Neat plane...
I remember filing them on the USS Nimitz in the late 70s it took about 1 hour and you had have a special power unit to fuel the aircraft

I never flew a plane, but I can see through the eyes of this producer , fotos, music and all what he sees and feels. Otherwise there would be no reason for this at all, so thanks for sharing, it’s like I was kinda there with you. 😊
John Vinson was a great pilot
Rare to see that many whalers in formation!🤔 Jman
Spent a lot of time in the “hell hole “ of the EKA3B during the Viet Nam war.
My dad was a Navigator on the A3-D
I knew Douglas Test Pilot "QB" Quinten Burden. He was the first to break the sound barrier in an A3-D.
I remember this day vividly. I had to see the Flight Surgeon to drop off some of my medical records from the Naval Hospital Rota. Anyways I stuck around for the show and the duty driver drove me off base to my apartment near red square. I remember Lt. Mathews since I worked for him! Thanks for sharing! My kids will get a kick out of this for sure. It has a Top Gun feel and sound to it for sure! ✌🏽
Awesome! I got a headache just listening to those engines run. 😳🤣 Worked in Maintenance Control 87-90 and remembered the smell of JP-5 almost daily. Especially during high power turns. I also remember Chief Herndon, Stoos, Baña & a few others as well! Let me just add that I thank you for sharing this. I finally got a chance to share what this place looked like with my wife and children. Something they’ve only heard about since I never took pictures past the security booth at the entrance to the flight line.
This is Chief Herndon what’s your name?
@@johnherndon9818 Hello Chief John Herndon. My name is David Cordero. I was an AZ and worked with Stoos, Baña, and others in Maintenance Control with Log Books & the office behind with CWO McPherson, Lt. Mathews & Lt Cmdr Vinson. I remember you vividly coming in to Maintenance Control to read the logbooks and talk with others. It’s ok if you don’t remember me. I was just an 18 year old kid trying to find my way and having a blast in Spain and other places during my time overseas. Plus I was only there for a few years. I hope your doing well and thank you for sharing this and other things related to VQ-2 Rota, Spain. It’s definitely hit a special place in my heart for sure.
I remember you I’ve talked to you before, didn’t you get hit by a car or stabbed?
@@johnherndon9818 🤔🤣 Yes I was hit by a vehicle outside the front gate while riding my bike to the squadron one night. The lengths some will go to spend the summer of 1989 on the beach in Rota eh? 😜 Considering I was only 18 when I joined the Navy and had only been in maybe 6-7 months before arriving in Spain I was like a sponge. I just wanted to thank you and all those senior leadership men who I worked alongside during this time. I respected you guys immensely and you, whether you knew it or not, helped shape me into the man I am today. Even if it was only a few years. So again thank you! ✌🏽 What year did you join the Navy? Just curious is all!
@@johnherndon9818 John I am curious if there are VQ-2 charities or other organizations connected to the VQ-2 community that help others? Thank you.
Tracking! TRACKING😂
Too much music. We don't get to hear J57's enpugh as it is.
Electronic warfare third seat, 1968 Pacific missile Range Point Mugu.
How do you change the reel chain
Yes, but what does this aircraft do to promote racial equity for transdendered Inuits? We have to have priorities people!
I always thought these things were sexy as hell. Just a cool jet. Very capable for it's size. It only seems big compared to the other planes at the time. It's not that big.
This video was very helpful to me. I replaced all 4 chains on my Trucut H-20. I lined up the original chain to the new chain to cut the chain to length using a hand held chain breaker.
Worked as plane captain with VAQ-131 onboard USS Kitty Hawk in 68-69 West Pac.
Good video , too bad you had to ruin it with that teeny bopper Bon Jovi shit
Best memories I have is flying the EA-3B in Rota, Spain. I enjoyed everyone in the squadron and grateful to be able to cruise on the Saratoga
John, for the life of me can’t remember what happens to the launch cable around the shuttle
Served in VAH-4 at Whidby Island from Jan 1958 to Oct 1961 and did three cruises on Essex class carriers. Loved the duty and the aircraft (A3D's) and spent many hours removing and re-installing radar antennas during FMLP flights from home base that other base near NAS Whidby. Rate was AQB and spent many hours trying to assist bombing gear training for officers just out of classes. Loved the duty and very nearly ru-uped. Still love flight and aircraft.
