The Autism Constellation
What do you think of the subtle per-chapter background images I've tested in this video? Tell me in the comments!
I have grown from an autistic child who needed weekly lessons from a childhood psychiatrist in order to learn how to make eye contact, into an autistic adult who is flying high in an aeroplane made out of comprehensive coping mechanisms.
The way I have made sense of my life, is to find repeated patterns and groupings of traits, the same as we do for the night sky. There does appear to be a unifying autistic core trait, however, which surprised me:
Detail-oriented thinking.

    great video, but i dont fully understand how this can replace inheritance i am used to java, and il give an example of a data model in java - this is what minecraft does with entities they have a base entity class which is extended by non-living entites (such as dropped items) and also extended by a livingentity class which is extended by all of the types of living entities now i understand how these sort of types can be created, just using enums for all of the entity types - but i dont understand how you can replace the functionality within inheritance of being able to pass around an object as it's parent class and as its own class for example, there is a getEntities method on a world which can return all entities within the world in a collection and they are all given as type "Entity" - this allows you to get every entity and do something with them as if they were all just a normal entity class entity, but if you need the additional functionality of working with its actual type for its methods, you can check if it is of a specific type and if so cast it to that type (so you can go both backwards and forwards in inheritance between types). there will also be methods which could only return a LivingEntity, but because of inheritance they can still be casted to a normal entity or just use the normal entity methods directly i guess that you could have an entity implementation/struct with an enum for its type - but how do you manage the intermediary type (livingentity) and what if you only want to be able to pass around a specific type of entity, like if a function is specific to only returning or taking in a LivingEntityPlayer, i dont see how this is possible if everything is just an entity with composition and you cant backtrack to the original entity from its state values how would you achieve something similar without an OOP inheritance pattern? sorry if i overlooked something clear

    The way you work, the reasons, the systems. I would think to myself, yup, that’s what I’d do (with different programming language). Them I see this, including “detail oriented thinking” (a.k.a. Bottom up), and all the work to understand my own mind up to recent and ongoing work with neuropsychologist and answered “but I need to understand (details…)”, quizzical looks by people around me for reading academic papers on neurodivergence related topics. I actually automate to the maximum because I have around the worst possible executive function and working memory that I’ve learned a few months ago, in my fourties. I constantly write things in Markdown, scripts to do things for me. (Like I see you’re doing). TDD and package publishing of modules written in isolation helps me sleep at night, config management for servers to do service self healing, and the ambition to do front end, backend, and sysadmin. Definitely ADHD (also learned later in life). Autism is a recent hypothesis. Thanks for this!

Certain sounds in games started stuttering, and Cyberpunk was glitching really bad when I would turn the camera. I tried everything to fix it and it annoyed me a lot so I installed NixOS on another drive and spent the last two days getting all of my old configs working. Felt like learning Linux all over again and it was painful and great at the same time. Now I'm a NixOS fanboy hah.

    2:00 This doesn't really have much to do with this video, but this exemplifies the issue I've had for so many years whenever I've tried to learn coding. Let me show you what I see here: 1 1 error: expected one of ':', '@', or '|', found ')' 2 7 | fn hello(name) { 3 | ^ excepected one of ':', '@', or '|' 4 | 5 if this is a '[GIBBERISH]' [GIBBERISH], give it a [GIBBERISH]] name 6 | 7 7 | fn hello(self: name) { 8 | ++++ 9 | if this is a [GIBBERISH] name, give it a [GIBBERISH] 10 | 11 7 | fn hello(name: TypeName) { 12 | +++++++++ 13 | if this is a [GIBBERISH], explicitly ignore the [GIBBERISH] 14 | 15 7 | f hello(_: name) { 16 | ++ Every single time I've tried to find any resource, tutorial, guide, ANYTHING to learn any programming language it's just gibberish, gibberish, gibberish. Sometimes it's even gibberish presented in a way that makes it sound like the common meaning of the word, only for me to figure out a few sentences in that it's actually meant as programming gibberish. And it's never explained, you just get bombarded with gibberish after gibberish that you are somehow supposed to memorize despite it just being meaningless gibberish to you at that time. How am I supposed to remember something after it being mentioned once and then never explained at all or "explained" with more gibberish, creating a matryoshka doll of nested and branching gibberish being explained by more gibberish being explained by more gibberish being explained by more gibberish being explained by more gibberish . . . Every beginners guide or complete idiot's guide or video tutorial is the same. They don't go over the basic foundations, and what they present as the "basics" is actually at minimum of five branching steps away from the actual basics. It's like trying to learn a foreign language and every "utter beginner's" reasource for learning it assumes you already have a basic understanding of the language and its grammar, never explaining any of it. I have found a grand total of one, ONE, resource for learning ANY programming language that is actually any good. It's not even for a programming language I wanted to learn, but at least it's allowed me to get my foot in the door. That resource is Daniel Shiffman's (The Coding Train) tutorial video series for learning Java in the Processing environment. It's allowed me to get to the point that the issues I'm having come from me not understanding things correctly instead of it being because I just get gibberish thrown in my face.

    @djbozo3323 Před 5 dny

    The problem of Linux is that you have to cherry pick Linux-friendly hardware to have a smooth experience with it. Most hardware manufacturers, especially for peripherals, are not interested in making open source drivers. And sure, if you buy your whole setup with the intent of running Linux on it, that's not a problem, but most people already have stuff serving them perfectly well and don't want to have to buy a new one just to switch OS to another OS that will do the same job. Graphics cards aren't cheap, so you have a miserable experience with the subpar proprietary Nvidia driver on Linux and someone just tells you to buy AMD? I'm not gonna buy a new GPU because of the OS. You work with audio and you have an Universal Audio interface that not only offers perfectly good windows and mac support but also has an entire ecosystem of exclusive plugins? Well, it doesn't matter if you got good DAWs like reaper if you can't have proper support for your audio interface let alone your plugins. I imagine iLok plugins share the same fate. Of course, if all your tasks require only a computer and nothing more, and if all the software you need is on Linux, (like dev tools) then sure, it's great. And the problem with desktop PCs for devs is that in many companies you are supplied a laptop for work, and you have to use that because it's audited and whatnot. In other situations you simply don't have the space, or you just wanna be able to take your machine anywhere, work on the couch, on the living room, whatever. What I like to do is to have a beefy PC available to SSH into in case I really need 32 GB of ram and a hex-core desktop CPU, but do the actual work on a laptop. I prefer the form factor and honestly, they're just fast enough anyway.

    I've run into an issue with NixOS. I install usuing the GUI, on a clean wipe, and everything seems to work find for the install. Problem is that my config file (and everything else) is "read-only," and I don't have admin privileges to edit the files, install packages, or change read/write pernissions. I've reinstalled thrice now, and Googled for hours at this point. Am I missing something stuoid ovvious during install? Am i just fundamentally misunderstanding something about how NixOS works and how to install software on it? Any help would be much appreciated.

    For all of you interested in Linux, I’d suggest avoiding Ubuntu and using Arch. It’s a lot simpler to install things from the AUR rather than having to find the right repository that contains the thing you’re trying to install, Going through outdated guides, etc. Best of luck.
