This great observatory is 3km from the city of Jena, Germany. The 6m diameter dome hosts the 50cm F20 Cassegrain Telescope built by students at Carl Zeiss. What makes it unique is that the tracking system is fully mechanical and no power is needed. I have heard that if the system is calibrated right it is possible to reach 5min exposure times which is a challenge even for modern mounts. The obs...

I had an opportunity to visit the Tautenburg Observatory in Germany near Jena and made this video out of it. They have a 2m Schmidt telescope built by Carl Zeiss with a 1,34m Schmidt corrector plate that makes it the largest telescope of its kind. The telescope can operate in three different modes: Schmidt, Quasi-Cassegrain and Coudé. In the second part of this video you can see how the Schmidt...

In October 2012 the Tautenburg Observatory (Thüringer Landessternwarte Tautenburg) had their traditional Long Night of Stars (Lange Nacht der Sterne). They have one of the biggest telescopes in Germany which is also the biggest Schmidt Camera in the world having a primary mirror diameter of 2 meters. There is also a smaller automatic 30cm Schmidt Camera (TEST) which is used for extrasolar plane...

Hi, you did a nice work here! What kind of foam is it what you are using in min 11:45 for the lid? Thank you
Stunningly beautiful. A true craftsman. Congratulations on you fantastic achievement.
Why is it you need to play that annoying so called music
How come the kayak was one piece all around up until 4:08 and two halves when it goes to fiberglass??
because it wasn't in one piece - he built both halves at the same time on the mold, but the center line wasn't glued while putting the strips on and gluing them. He then separated the two halves off mold for fiber glassing individually. Once both halves were glassed, he joined them by taping the two halves together, and glassing the inside to hold the seam together - and then glassed the seam on the outside to finish the seam.
You know, it doesn’t get any better than that. What a beautiful accomplishment and you get to enjoy such beauty and peace padding your hand built gem.
Fabulous kayak! My build was roughly half those hours and diffeeencebis obvious. But there’s one mistake… never count the cost of such a build! 😅
Very beautiful work!
El.dato al final donde contás tu tiempo invertido es crucial, que buenísimo añadir el dato. El kayak está genial.
What a nice Kajak !😎 My congratulation. I have also build a Night Heron Strip Kajak and its a fun to paddle it. Kind regards

Какой вес в итоге вышел?
Байдарка, да ещё с грузовым отсеком это супер! Браво!
Thank YOU! Just EFFIN Gorgeous. Cheers to you!
It’s beautiful but I bet you wish it was about 3 inches wider on the bottom. It looks like it will flip very easily
Nice job man. But doesn't that suck to get in it without scratching it all up!
I'm still trying to understand how you merged both top and bottom seamlessly
Exquisite...no question this young man has an extraordinary eye for detail... This is Mastercraft...
gran trabajo!!! gracias por compartir tu arte!
Hi Alar, beautiful build! I'm currently building the Petrel design and I'm looking for a seat. Your's does look very nice. Could you share where you got it from? Greetings from Germany!
Hi! I also built this kayak in Germany. I got everything from Bergerboote. I checked the seats they have currently there but seems like the exact one I used is not there. Maybe you can ask them: www.bergerboote.de/shop/Sitze-&-R%C3%BCckenb%C3%A4nder-c2222002
@@SN2011fe Thank you for your reply, I'll get in touch with them. Btw your video was one of the reasons why I decided to build my kayak, so I'll send you pictures of the finished kayak! :)
@@eltabulatore3125 I'm very glad to hear that! :) Yes, please show your finished boat, will look awesome I'm sure!
@@SN2011fe @Allar Saviauk Sorry for the late reply, but things got in the way and I just now finished my kayak! I tried to send you a link of my onedrive folder where I uploaded some pictures, but it seems CZcams doesn't show comments that contain links. So here's a youtube video containing the pictures :) czcams.com/video/xd7HnIEOqHE/video.html&ab_channel=ElTabulatore Thanks again for the inspiration!
@@eltabulatore3125 Wow, very nice boat! Congratulations! :) You took the extra effort to lower the cockpit area as well. If my video helped you to get inspiration then the video was already worth it! 🙂Wish you great paddles!
This is a work of art.
Beautiful work! You have inspired me.
Great project! Can I ask how you've found the flush hatch arrangement - are they watertight when rolling etc? The plan I'm thinking of building uses rather ugly commercial hatches that spoil the lines - the Heron design is much more attractive!
Hi! I didn't manage to get the hatches completely watertight like this. I think if I would build a sea kayak for serious waves and rolls I would build in those commercial rubber hatches. They don't look great but they are working for sure.
@@SN2011fe Many thanks for the feedback! The build is for serious use so unless I can find a reliable wooden design I guess I should follow the plan and use the commercial option. Leaky hatches on an expedition would be no fun at all...
What a beautiful work of craftsmanship! As a prior owner of cedar strip craft (a late 1940s cedar strip lake boat) in the Lake Region of norther Minnesota, USA, North America, I not only love the craft themselves, but the relationship with the structure and spirit of the craft, and that of the water, the lakes, streams, and later the tidewater region of the eastern USA. The making of wood objects/entities is like deep meditation, or at least a highly Mindful state. And, it seems I also saw this in your video. So many thanks for sharing your experience and knowledge, and may you have many years of enjoyment with your craft!
All I can say is BEAUTIFUL.
Absolutely brilliant
This is a magnificent build! Well worth your time invested. What a trophy in the end.
Hey great job. I built the exact same boat about 10 years ago. Really a nice designed boat . My hats off to you and Nick Schade.
man it must have been torture taking a jigsaw to the already beautifully glassed deck to cut the storage hatches

Great job, also for recording the build for us to see how you did it and gain inspiration:) Thank you.
Fine craftsmanship!!
Why this video has so few views and 5 dislikes? Seriously, I don't understand why you shouldn't like it
I have made stained glass and been kayaking sunsets for 25 years...that is one of the nicest kayaks I have ever seen, bravo!!!

WOW!!!great job!なんてsexyなkayakなんでしょう! 自分も作ってみたいけどスペースが無いからなぁ。 羨ましいデス!
Beautiful workmanship and a huge commitment of time! Inspiring!
I see from your other video's that you have a sharp mind to go with your true excellence in craftsmanship. Very nice(unexpectedly high quality) build. Click on my green icon you might appreciate my 23rd build(outrageous materials& cool build). Fighting failing hips, but still hope to finish. Again masterful work Allar Saviauk.
