    That piece was perfect and imparts a feeling of saddness and melancholy that was the Civil War. I live in the Mid Hudson Valley and know the Ashokan very well. It is curious that the Ashokan Reservoir was not created until the early 1900's. Why did Jay title it Ashokan Farewell? That is a question I always had since the first time I heard it in 1982.

      @@BillWardWesternLights I just read the Wikipedia entry. Thanks for pointing me toward it. Very interesting. When i was a graduate student at SUNY New Paltz, between 1972 and1974, it was a very peceful spot. Happy to hear it was transferred and is being preserved and used. Back in the day, it didn't get a lot of use, probably because of the distance from the college.
