We are taking YOU on a journey - into the water and around the world!
It is our dream to set sail, liveaboard a sailboat and slowly travel to those distant lands that we’ve only read about in books. But first, we wanted to learn more about our future home. So we bought a steel sailboat in Brazil and are doing a complete restoration on it - which turned out to be an adventure of it’s own! And we want you to join us for every twist and turn. Together we will experience the ups and downs of making this dream come true.

You really need access to the hose that pumps urine etc out. You need to be able to remove it, because urine and salt water leads to blockage of the hose. Use a rubber hose and you can use a rubber hammer to hammer the scale out of the hose twice a year.
A quien se le acude comfiar en Aple?
I love my composting toilet
Thanks for an intresting video again. Be safe and skilful. Pinge
Tbh I think the bed base should have been raised, giving you extra bed space and under bed storage. Yes, I know there was a hatch, but that could've been accessed underneath the bed, or a lift up section by the foot of the bed to access that front hatch.
Love to see your progres will be helpful now when I working to be able to makemy long lost dream of living on a boat realagain. Be safe and skilful. Pinge
got hooked on your videos and makeing my way through them. great job on the graphics and diagrams.
Hey, did you hear that Woody Hyezmar is giving his collection of projects at no cost at all? Go'ogle his latest material, there's a similar project, pretty close to this one, if I'm not mistaken.
Do you think your nav station cabinet door might be a desk sweeper?
Nice concept, but I would highly recommend a diesel engine. Electric, maybe on a big foam core catamaran but only with the capacity to get into the harbor in combination with a hybride diesel for off coast maneuvering I would highly recommend to use a diesel engine that can run on old fryer oil. Then you can collect fryer oil on a bicycle with a few jerrycans for free. Just dump it in a big tank and you’ll motor almost for free. And often they’ll start the engine on a small tank with diesel in order to heat the fryer oil with a copper pipe around the exhaust so it becomes more viscous. You should check out this Dutch couple. They sail a Dutch steel sailboat that they fixed up on a budget. Recycled mast with a tapered boom build from the excess length of the mast, biodiesel engine, custom self steering wind vane, custom build pilothouse with inboard steering, wood stove etc. etc. This is part one of a three episode show and tell interview. czcams.com/video/MqINHVcHiBo/video.htmlsi=axEoRcBc_UltUhwg
Once you get in the water be sure to treat the hoses with vinegar or Sew Clean$$$$$$$ often!
I would like to offer a cheap quick solution to your door fail. Actually your video solved the problem I was have trouble with doing the exact same opening your boat does . Have your fabricator build a 1/2 “ x 3/4” deep track on both sides of the frame . This method will also allow you to gain the top part of the door which I see you lost by having to lift the door up into the slot hanging from your ceiling. I say move the enclosure back flush with the original opening . I cut 1” square pieces of walnut sized it to the width of the inside of the track allowing 1/8” on each side to make sure it will slide easily. Mill off 5/16 of an inch off of 2 sides of each slat opposite of each other and on each end of the slat . What it will leave is a tab that will secure the slats so they can only slide up to be push back into the enclosure you already have , to open slide up upward and downward to close. After you get the slats perfectly level so they move freely inside the slotted frame on each side. Now on the interior side of the you have some more choices to make on how you want to connect all of the wood slats , I used canvas glued and stapled hold each slat the correct distance apart ( like a roll top desk. That’s where I got the idea . But since you need it weather proof maybe rubber it’s your choice . It is important to make sure the distance between each slat allows the entire door to make it through the bend of the door track at the top and make that bend ( almost like a 7 but with a radius at the bend). So when you install your hinge the slats will make that corner smoothly . Just go look at a roll top desk and there you will have it.
What kind of wires did you use?
look at the bright side. you are fabricators now
Painting with a very good quality epoxy paint it will last 100 years
Why not use a composting toilet instead?
