Tadpoles - Field Recording using JrF D series Hydrophone
zhlédnutí 214Před 3 měsíci
Testing my new JrF Hyrdrophones and I was lucky enough to be able to capture these tadpoles - I think what you can hear is the tadpoles eating. Unfortunately the camera footage was corrupt - salvaged what I could but it is considerably shorter than the audio recording.

Arches (Electroacoustic Composition)
zhlédnutí 8Před rokem
Arches is a composition created through the use various sounds produced through the manipulation and digital processing of manmade items consisting of metal, plastic and glass materials. The piece focuses on using these manmade objects to explore the musical structure of the arch, each section of music becoming tenser than that which preceded it. The formal structure of the piece presents itsel...
Vesusius in Eruption (Electroacoustic Composition)
zhlédnutí 9Před rokem
A composition for the Sounding Images 2017 exhibition at the Barber Instutue, Birmingham UK. Programme notes: A sonic depiction of the memories Wright drew upon to create the painting Vesuvius in Eruption. The piece makes use of both digitally processed and unprocessed field recordings and studio recordings to guide the listener through Wright's memories of the journey to Vesuvius, representing...
[Gen]dy-licious (Algorithmic composition)
zhlédnutí 18Před rokem
Inspired by Xenakis, this piece explores chaos through synthesis. Noise moves throughout sonic space in a seemingly random fashion, yet every pitch is part of an algorithm. A study exploring sounds created using the GENDY UGens in SuperCollider. Sounds were recorded out of SuperCollider then assembled in Reaper with a bit of EQ and automation. Composed in 2017 as part of my undergraduate studie...
Abstract Images of a Guitar (Electroacoustic composition)
zhlédnutí 10Před rokem
The piece conjures the image of a musician trying to grasp a piece, deconstructing the work and looking specifically at the various aspects of music. The musician only manages to create a convincing performance of the work by the final section where all aspects are combined. This form was also inspired by the traditional structure of classical music, presenting various ideas and themes which re...
Rivière Métallique (Electroacoustic composition)
zhlédnutí 14Před rokem
Sonic streams pass through the air like water. A river of gestures and textures created from metallic objects. In this short study, the resonant nature of metals creates long drones and rushing granular textures. This piece began life in 2018 as an exploration of the timbre of metallic objects and was finally completed in January 2023. The video is created using Sonic Visualiser.

Is the Pathfinder 10 good enough for practising at home? Having tested it, I think that the clean tones can sound really nice - particularly with a strat. The amp is a great tool for teaching. Out of Focus: Baggeridge Country Park (A field recording created with Zoom H4n & Nikon D3300)
zhlédnutí 168Před 7 lety
A field recording captured on a rainy morning in Dudley, West Midlands. The visuals are intentionally out of focus to portray the way in which the rain obscures other sounds of nature (and even manmade sounds) by creating a level of broadband noise. Without the rain, the soundscape would have been very different. The recording was captured with a Zoom H4n and a Nikon D3300 with the Nikkor 55-20...

