In Australia (Brisbane) we pay around 8x more than what the energy retailers pay us for electricity. Storing the energy you produce and using it yourself just makes sense!!

I have two franklin batteries with a 7000w gas invertor/generator for double redundancy. 10.2 KW solar system. Hot tub, pool, tesla, and 3.5 ton AC and my system is about 80% of my annual electric needs. Live in Marin County, Northern CA. Last year used 14,000 kwh, and produced 12,000 kwh. And PGE jacked up electricity rates 22% in Jan. I am on NEM 2.0.

Your utility bills make sense to get some type of system as an offset or off grid. In SC we run off nuclear and it is dirt cheap, highest with two AC units is $500 for a couple months, otherwise Gas and Elec are a couple hundred max per month. I went with Signature Solar EG4 self install system, under $15K total, have 30KWH batteries, 12KW inverter and can run everything but that second AC unit. I need 15KWH batteries and another 6KW inverter and I am off grid. It definitely helped that I built an RV van with 9KWH batteries and 700W solar to practice everything first. The hardest part is wiring the second load box in line with the original main box....your setup/software is superior to mine, but I can run the house on the worst day of the year worst case, but for many days without sun for everything but AC. The LiPoh chem is unbelievable, huge loads and charging capabilities, much higher than the MPPT can handle. The real problems are when you try and charge those car 50-100 kwh Batteries, 3-5x the typical CA home!

Why did you go with 2 batteries? We got a quote from our installer and he recommended 1. Was wondering if I should increase it to 2 since we have 2 EVs. Thanks.

Does it work automatically or do you have to manually turn everything on and off?

I have two FranklinWH batteries and they have been solid for us. The only negative is they use some power to stay warm when temperatures drop below 35F as they have to heat the batteries as they are mounted outside like yours.

I'm not an accountant, from what I remember, you could only take the tax credit for solar one time on your primary residence. The infrastructure bill that passed changed that. Now, you can take the tax credit for solar and batteries as many times as you want. So adding more solar and more batteries can be part of your tax savings plan by maximing your tax credits on a yearly basis. I also went through the 300% rate increase that SDG&E did. I just replaced my 22 year old gas furnaces with a dual fuel heat pump system. I have not used any natural gas since I did that. And, I can make it until 5 AM in the morning taking power from my batteries while heating my house all night.

I just got these installed. You can only control them with a phone app and the app is trash. You can't pull power from the grid when the rates are low.

Take those batteries down before a thermal runaway burns down your entire neighborhood! There are multiple good reasons why you shouldn't turn your home into a power plant! Storing pure energy is dangerous! Even experts with government funded safety measures get it wrong sometimes! Seriously! Do yourself and your neighbors a big favor and don't risk your lives!

$80K for batteries and solar is a pretty big capital cost to replace grid electricity. You'd certainly be paying a much higher rate than what I would pay for my local electricity. This is pretty unaffordable for most of the middle class.

He really shouldn't call them MilSpec, that's a very high level of rating. Stick with calling them Industrial grade, which is clearly higher than consumer grade but not generally as high as MilSpec.

$80K+ for batteries? You live in a city, how often does the grid go down? I use 4 Trojan 225 ah lead batteries with a 120v 2000 watt inverter to supply power to 85% of the circuits of my home 100% of the time and a 240v 4000watt inverter for the rest of my home/property that I use in the daytime. I have around 10,000 watts of panels and 8 Victron charge controllers. The manufacturers lie and I get about 60% of that power at noon in July from the panels. My power bill is down 90% of what it was before the solar stuff. No grid tie inverters, as I have the battery inverter systems totally separate from the grid via manual transfer switches; yes, it is a strain on the fingers. I live in the CA foothills where power outages occur 1 to 2 weeks a year so my system works great in that I do not have to run my generator very often. I usually test run the generator at load more than I use it. Power was not run to my grandfather's farm until the early 1950s. I would be ashamed to brag about having to need what you have considering your environment. This video shows the gluttony of our society.

Any conflict of interest to declare? Complete grid disconnection is required to remove corporate profiteering and theft at a time when only everyone connected together can we transition rapidly to cheaper power sources and drop prices.

Im in fl live off grid, use 25,000 kwhs a year 😂. I have 36kw of solar and 140KWH nmc (tesla car modules) i use the generator 3-4 times a year in oct - Dec Ditching the utility company is possible if you can afford it.

I'm seeing in the manuals that the Franklin is 60 Hz but I'm seeing that in Australia grid is 50 Hz. Does the Franklin WH compatible with 50 Hz grid??
