We went up there in 1996. There was some former graduate student living up there. He was called the "Screamer." They wouldn't let him have his geology degree, so he lived there anyway. He lived there for about four years. He lived in the northwest corner of the SUB attic. You can go there, today, and find stuff he left behind. We found a paperweight inscribed in glass, "1913." It was something from a former president's desk. It's an advertisement for cigars. We also found porn. He was a nose brother in his undergraduate days. But, injured in an automobile accident in 1992 he became brain damaged (MBD). No money to live, he lived in the SUB attic. He finished his thesis by candle light and typed the final copy in the girl's student library computer lab in Draper Hall. They wouldn't let him use Moody computer lab. The librarian said he ogled girls. He took a freshman girl to his room in 1994. She reported him to the janitor. But the janitor said, "No!" It was in the Lariat and stuff! The Lariat editors, to this date, deny the story of the "Screamer." Although they published on it in 1996. We couldn't find any back issues. But some people remember the story. At night, way late, he ate garbage out of the student center dumpster. He went there every evening before the truck came. He ate hamburger left-overs. He often vomited. But, no one helped him. The bears in the bear pit were his friends. He fed them cheerios from the HEB. He was back in the attic every morning by 5 am. He took his degree, but only barely, and much later went to work for the city of Dallas as a low-pay draftsman. He was fired after about three-months on the job. He once was seen wearing a suit made of duct tape. At his graduation, he was booed. No one liked him. If you met him you would hate him too.
