    I came here bc we lost our son to a brain aneurysm. I can't remember parts of the day including when the doctors showed us his brain scan. I'm told i was there and i remember parts of that day but i can't remember that snippet of the day. Probably a good thing it's blocked. I feel better knowing how much goes into the accurate confirmation of brain death. Doesn't bring my son back but i know there was no shadow of a doubt.

    I am undergoing evaluation for liver transplant and a lot are rejected. I might be rejected because I have past surgeries for hernias with wire mesh, a right hemicolectomy as well as having a big clot blocking my portal vein. Calcium throughout my heart and veins near my spleen. I have a 895 calcium score around my heart. Be straight up with me, they are probably not going to accept me for transplant. It's a shame because I like being alive?

This terrifies me because I feel you check in and don't check out. I'm worried about complications ventilators can cause. Are there different types of ventilators? It may not be the same as what I'm thinking. Could you clarify my concerns so I'll know what questions to ask.

    I would like to see all airports across the US build a doctors' office inside of the airport. Sometimes, these medical emergencies are unpredictable but sometimes they aren't and the airline staff (who aren't medical professionals) are not always able to reason with these passengers and their families as to why they shouldn't board the plane due to their medical conditions. Often times, these people who are unreasonable end up having an emergency medical problem on the plane and it disrupts not only the passenger in critical condition but the other passengers as well.

    My mom ended up in a vegetative state and on life support a few months ago, I noticed tears falling from her eyes only after the decision to take her off life support was made. Even though the chance was slim I still feel like if she was given more time she would’ve pulled through. She was a fighter like no other, and she continued fighting for over half an hour after being taken off life support. She didn’t take her final breath until I told her it was ok, that she didn’t have to suffer anymore, and that I loved her. One final tear fell down her face as she took her final breath. People have recovered from her exact scenario but she would’ve needed more time. I know it’s selfish but I begged for her to be monitored for one more day. I wanted to wait until she had no brain activity or until her heart stopped on its own, so I would at least have the comfort of knowing that there wasn’t a chance of recovery. I knew her better than anyone and she always told me that, and I know damn well she wasn’t ready to go that day, she wanted to keep fighting, and my god did she try. I just turned 17 this month, my dad passed away when I was 10.

    Although his family never said what his cause of death was, an ex of mine began acting very confused and angry on Facebook. He had posted that he needed a liver transplant, and that he’d lost a severe amount of weight. Also said he’d had problems walking. Later photos revealed a dramatic change in appearance too. He looked like he’d aged 50 years. He’d been a heavy drinker when I was with him so I can only assume he had cirrhosis caused by alcoholism. He’d written to me shortly before he died, claiming he’d come all the way to Hawaii to see me and was buying a house here. Never saw him because he Stayed two nights and left, or so he claimed. It seemed so far fetched I was forced to conclude that he was experiencing severe confusion from his liver disease. RIP, it was probably an awful way to go.

    My mom got ARDS last year after blood transfusions. She was in the ICU for 3 weeks and she survived. Her lungs are damaged and she uses oxygen at home, but sometimes she forgets to use the oxygen and her Spo2 goes down to 73% which is too low. A year later she is now back in the ICU because of aspiration pneumonia. She is 80 years old, and she was a heavy smoker for many many years although she has not smoked in the last year. Have you seen ARDS in the same patient twice?

    Brain death is not real death, it was made up solely for live organ harvesting without full general anesthesia! Also othe aponea test, its sole purpose it to inflict sevear brain dammage as it does do so, by suffication, taking away or making much less likley of a full or reasonable recovery to happen.

    I wonder why my G.I. doctor told me that a person could live for at least 15 years after the diagnosis of cirrhosis of liver. I was diagnosed in june of 2023. My meld score is above 4, ist stage compensated. Non alcohol. I did drink heavy off and on, on weekends only for about 22 years. I havent touched alcohol for 22 years. My liver functions as alt and ast were always normal until 6 years ago. I have had fatty liver for the last 20 years, they think thats what caused the cirrhosis. They never told me that fatty liver to turn to cirrhosis way back 20 years ago? I'm 64, diabetic and some autoimmune disease. Right now im noy too bad, I get tired very easy and sometimes so.e swelling in just my left leg. I have mild portal hypertension, im on a low dose betablocker, and a B.P. pill.

    I remember googling statistics like this a couple of years ago and the survival rate to discharge for in hospital cardiac arrests was like 20%. And only like 12% of people survived for even one year. Is it actually possible for a heart to completely heal and a surviours have a normal life span if for example, the reason was a drug overdose, drowning, electrocution, a temporay illness or injury in someone who was previously and otherwise healthy? Or will a cardiac arrest pretty much always eventually be a premature death sentence? I'm curious because a friend of my mum's friend has a child who almost drowned, but was saved by CPR, and I know of a couple of (young) people who have been brought back after suicide attempts. I can't for the life of me find it now, despite looking before making this comment, but I also remember seeing a page which showed the % of surviours who were still alive after 1, 2, 5, 10 and 15 years of their cardiac arrest and it kept getting lower every year it showed. :(

    Thanks for a very informative video! I received a liver transplant almost 3 years ago. I had NAFLD, Hemochromatosis and Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency. By the time I was diagnosed, I had cirrhosis, varices and hepatic encephalopathy. I managed my symptoms and underwent therapeutic phlebotomy, but the damage was done. Finally, a hepatocellular carcinoma was discovered, and I was evaluated for transplant. I was placed on the list and received a new liver 28 days later - after two false alarms. The third time was the charm. For those who are suffering from liver disease, I want to tell you to listen to your doctors, don’t ignore symptoms, and pray. You, too can get a second chance at life.

    My sister is on day 5 they removed everything except the IV drip of morphine. She is still here. She responds by opening her eyes when her name is called. I asked the nurse; “if her blood pressure is good, her kidneys are good, heart rate and breathing are steady, what will she die if?” The nurse replied, “Starvation”. If I starved a dog to death I’d be in prison. I really hate not being able to say what I see in the ending of my sister’s life. What I will say is that if even one family member is not on the same accord - listen to them, hear them out and allow others to join in a mature conversation. My sister is fighting for her ice after surviving cardiac arrest, pneumonia following aspiration, serious infections, the list goes on. And I feel her reward is starvation. Very hard to watch. Be open minded in Family conversations, there is no room for self pride in this process. God bless all who are looking for support

    Just out of curiousity if someone were to have a sudden allergic reaction that resulted in something like anaphylaxis, and they were over the Atlantic where turning around might not be an option. Do they have enough supplies to stabilize someone or reverse the anaphylaxis until they can land which can be several hours?

    • @davidnguyen7747
      @davidnguyen7747 Před 3 měsíci

      It depends on the sign and symptoms of the patient. If the patient is stable and doing okay with the first dose of Epi and Benadryl, then I would monitor that patient for the next few hours until we land, but if the pt airway, breathing, or circulation is compromised and that first Epi didn't help much in 10 mins or so, I would want to land asap and tell them to have an ambulance standby when we land. At the mean time, give the second dose of Epi, try some bronchodilator as needed, and watch that patient like a hawk.
