Nice seeing the RMAS vessels in the yellow/black colour. I worked at BUTEC in the mid-90s and was lucky enough to sail out to the weapons range on a few occasions to collect folk from submarines who were coming to the mainland for a run ashore. Got to sail up to Rona a few times too and was always happy to see puffins land on the deck!
Watched all three. Super stuff. Why don't we get programmes like this in 2024?
2.19 that strand has my admiration..its clearly underfunded, unsupported but its trying to the job of a entire fringe. Well played, British pluck right there. Fighting alone despite overwhelming odds.
WHY NOT INVENT A DRONE TORPEDO WHICH ACTS A ND SOUNDS LIKE THE SPECIFIC SUB AND USE IT AS DECOY TO FOOL THE ENEMY ! BUT CONTROLLED BY TH MOTHER SUB PATENT PENDING
Sigmas don't care if you think they have a personality or not

Fond of jabbing service personnel with God knows what even then
Brings back painful memories of the Admiralty Interview Board at Sultan which I disappointed at spectacularly.
The electronic music really dates this.

Badass documentary of a badass PCO course. You Poms did it right.
What a load of crap !
It’s too strict we’re it’s pathetic
did you read what you had typed before hitting <Return> ?
In the days when you were entertained and learned something on TV.....
My Father was an engineer on the missile guidance systems for Polaris and Trident from 64 to 97.
I served 9 years on submarine Warspite with 4 different captains. A stunning period in my life
The intro music is pure analog Heaven, and so brilliantly married to the video.
DONE !!!
Done
DONE!!!
Commander Cooke looks like the kind of guy I'd serve with. Intelligent, self aware, knows his job and keeps the necessary distance from his subordinates. The submarine achieves its mission, but he's not solely responsible. He's built a strong team to achieve objectives. When he talks about dipping below the layer you can see his concentration and assessing his team very intently. He has a look about him that I wouldn't mess with.
1240!
If you can't pretend to shot a ship America can
500 miles per hour at 250 feet - You would not crash you would atomise They have got to be slightly mad.
I wish they wouldn't say "it" when referring to a submarine (or a ship for that matter) the correct word to use is "she". And why is a ship called "she"? A ship is called a she because there is always a great deal of bustle around her; there is usually a gang of men about; she has a waist and stays; it takes a lot of paint to keep her good-looking; it is not the initial expense that breaks you, it is the upkeep; she can be all decked out; it takes an experienced man to handle her correctly; and without a man at the helm, she is absolutely uncontrollable. She shows her topsides, hides her bottom and, when coming into port, always heads for the buoys!
Fajny film
18:36 "Little Dubai."
19:59 it's been fifty odd years, but I remember a story of a businessman who disappeared in flight and was never found. It is thought that when he exited the toilet, instead of using the door through to the cabin, he shoved the outside door and fell out. He was known to be an impatient martinet, so this theory fits.
If I wanted to watch a docu about BLM I would've clicked on one.
When I was nine years old in 1976 I was at a very big air show. More than a million spectators. It was the 200 years celebrations for the independence of USA. It was at Mildenhall Airbase in England at the fourth of July 1976. Just 10 miles outside of Bury St. Edmonds. I remember it as the most incredible day in my life. The highlight was the B52 bombers. 8 engines with so much black smoke comming out of them. Imagine how cool that was for a nine year old! Still the best vacation of my life.
🙌🙌👏👏👍👍 thank you 😊😊
Outstanding job they did. Much Greatful for the upload 🙏🤲👍👍🙌🙌🇬🇧🇬🇧
Brilliant 👍👍✨✨🇬🇧🇬🇧 thank you
and to think that one of the deterrent patrols last year was 200+ days.
No sound
Thanks for putting this out there. I grew up watching similar programs in the USA when I was growing up, and modern media is utter trash in comparison.
Retired airline pilot here. The instructor (14:10 onwards) has completely the wrong attitude. He will demoralise the student and make learning more difficult than it needs to be.
I wonder how many viewers realise that 90% of such documentaries are filmed at harbour submarine is not at sea at all.
Im a retired commercial pilot having been in the game some 40 odd years. That instructor is simply the worst Ive seen... by a considerable margin...
Smoking inside submarine seems bonkers even for early 80s.
Thanks for posting a documentary that is actually interesting. I grew up and stuff like this. Much better than modern outputs.
The Bucc in the intro - I'm guessing the stbd outboard is an ECM pod? Could they carry an AIM-9 on the other outboard for self defence? Finally, would they carry a 'shape' in the bay, or under the wings, and fuel in the bay? Hopefully this isn't still secret squirrel stuff, I'm just curious :)
I sailed with CDR Evans, a very clever commander, and very hard to please. He was known as "Dasher Dia" and always went max speed everywhere.
captain Jonathan cooke sneaked under soviet air carrier Kiev to record its acoustic signature. a hell of a sailor and of a man!
We have a tanned Donald trump in this series
amazing stuff, enjoyed all the episodes, ty for uploading
plotting a bombing raid on 'Welsh Extremists' Plaid Cymru lol! Do you think the RAF have updated their mission sets since then??
You have to admire the attitude. Do you want to be 400ft below sea level in a metal tube surrounded by nuclear material and high explosives? Err, yeah. What's for dinner?