Hey guys, Just make sure you look at your power budget ie regen from sailing carefully considering realistic boat speeds. SInce it is a steely, this may not be that great unless you have great wind. DOn't beleive all that you read...most is BS. MY boat will only just be getting there and I imagine it will sail at 8 knots minimum being a cat and less than half of your weight. Sounds good though. Good luck!
Its gonna be a great boat keep on rolling
Its coming along great
This man is making his own little tablesaw!! 💪👍👍
Gosh what an eye opening video. Thankyou for opening my eyes to this option. We have just had a nightmare with our blacktank on our boat, here's the video - czcams.com/video/AJgTR45qfOs/video.html - and now I am thinking about your treatment plant and how to integrate it into our system. Do you have an update video? Love your graphics. I look forward to jumping into more of your content!
Glad you found our video helpful! Your video was so real about the challenges of blackwater tanks, thanks for sharing. We are still in the middle of our build so we haven't tested the Electroscan just yet. But the second we splash we will be writing full reviews of our experience. We'll keep you posted. Cheers!
Just watched a sailing video with 5 days of no wind where on a 34 ft boat are going to put enough solar panels to keep enough charge to run your boat.Well like everything else you have done on the boat you have a to do multiple times when are ever gone to lean
More and more people are going all electric, first , always plan trips around weather patterns with multiple days of no wind , modern weather gear provides the capability to do this. Second, LI batteries are awesome,, Third , these two aren’t stupid, they got this..
This is very true @allenwade6087 . Uma says this as well. Traveling with their electric motor is a different kind of sailing. There is a lot of planning to understand the weather and the boats capabilities. It has also made them step up and become better sailors so they can get the most out of the wind. Also, Technology has come a long way in a short period of time, and we're very interested in seeing what we can build and how it performs.
Lithium batteries are not orientation limited due to "dry cell" technology.they have clearance issues for heat dissipation.free form the battery layout for accessability.
Por favor, numerar los videos. Gracias
Estamos actualizando nuestros videos con los números para ayudar! Gracias por tus comentarios!
Go hybrid.
Sergio is a very handyman you may bless yourself with his knowledge en help.
Indeed! He is a man of very many talents, and an excellent teacher as well.
When you sail those "oddly inclined seats" will make a lot more sense!
The angle of the benches would have been suitable during the most agressive heel. But since this is a liveaboard boat and not a racing boat, then the living spaces, including the cockpit need to be comfortable while at rest as well.
You are making a massive error, even with a big battery bank, you will not have the endurance of a conventionally powered boat, in the event of country winds, and tide , your battery's will not be sufficient for a prolonged run, I suggest you reconsider , it is your not only lives you place in jeporady , but those Sent to rescue you
Yes agree all videos need numbering so we can see them in order
Ah interesting, we were thinking that people just went on our page and found the videos in order. Are you watching on a TV? Is that why it would help to be in the title?
You need to have large drainage holes in the lower ends of the battery boxes in the hope never needed but we'll worth drilling out now
Great suggestion! Good looking out! Cheers ⛵️
Stay tuned for part two where they change the batteries out and put a diesel engine and maybe a couple battle born not some knock off???
That would make an interesting episode. Sadly Battle Born batteries are not available in Brazil and would cost over 100% of the price to import.
How long have you all been working on this project for now ??
We have been working on and off for about 2 years. We had a lot of down time in the year before.
😃😃😃
🔋⛵️😁
electric boat is a big mistake
Facts!
Why?
Even Uma has a generator.
Nah.. but you need to adapt your travel style, you go way slower
@@joeyblackwell6727 do a research
We have an electric motor, basically we are sailing without an engine except for the last mile, loving every minute under sail, going old-school. Amazon Brazil has some amazing deals but foreigners should get a CPF online before arriving in Brazil.
Ah yes, the dreaded CPF is quite annoying. Good to know you can get it online! Thanks for your electric motor feedback! Did you opt to have a backup generator too or are doing well without?
@lahakai We have a backup generator 2000w is best, but we are using 1000w, making do until we can get a larger one. A backup is necessary Toyama generators are available from Amazon Brazil.
