The Bargeman's Alphabet (ABC). A sea song, or shanty, from the Thames Sailing Barges. This version is mainly what Bob Roberts recorded on his album, Songs From the Sailing Barges. Some lines are from the Pin Mill Sailing Club version. There are others versions of course. Feel free to add the lyrics of any version you know in the comments. There are also many versions of the Sailors Alphabet, sa...
Mollymauk or Mollymawk - A Bob Watson Sea Song - Southern Ocean Shanty

MOLLYMAUK written by Bob Watson "Mollymauk" (or Mollymawk) is a species of albatross, The southern ocean is a lonely place Where the storms are many and the shelter's scarce Down upon the southern ocean sailing Down below Cape Horn On the restless water and the troublin' skies You can see that mollymauk wheel and fly Down upon the southern ocean sailing Down below Cape Horn Won't you ride the w...
Go To Sea No More - Sea Song - Shanty
zhlédnutí 417Před 4 lety
'Go To Sea No More' also known as 'Go To Sea Once More' A sea song, forebitter or shanty, known by sailors the world over. It probably originates from the British Merchant Navy. Like all these things, there are lots of versions, the true origins are unknown. There are strong links to the American gold rush of the mid 19th century. Sailors would make a one way passage to San Fransisco in search ...

Haul Boys Haul (also known as The Smacksman) When I was a schoolboy I stop at home with ease Now that I am a trawling man, I sail the wintry seas I thought I´d like seafaring life, it´s all right ´til I found It´s a damned sight worse than slavery when we got on the grounds Chorus: And it's haul, boys haul. Haul, boys haul Heave away the capstan, lads, and let´s get up the trawl When the winds ...

Well done that mate, RIP Doug
Hi
Scum vile river dirty muddy sewage poop of the river who in the right of mind would want to live on the river that is vile even people get sick if they even swallow it scum of a river
Thank you very much for this vidéo.
I lived in Clifford Way in a flat at this time. I was driving home from the hospital after a night shift Christmas morning and had to drive through flood water on the A229. I got to my flat and water was coming from everywhere, fast! Managed to grab some clothes and my cat and drive to my parents in aylesford before the road was completely submerged. It was the speed that the water rose that was the most frightening thing 😮
Nice film but awful music. Had to turn the sound off.
Motor boating not sailing. Such a disappointment.
Well he made it. Sometimes brute force is sufficient.
2:08 uiterton lowstoft
Quite amusing. This video, saying the conditions were ebb tide F4 NE, immediately autoplayed after I had watched the HM’s video saying best to enter on slack tide and never with an on-shore wind of F4 and above. Oops.
Beutifal video must try taking my Horizon 23 to the broads..normally stick to blackwater crouch orwell alde etc..
Just been looking for info on the 23 as I'm looking for my first boat. Learning to sail dinghy first ;) So 2022 will be when I'm ready to buy. That low bridge passing has convinced me of the 23 instead of 26. I'm also a long way from the sea so the ability to trailer the much lighter 23 is a good option.
Great rendition of my song . . . . words as I wrote them, sung at the tempo and with the phrasing that I had in mind when the song was first conceived. That can't be said for some of the versions that get heard around. So -- nice one, Mate, and many thanks. Should you care to sample any further Bob songs (not neccessarily maritime), gi's a message via watson.bob(at)tiscali.co.uk. Anyway, power to your elbow and keep up the good work! Best wishes, Bob Watson
big day for fans of this song! (the Southern Ocean officially recognized as the world’s 5th ocean, instead of the water around Antarctica being technically the Atlantic/Pacific/Indian)
Real southerners rise up 🇳🇿🇳🇿
Sea shanties are so calming at times... God bless and send more down the line
Two hrs later the same size sailboat made the trip in 17 seconds.
Massive effort with info.Hats off.Ya king of the seas.😀
From Kent and Essex to the Youngs brewery , still done by barge into the late 60’s. Zero pollution and no traffic. Two men per barge or sometimes a wife and kids. The smell of the mash so strong on a return trip the dockers on the aisle of grain knew you were coming before they could see you wind permitting. Progress 🤦🏻♂️
Beautiful views and beautiful music. We live at Herne Bay, but keep our gaff cutter on the River Deben in Suffolk and often sail to the Medway and Swale. Perhaps next year when life has - hopefully - settled down again!
Very interesting and informative, helpful to new sailors. Thank you!
Music to my ears! Some may say otherwise, but 4 Merlin's singing away is awesome.
Great Video i have a Hunter Horizon 23 also..sail Essec Coast based at Bradwell Hope to visit Broads soon.. Sailed a few times many years ago on Barton Broad in dinghy..
Great footage, it's nice to see everything from the Mate's view point, I look forward to seeing episodes 2 and 3.

Hi nice video looked alot of fun 👍
Nice video nice music ignore the thumbs down idiots
Superb and good music From Horizon 23 Owner...
Great vid ty for posting Regards
Great video. Back in the late 50's and early 60's I spent many happy weekends and school holidays roaming around the Medway Estuary from Gillingham down to Faversham on our bikes. Loved Faversham Creek, there was something kind of spooly about it, like we should not have been there as kids, lol. The part of your video at 1.21 where you say The Creek Comes Alive takes me back to the joy of getting to the Creek to see it full of water with craft moving on it. What is that " thing "next to the Kingsferry Lifting bridge, a new bridge ,or a black rainbow , lol ? I remember the old bridge , the one before the concrete monstrosity, it was always breaking down, we got there one Sunday evening as it was getting dark to find the bridge stuck in an upright position. Everyone that had been to the sea side for the day had to park and get a tug back to Gillingham Pier, and then grandfather had to go back the next day to get his car. Most exciting day we ever had out, lol, well all the kids thought so, the adults didn't, lol.
I REMEMBER THIS I WAS ONTOP OF A PUB BALCONY RESTRICTED BC OF THIS!!
Beautiful video.
Makes you think with all this ropework these were crewed by just 1 man & a boy.
Fantastic video. Would love to sail my yacht on the Thames..
what a marvelous place to sail - well done
Great video! Did you Left Lowestoft at Lowestoft LW?
great to watch normally done 1 man and his dog or wife tough wife and tough dog !!
Hi nice video :)
Hard work getting that in.
Really nice video, and great music!
I usually invade France in my 1970 vintage Pageant. Your video and inspired soundtrack has encouraged me to invade The Swale and Tames estuary! Thank you so much.
Damn... that will always be a Christmas to remember, good thing i live on higher ground on the western edge of town . Great video mate :)
Excellent video! very inspiring. Glad to see Im not the only one putting up videos!
just sailed up to the Medway from Brighton. Would have been more fun had i watched this first! Also drive past North East Kayaks (sponsors on your vid) frequently as have been working in Amble for a bit. Small, small, world, saltmarsh sailor!

3:20 my Alma Mater. So nice to see it again from on the water. Haven't been there since I left in 2000. I sure do miss that place. Thanks for the video. Question, do you get to sail on the Thames or are you mostly on motor?
niche video
it's great that you included times, nicely done
