Say, was MuchMusic Canada’s answer to MTV? Although there is an MTV Canada, but I digress.

    • @bastlake

Pretty much. A big distinction between the two was Much's equal emphasis on Canadian artists. Sounds obvious but pretty important throughout the 80s and 90s. They also spent time on journalistic programs analyzing Canadian artists, tours and music scenes. Rather than just repeating whatever MTV was up to.

Excellent! Glad to see this since alot of these access shows are lost now. Please see Stevie (Where's The Art host) on my CZcams channel & several more vids from these fun days under Willy Dodge right here on CZcams. I helped with Stevie do shows alot and was The Couch Potato among others on "Experiment One" the late night experimental/comedy weekly show that aired on T.C.I. Cable TV Public Access weekly in the 1980s & 90s. The Late Great Pat DeVries was the producer of Stevie's "Where's The Art" & "Experiment One". Both of these shows would NEVER have been on the air--and several more-- if Pat DeVries had not invited Stevie to at first do a video tour of Portland's celebrated annual "Art Quake" event & then later Pat suggested that Stevie should do a regular show on T.C.I. & inspired Tom Chandler, myself, Doug Leary, Billy Kennedy & several other folks to try new stuff out on cable channels 33 & 11. Stevie took Pat's advice, thank goodness! And the rest is now legendary Portland history. R.I.P. to our funny, talented, enthusiastic, encouraging, one-of-kind producer Pat DeVries at T.C.I. He even got paid to produce all of this. Love, William Dodge.

Cherry is absolutely right in his analysis that the league shoud have stepped in to help Pocklington pay Gretzky's salary. The NHL could have just looked at it as a loan that they would get back when the day came that pocklington would sell the team, a kind of NHL version of the 'Larry Bird exception ' ...of course other teams would gave probably whined and bitched about it but who cares, that Oilers team was a special team, and Gretzky was obviously a special player, but as Cherry insinuated the NHL was (and still is) run by idiots ...

Amazing to finally see this again after all these years. Though I've not followed hockey at all since the mid 90's; alongside my great youthful memories of my beloved Habs and even the Maple Leafs to a large measure, this victory for the Oilers formed the true capstone of celebration when it comes to cheering for a team over a course of one's sporting life. The Oilers were never my team, but like many hockey fans, respected in awe by all. As covered fully throughout the post-game interviews, the entire theme of this 1990 cup victory for the Oilers was about vindicating their greatness without Gretzky. Only those that lived in this area can understand what all had transpired with that Gretzky trade and what it did to the spirit of the game of hockey itself. Indeed, this fifth cup for the Oilers will forever remain their sweetest of all.