Wow! I didn’t know tadpoles makes so much noise- fantastic! In Norwegian we call’em Rumpetroll :)
Perfect review.....this is how it should be done! Blessings to you!!!
They get the job done..on three of my guitars
Did you have to drill new holes on the guitar for the tuners? I've been thinking of getting Gotoh SD90s on my Epiphone SG too, but I don't want new holes to be drilled just for the tuners. Thanks!
Love your jazzy clean demo. I get annoyed when others demo "clean" sounds and insist on adding a bunch of effects to smother it. I would like to know how it sounds with a Tele.
The Zoom H4n sounds cleaner and crispier.
Putting winds on the pegs completely negates every positive aspect of locking tuners. Pull it through with no slack, screw it down (that's the locking part), and tune it up. All your tuning stability comes from the lack of winds. You might as well use standard tuners otherwise.
jesus soo much nopise floor
Mine arrived today... kinda impressed with the quality of the cleans and the amplitude of sound itself. This is definitely worth it.
¿Estás usando un SoftBox amigo?
Hi Alex thankyou , I'd forgotten the piece over the years. The sound seems great, can I use zoom for sound any phone with camera for video What is good software for a PC too edit. You can see I have no idea on recording but advanced player
Very nice micing done..close and room.. every reviewer should learn from You 5/5 !
Wht the kind of guitar you using ?
It's a MIM Strat with some Seymour Duncan SSL pickups (can't remember which model exactly). Nothing too expensive!
I've found time, and time again for the Roland R-05 to provide a more roomy, and clear sound that can be almost discerned by distance, and the space it is in. I guess they don't make 'em like they used to. Could've continued but when it was released, it was a little late, given the not so good predecessors before it, in the R line. 11 Years later, and it still outperforms my LG V60's Quad DAC specially catered for music. Whether it's recording, or playback. I am keeping my R-05 close. Currently using it as a MIC/Recorder/External DAP. The functions, and interface may be getting old. But the quality is hard to forget, and spectacular to come back to everytime.
I see there are two inputs so does that mean I’m able to use my acoustic guitar and mic?
the second one is an output
I'm just waiting for mine to be delivered.Itll be here any day.
I hope you enjoy it!
@@alindsayfieldrecording I love it it's perfect for where I am and it's a proper solid piece of kit
where can i get these tuners?
These tuners are better than the stock grovers?
The original tuners weren't Grover as far as I'm aware. Might be the case for newer epiphones.
Hi ,thanks for your video. Could you please guide me, iam hesitate about marshal mg10 amp and vox, witch one is better what is their negative and possitive points.thanks alot.
I'm afraid I haven't tried the MG10 since I was a kid, couldn't really comment on how good it is. Maybe try them out in a shop when it's safe to do so!
I think this is better if you're looking for a more vintage British tone for playing 60s stuff like the Beatles, The Who, etc. If you want more hard rock/metal tones, pick the MG10 if you're a beginner. However, I would recommend going straight to tube amps - get a Fender Bassbreaker 007 with a 10 inch cabinet (put a WGS Green Beret in there) and you're good to go for learning for several years. You would need some pedals for that though.
Did the guitar start sounding better after tuners replacement?
It hasn't really affected the tone, but the tuning stability and accuracy are much better now.
Can u do more distortion demos? thanks! we like your sound . It's a little bit SRV-ish. yeah
Haven't had chance to do much due to a house move... Will see what I can do in the next few months
bei beiden Aufnahmen dröhnende Bässe. Teppichboden und Plüschmöbel sind das letzte Interieur um klass. Git. aufzunehmen. Anschlag und Rhytmus sind leider auch sehr gewöhnungsbedürftig.....
Two questions: Why does it go quiet with the pedal? And would you record with this professionally?
Thanks for commenting. I suspect the "level" parameter on my tubescreamer was set too low - my bad! I don't think I'd use it professionally as the speaker is small and offers limited low frequency response.
@@alindsayfieldrecording Thanks! That's what I thought. I hear conflicting reports and my own ear experience is conflicting, so I just wondered. Some people really like it, but I don't hear people say they'd use it professionally.
Is it my imagination or do Pathfinders sound better than AC4's and AC10s?
I haven't tried the AC4/AC10 but I can't complain with the Pathfinder's clean channel for a budget amp!
@@alindsayfieldrecording Cool! I like what I hear of these more than some AC4 and AC10 and 15 tests tbh.
That little recorder does great with guitar but not so much with vocals, so I find. Not bad, just not quite as good .
Thanks for making this video I have a Les Paul that needs new tuners as well, how are they working out for you ? I have seen these available online and pretty cheap too $45 or so , I don'twant to drill or ream the headstock so these are my first choice so far .
Thanks for watching! These are great, much better than the original Epiphone ones.
@@alindsayfieldrecording do they hold tune well?
Yes they do hold their tuning well. There are still issues with the G sometimes, but that's because of the angle of the headstock.
What is the ratio? If they are 18:1, then I'm sold.
Does it make noise?
The drive channel is quite noisy, yes. The clean channel is good though.
Souns good, beautiful video
Wow, I thought of getting the Boss Katana Mini, but seeing that this can handle Heavy metal, looks like it may be a good idea to buy this instead! (It's cheaper)
I'd definitely recommend a pedal for the drive in that case!
Cool, guitar looks very nice
Thanks for watching! It's a great guitar, still having issues with getting the setup right sadly, I think I might have a couple of uneven frets. Nothing a bit of work won't sort.
The way a amp review should be done. Great work!
Thanks for this
Glad I could help!
Which recorder are you using?
@@alindsayfieldrecording Thank you, exactly the recorder I use.
Hi Alex, I realize that you shot this yonks ago but I was wondering if you used an external mic?
Just the built in mics on the zoom.
@@alindsayfieldrecording thanks for your response!👍 Did you use any particular settings? It sounds ace.
@@MacJames I can't remember the exact settings - it was the first time I was using it! I suspect that the mics were positioned at 90 degrees (rather than 120), and I just set levels and hit record. Hope that helps!
@@alindsayfieldrecording cheers for that. I'll just give in and give it a go. Tx! 👍
Very nice.
Hello This microphone has a great sound but i can hear some "handling noises" Maybe a better shockmount will help ... Thanks
Hi! Which deadcat are you using with this mic?
Tarek64 luckily the Rycote windjammer I purchased for my Zoom H4n's built-in mics fits of this perfectly. Most places in the UK sell it for £35 so it's a bit expensive for a mic that doesn't cost much more than that. Great if you already have one though!
Thank you so much for the quick reply :D I will definitely check this one out!
Hi, iam not that experienced. Why it is not suitable for ambient recording? What would be better with an external preamp?
In my opinion, the gain of the preamps is having to be pushed too high to capture the quieter sounds, meaning that a lot of hissing/noise is introduced to the signal. Adding an external pre (or using a portable recorder with a lower noise floor) would help produce a cleaner recording. Hope that makes sense!
Nice piece, nicely played. What is it, please? And great demo. Thx.
Thank you for your comment. Most people refer to this as Prelude in Dm. It is the Prelude from S. L. Weiss' Sonata No. 34.

Mark D It's a great piece to play through!