Father was operations officer Whidby Is. Lived in a log house, later converted into officers club. House located on a 200 foot bluff just under flight landing pattern. A-3s have 🎉a loud jet engine whistle as they approached and took off. My dog would chase them and all the pilots would fly just above bluff to watch dog run. Clover valley elementary graduate. Joined Navy flew 3 seat as A/C member.❤
Hola , muy bien tus videos soy de chipiona , andalucia e visto k pertenecias a QV2, llego a mis manos una vieja herrammienta blackhawk con un grabado k dice QV2 gracias a tus videos se de donde probienen una saludo 👍
I flew as aircrew on EC-121Ms and EA-3Bs with VQ-2 out of NAS Boca Chica (Key West) in the 1970s. The Willy Victors were like sitting in your living room with no air conditioner running. The Whale was really exciting and fun. As the head Spook I sat up in the cockpit with the pilot and nav. Great view too!
Thanks for posting this. Cool to watch after so many years. My father died in bad carrier landing at night in Sea of Japan VAH13, 3/14/1963 BU138934. He loved flying his entire life and died doing what he wanted to do. Unfortunately he want not alone in his death and other’s injuries caused by a heavy carrier landing on the Kitty Hawk.
My condolences. I knew many of the Heavy 13 crews that were lost over Vietnam. It was a dangerous business that our fathers engaged in. Growing up, I was surrounded by heroes.
The A-3 was a remarkable airplane. Huge, but capable of operating off our Essex-class WWII carriers in use into the mid-1970s.
A3 => ALL 3 DEAD
Rode one of these bad boys from Key West to Fallon Nv.
We had one break the wire and go off the angle. Still had enough airspeed to settle on the water with a flat attitude. Aircrew was good! We thought we were gonna have to shoot it to sink it! :)
Atsugi NAS 1972-1973 as a CTI2.
AT1 (AW) Tim Bradshaw .. VQ-2 1988 -1992 .. Was there and saw it all. WC 213, Whale Avionics.
There from 1981-1988,Pig and Whale Rigger, when i left it was wc210 for pigs and wc 212 for whales
I flew in from Gitmo. Craziest thing was in flight refueling. Two helicopters being refueled by an airplane. Couldn't believe it.
They were a big piece of metal for carrier ops...
Rota Spain.......I never was stationed there but it seemed whenever I asked "lifers" what the best duty station was, Rota Spain was mentioned most often.
My dad was in this squadron just before it was decommissioned. He was a P3 Orion pilot.
My dad was a crew member in a Skywarrior back during the Vietnam war. We were stationed in Rota in the late 60's. My fathers plane was shot down over Vietnam and he was a POW until the wars end. I am not sure the exact number of years he was a POW, I was so young. I do remember driving him to the airfield to drop him off and his plane flew out to meet the carrier off shore. My dad never talked about his time as a POW. RIP Ben H. Beckham.
Salute to your dad ftom down under ✈️🇳🇿

Hilarious!!
WoW! So many years ago! 1978 my Life hasnt been the same since I tried to swallow my snorkle there when that big ass shark snuck up on me. Lets face it. Ajet isa jet isa jet....Ashark though, hell no! 😂
Clyde Clower...74-79. (Troublemaker) And nothing's changed....Howdy! 😂
Can't believe they let you reup inflt like that Chief. Kewl! I dont even remember mine. Probably on the wash rack. 😂; That'll wake ya up in the mornings. And I stroked 10yrs ago. Lost a good bit when that happened. It's like it was all just a flash. Lot of good parts though I still remember. Glyfada, Bennies, American Bar..I was onboard '74-'79. (AMH2 Clyde Clower).
The music is entirely unnecessary. Just let us hear those beautiful, whining engines.
Squadron put it to music Sorry you dont like it
Hello friend, can you support me, I lost the pinion (star) of the motor shaft and I would like to know how many teeth it has.
Alameda NAS and Moffet. Used to see them come Back to bay area what a sight seing 4 ship come in. Awsum.
I was with VQ2 from late 1978 to late 1981. Rota was a great place to be stationed.
A HUGE thank you to all of you in this comment section that served the good old USA. I believe my dad was in HATRON 10 in Whidbey in the late 60's. I was just too young to remember them when picking him up at Ault Field.
Don't worrie, most of us from the 80s can't remember it all either.
Nice you have our drivers recognitio at the end... As an AMS good drivers ruled.
Cr*ppy music ruins it.
This vid came up on my newsfeed after listening to the Fighter Pilot Podcast episode on the A3D
