    This is a typical Andersen scam "deal". Whoever is buying this nonsense of a door needs to have his head examined. So whenever we have a summer storm I would rush to replace screen with glass and then back again. What a foolish design! You can bet that after few changes like that you will damage either "retainer strips" (what a buffoonery) or glass or screen. Great deal for Andersen to sell you more parts.

    Just had the same thing happen, where the liner wraps itself around the roller as the screen goes up, first time used!!! Pissed off at Home Depot and Andersen. Andersen says 3 weeks to get replacement part (the phone bank in India is very frustrating, purposely so I think), and I get the privilege of repairing a brand new door all by myself. As a DIY-er, I'm sure I can get it done, but why do I have to Home Depot is complicit; they deny returns after 90 days (had a con-man, con-tractor, who screwed everything up, and until I could get it all fixed, I couldn't install the door). HD said if I had used their card, or their installer, I could return it: why the Hell does it matter what card I used? A-holes. I'm tempted to take it down, and call them up to arrange installation, then when they see the broken screen liner, return it. Why shouldn't I? They play games with their customers even after 10's of thousands of dollars of business, over a $400 door. Lowes will be the only place I will buy things, including anytime I use a contractor. The flooring I bought at Home Depot? Going back. I'm done with them. They suck.

    I am very disappointed by these screen doors. Andresen should install these at the factory. The fact that they are not factory installed shows how difficult they are to install. Instead of pushing this onto the home owner (my contractor also did not want to install them), Andresen should install at the factory and find a better way to install. Andersen should stop using plastic hinges and flimsy rivets. Good quality hinges have been available for centuries! The aluminum of the door is so thin no fastener will work long term. In North part of the country everything gets ice. Why is the installer drilling holes when this would be much easier for a cnc drilling machine? Why aren’t bug strips installed at the factory? With multiple warnings not to overdrive rivets and over tighten screws, maybe these are not the best approach? How about all those warning not to drill holes through both sides? Is this just another example of bad design. When you are charging hundreds of dollars, we should not have to assemble ourselves.

    I agree with the comment below about the weatherstrip/side channels not easily being pressed in. More importantly the holes in the new screen pull were too small for the screws that were with the pull being replaced, even though there was an expectation that the old screws would be usable with the new hardware. Very frustrating!

    After struggling for hours and hurting his hands, my clever husband invented a tool for this. Its basically two short pieces of T&G flooring, approx 6" L and 9"L bolted together in a "T" shape. The short end of the T has the tongue facing up. Once you have placed and secured the top corner as instructed, you place the "tongue" of the short end in the groove and push slightly, and then tweak the long end of the T toward the jamb and push hard until you hear the "pop" you are desperately hoping for. Also silicone does help. If I could post a photo or video of this tool here I would. Good luck everyone!

    Is there any video before 1966? I think mine are from 1964. Also, the glass has a I-75 imprint...it could be 1, lower case "L for left or one" although left and right have "l" 75.

    Is it normal for my prairie parimeter internal grids in my double pane picture windows that are near an entrance door to have alot of play when shutting the door? They don't rattle against the glass but the definitely wiggle like spaghetti.

  • @dfspcc5221
    @dfspcc5221 Před 2 měsíci

    My parts were completely reversed at the sill from what is shown here, and the door in the video must be made of hollow plastic. The one I have weighs at least 60 lbs or so it seems. I lift weights and could not get the stationary panel in without help from another man. But it was good for showing the parts, they just weren't where you showed them to be.

    This is a very badly designed door/screen. It looks ungly like an early 70s style glass door with two panes. If you have a very nice front door, this will ruin the effect of having it look nice. The screen is held on with cheap, double sided tape that is prone to fail. Buy something other than anderson or renewal. They suck.

  • @marknowlin8356
    @marknowlin8356 Před 2 měsíci

    Going to pile on all the negative comments here. I change the door from glass to screen every spring, and from screen to glass every fall. It is a royal pain in the ass. Why? Because of these awful retainer strips. My best advice is wait until you are in a rotten mood to change the door. Because if you are in a good mood, the project will certainly reverse that. The glass is heavy, and I get a year older each fall. Screw the WD-40, the silicone spray, the screwdriver. The only tool that works at all is a claw hammer. Use the pounding face to install; use the claw end to remove. The instructions say explicitly: "Do NOT use a hammer!" What a joke. I don't know what I'm going to do this year. I've used duct tape, and besides being embarrassing and unsightly, it too is a pain to put on and take off. I think maybe a Velcro solution this year. Not sure exactly how yet, but Velcro solves almost everything. Velcro and strong magnets. Strong magnets with hooks on them are a must-have. Sorry, I'm veering away from the topic. Good luck.

    We bought 4 400 series Andersen replacement windows. Our installer went to install the first one , the springs in the jamb was in backwards. The remaining were the same.3500.00 dollars for this and got no help from customer service. My installer found a way to complete the job. You can not tilt the windows. Impossible. I would not recommend purchasing them.

    Spent big bucks on Andersen Coastal Impact windows for my custom built home. While the windows quality is just “ok”, I can say they great with keep outside noise from being annoying. However the screens are total crap and rotted in two years. RUST and PITTING Galore. Remember these windows are designed for coastal areas. Also the screens separate from the edge. Bottom line is it’s garbage. As for the warranty and guarantee’s -good luck on these windows is like having none. They’ll give you every reason why things aren’t covered. My defective double French door has been replaced and still leaks. Andersen said it is installed properly. I would never purchase or recommend Andersen products. I hate my $70,000 windows.

    just the worst. Storm door flies open in wind, no chain since the screen roll up blocks it. 5 yr warrenty so I pay. Broken closer and brackets so I ordered replacement. $42.00! Lots of screws but no instructions. I called customer service, foreign lady didn't speak English. sending an email with instructions. when I received it, no instructions, just parts list. began doing it on my own. 2 short hours later I sort of got it on. horrible product, no service, expensive, low quality. My lesson, never, ever buy anderson products. Its all advertising a cheap product.
