. Stick with 2wd. It's more versatile. You can run mod or superstock with 2wd.

      @BASHERSUNITED thanks! I'm not new to RC and want the challenge of AWD 1/28. Appreciate the content you've put out. The BZ3 is sold out everywhere, what do you recomend between the SZ2 or Guilia?