See you using CAD... Cardboard Aided Design
😂😂
Can you put numbers in your videos do we xan see correct order. Love the videos but finding it difficult. Especialky the ones were you are fixing the boat😊
We can do this no problem! We had them in there before and removed them because we thought people could find the order on our video tab in our profile. Do you prefer watching our channel on the computer, phone or TV?
@lahakai I watch them on my mobile. Sometimes I screencast to my tv
Thanks for letting us know! We have added the Ep# now to the titles. You can also head to our profile and under the videos tab, it default show you all of them in order from latest to oldest. Cheers!
I spray cans of that plastic paint on the bottom of battery boxes.
It’s all still coming together, well done. Can I commend the video editing. Just wondered who does it, how did they learn and what software is used, great use of graphics to explain things!
Thanks so much! 🙏🙏 Luke and I do it all 😅 We use DaVinci Resolve free version and taught ourselves. It's really straight forward and its easy to find how-tos on YT when you want to try something new.The Pro version of the software also looks great and we'd love to upgrade one day (just a one time fee evidently) but so far the free version is working out just fine! Cheers!
make 1 big accu bank not 8 smal one
looking great the three of you work well together
Nice way to make a table saw out of a hand saw
That Sergio is pretty clever isn't he 😉
czcams.com/video/aJYKYICEUlE/video.html n this video, I share why I believe a fully ELECTRIC is not a good idea for long-distance sailing. It's as I see it unrealistic and unsafe. I'm also explaining why I mean a HYBRID solution only is a IMAGINARY GREEN SOLUTION. The reality is that a hybrid solution end of the day only is a crazy expensive and complicated diesel solution, that is not as environmentally friendly as you might think. The most funny part of a Hybrid solution is that the one thing aboard my boat that I really would like to get rid of, is the same that will be the most critical component in a Hybrid solution. I am talking about the generator. A diesel generator is the way to go if you like to make things complicated, unreliable, and expensive. Knowing that you will depend 100% on a machine that will fail more than you can imagine, and you will still burn more diesel than you think should put some warning lights on. In this video, I have used images and calculations from Oceanvolt. A company I believe has the best solutions today, but unfortunately, I still believe that before batteries and electric solutions are even within a range of safety and economics there will be new and better technology competing these solutions. From my point of view, a fully electric should not get a CE class A certification. A stands for offshore sailing, or blue water if you like.
czcams.com/video/z4pXceftkcs/video.html With some humor, I'm sharing the irony of having problems with enough power onboard while trying to finish my episode about why I don't believe in electric or so-called hybrid solutions. All this while waiting not only for better weather but also for the required inspection onboard from the immigration officers in Saumlaki, Indonesia I'm sharing some secret dreams about how I could add more solar panels on my yacht, and even showing you some design sketches. This would require a hard dodger or a combination with a hardtop on my yacht. But right now having enough power onboard to only edit and upload videos is a big challenge. It definitely puts the electric sailboat in perspective from the real world.
Looking good guys. I know everything is moving slow, but it's moving forward. 👍😎
Little by little right? We’ll get there! 🙌⛵️
This is nasty and gross. Forget sailing and the pollution that goes with it!
funny how you keep saying all the things "we" have to do... all I see is 1 person doing and the other standing around filming it
That is a lot of repairs. How much would it have cost to build a boat from scratch?
I fear thee beams might fall down due to them having such small overlap. I would personally try to fixate them with something. in regards to the tarp... I have an idea, whenever I help out with my dad we use this trick to secure tarps to rooftops. we screw two beams into one another so the tarp doesnt rip. Kindoff like this: - ____ - the small dashes being the beams. you could use this to make a nook in the middle of the tarp, then hang it using ropes to the metal beams. you could use something similar with the sides, making it a triangle thus giving you room to work around the boat. also without having the little pools of watter that'll likely leak. thats my two cents. hope it helps:D Love your journey, see you soon and keep up the good work :p
I'd be wary about using "food-grade" plastic hoses. Higher-end marine sanitation hoses, on the other hand, are designed to avoid permeation, that is, smells eventually transferring through the plastic.
