    Thank you, I could actually follow you better and grasped how we can use this basic form that I think Jim Bruno said you can play anything if you know it.... I didnt count the bars but Michel Petrucciani used that one note thing for a good number and seemed like got the biggest applause for it... I like a recording where just he and his father played together guitarist

    Hey hey... I could do all this all day... haha and never play anything. You name it. Cool just going everywhere with major seven to minor 7 close together as possible or as far apart just shells and put the root in the middle... I usually get sidetracked from tunes doing stuff like that Now im doing the 4ths triads with the tritone proceeding eyes are crossing but its good, tricky moving a sharp 5 down when used to a perfect Kind of cool though to get in the tri and the 4ths in one..... Nice too with those 3rd/b6 min3rd/6th great posts as always

  • @pickinstone
    @pickinstone Před 5 dny

    Was just gonna say that playing triads isn't just a hardbop/postbop flavor--they are used all the time in bebop. Depending on how you play triads, you can open up odd groupings with your eighth notes and accents. There's a huge rhythmic element that is often ignored with playing triads, whether in patterns or triad pairs--things can get polymetric, but ya gotta know where that downbeat is at all times so you don't float off to sea. Anyways, Hersey the Jazz Dog better be on your next jazz album (maybe with the title "No Chocolate Candy Allowed" because that stuff is deadly for our doggos).

    The major triads around the cycle of 4ths is a Great Exercise for Guitarists! I will make a case for the creative potential of the 1-2-3-4 fingering exercise. The ③ ② ① strings at the same fret are a minor triad. The ④ ③ ② strings at the same fret are a major triad. The ④ ③ ② ① strings at the same fret are a minor 7th chord. The ⑤ ④ ③ ② strings at the same fret are a dom9sus4 chord. If a guitarist were to practice the “24 Permutations” of the 1-2-3-4 fingering exercise, they could (with some diligent patience and imagination) create some interesting chromatic approach and enclosure ideas surrounding these chord forms. Thank you for sharing your Excellent Playing and Teaching Expertise!

    This is definitely the way to practice, taking the idea through all 7 notes in the scale in all 12 keys, starting off basic with 3rds, triads, 7th chords then all the other intervals 4th, 5ths etc, then things like enclosures and pivot arpeggios. Then throw in Barry Harris’ chromatic scale and right there is pretty much all the jazz vocabulary practice you will ever need right? Did I miss anything?

    Hey glad you uploaded longer tuneage.... Yea if you are just going to play arrangements you may as well do classical if you are into that.....figured out a new thing for me that was pretty cool that minor a tri tone away spelled out some alterations for a dominant so you could do a pedal note and take the other minor that is almost totally the dominant and run it down through other minor to the other 9 chord with the 5 on top that is like a half dim sounds good ... sounded like a clifford brown thing
