Great Smoky Mountains National Park Clingmans Dome
#sectionhike #ATthruhike #backpacking
Day 4 in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park!
It only took me 2 years to get around to it. But I finally hiked to Clingmans Dome from the very bottom! And it only took 4 days to get there! I had a blast meeting so many new wonderful people on trail and being able to hike with them and hear there stories. It was a BEAUTIFUL day and since we got up there before the season started, Joy and I had Clingmans all to ourselves :)

3 Years? You probably have progressed quite a bit since then. As for that toe sizing do this. Put your toe to the front of the boot then try and put two fingers behind your heel. If you can, you got room for the toe at the front. To help keep your feet dry and keep out debris add gaitors.

Great review! I have a pair of Merrells that I bought in '08 and only now are they starting to show a wee bit of wear. While I don't hike (thanks to bad knees, hips, and back from 22 years of Army service), I've worn them in Canadian winter, south Texas summer, for yard work, riding and selling Harley-Davidsons, and everything in between. Over the years, they've been the most comfortable boots I own. Only now am I looking at buying a pair of Moab 3 Waterproofs. Thanks for the great review, you've definitely helped me make my decision to pick up another pair. Love your style, keep up the great work and be safe out there!

Pull out the midsole and put in a thinner one , to make more room in the toe box. I have 2 pair of moabs moab2 moab3. the 3 runs bigger. The water proof adds more stability in all the moabs. Merrell did a perfect collaboration with jeep and made the moab perfect! Metal hardware, better leather ect Those Merrrell moab jeeps are what I want next. If I can find them?

My only complaint over the years is that the TC5 Vibram they use on Moabs is not nearly as grippy as the newer shoes out there with Vibram Megagrip. Moabs are durable for sure, but on wet logs and roots and smooth surfaces the Moab just doesnt have grip.

Bought Merrell Accentor 3 gortex walking shoes , hoping they would last 6/9 months of walking 8/10 miles of countryside walking a day. Great grippy soles ,thou after 1 MONTH They let the water in when it was raining and the fabric started to peel. Exchanged for another pair, and once again, when it rains, my feet get damp. My heavy Meindl ex German army boots are still going strong , keep my feet dry and i would imagine i will still be wearing them in 3 years time.

I personally own 4 pairs of Meindl hiking boots. All have gore tex linings. What's a bt special with Meindl is that with every step, air is pumped from under your foot and around and up. My Meindl Kansas gtx never get too warm to wear, they are just as nice to wear in summer and winter.

I’ve been wearing a pair of Moab 2 waterproof 8 inch tactical boot for the last month and they are just as comfortable on track as they are for normal everyday use. I’ve found them great in wet areas and sweating hasn’t been an issue even in the heat of the Australian bush.

This was just the video I needed. Been trying to decide on a pair of Moabs based on waterproofing. I’m in a very rainy environment, but also sweat issues… the mesh ontop freaks me out looks like a sponge to collect water… based on this ima go with the “Dry” version (and get some 💦 repellent spray). Thanks again! 🙏🏻❤️👏🏻

At last i found a video on the different types of Merrell Moab boots 😁 Thanks for explaining the difference in the waterproof vs Gore-Tex Miranda. I've been looking to buy a decent pair of walking/hiking boots and I'm not exactly clued up with all the different brands or types of boots. I made a rookie error and bought a cheap pair of boots initially and my feet and ankles didn't thank me for my foolishness 🤦‍♂️ I went down the rabbit hole of trying to research the endless amount of walking boots on the market. Like yourself i heard that Merrell are a decent brand and set my sights on a pair of those and then there were all the different named Merrell boots and then more options of vented, Gore-Tex and waterproof 😳🤯😵‍💫 Your video has simplified it all within a few minutes and made my choice so much easier so thank you 😊 I'm a bit late to the party on this video due to the weird and wonderful algorithms of the strange world of CZcams 😄 You've earned yourself a subscription from me anyways 😊 Hope you're well and thanks from across the big pond over in the UK 🇬🇧☺️

I have only had my Moab speeds for a couple of days so far, but because I am an RN and work 12h shifts, I am a pretty good judge of shoes. Impressed with the Speed so far and will put them to the test working 48h over the next 5 days. I also ordered the ventilators and will be sending them back...the Speeds are much more comfortable/cushioned and light weight. FYI, I suggest ordering a half to a whole size larger depending on the thickness of socks you plan to wear or to allow for swelling. I wear compression socks every shift to help with swelling and ordered a half size larger. If I planned to wear with thicker socks, I would order a whole size larger.

Loved your two deer in the background with the turkeys. I love Merrell shoes. Bought my first pair (a set of two) about 6 years ago. I'm still wearing them. But just bought three more pair (all at discounted prices: a pair of Moab 2 Granite Hiking Shoes, a pair of Moab 2 Ventilator Men's Low Top Lace Up Hiking Shoes and a pair of Moab Speed Black Hiking Shoes), because though my older pairs are presently more comfortable (being well broken in), I have used them for work, so are looking worn. I'm also planning to get Moab 2 Mid Waterproof Hiking Boots, just to have a pair that have a higher top. But since I live in hot and humid Florida, not really into higher topped shoes or boots...plus I like to be able to just pull on my shoes rather than having to tie and untie my walking wear. The ONLY 'complaint' I would voice with the Merrell's are the fact that the laces - while cool looking and durable - the ones I have, have tended to loosen easier than other laces. But no real big deal. I have had Wolverine and Timberland, and like them both. But prefer the Merrell's.
