    thanks for this good report, that was the best analysis i heard so far to the titan disaster, and i feel sorry for all the serious submarine builders which expertise is brought into question by some yahoo. i cannot understand how anyone could consider that fellow as a serious engineer (at least in diving). a vacuum vessel (which a submarine technically is) needs more than 10 times the wall thickness than a pressure vessel. and that under atmospheric conditions. i'm not a submarine expert, but i don't know of any diving container for humans that can go down 4000m and is not a perfect sphere anyway. ask james cameron, he knows, or at least listened to the experts..... if anyone is in cherbourgh, france, there is a very nice submarine museum in the harbor with loads of deep sea vessels, aquarium, a titanic section and much more.

      I worked for 5 years as a Composite Engineer at the German Aerospace Center and I would not build a Submersible using CFRP, it is not made for such applications, CFRP is great for thin-walled structures but not for thick-walled or solid structures. I think titanium is the better material for deep sea application

    The shear reinforcement area is adequate if you consider member 11 intersects the construction joint at 32 deg. thus significantly increasing the longitudinal rebar's contribution. The nodal block reinforcement also contributes to the total, not to mention misc. interaction with some member 12 rebar as member 11's force distribution broadens through the nodal block. David can't help you here.

    Presto! Strawberry Jelly! Water makes for a fantastic explosive lens. 1000kg of TNT (a blast in a confined space) with pressure waves bouncing back and forth inside that pocket of air (sans pressure hull) with the water compressing the bubble further and further every microsecond.. I doubt there is a better demonstration of the word disintegrate. It may be that only the hardest parts of their bodies survived. Perhaps some teeth or fragments of tooth enamel was ejected as exhaust within the first few compressions (in microseconds). Anything else with lower ignition thread holds would have been smoked and converted to ash. That blast or implosive force had nowhere outward to go surrounded by water, you need the gravity of a star to compress liquids and so there would be no yielding. Imagine that 1000kg TNT blast video shown here, instead being forced or confined into the volume of a minivan, ever shrinking in size to that of a body bag. Finally, the cavitation converted to tiny bubbles of carbon monoxide, cremated human remains and detris such as plastic and metal ash raining down all over the wreck site. I wouldn't wish this on my worse enemy, as they would never suffer

    I think the piece his design team missed, was analyzing the low cycle fatigue limits through a properly modeled finite element simulation. Which would have required product testing to establish conservative material properties, based on the haul manufacturing.

    CFRP also _fatigues_ more in than Titanium. So the Titan did fine for about 50 dives, as they ignored all the stress on the hull. Then the last time-- CRUSH.

    This video starte.d with a plea for money from a well known children's hospital on my phone...I gave to the charity...my info was promptly sold elsewhere...I received over 60 different beggers in the mail several times each..it has taken me months to slow it down and my time and money...I now only donate to one or two and only anonamously...watch out...😢
