I had this (and the second series) as a kid and loved it, not realizing until like a year ago that Chris Barrie had recorded the entirety of the Infinity Welcomes... and Better Than Life novels as audiobooks (without the SFX). I downloaded them, thinking I'll hear the same "radio series" I knew so well from listening to multiple times on cassette, and was treated to HOURS more of Chris' excellent narration and impressions! Wish he'd do Backwards as well.

Thank you so much for sharing this! This book fits the story of the X-Files TV series pilot episode (S1E1), first aired on September 10, 1993. Just finished listening to this audiobook and it's great! Love the narration and the nostalgic feeling revisiting this series is giving me! This was originally on cassette tape and is best listened to at a low volume, to make the hum and occasional screeches tolerable. I watched and loved the X-Files in the 90s and am now rewatching it on Hulu. 😊

This was one of my fav episodes. This was good.

Data did NOT speak like a stiff robot. He spoke as smoothly as a human. It was irritating hearing Data’s part sounding wrong. I get you can’t get Brent Spiner to do the voice acting, but making Data sound like a stiff mechanical man which the character wasn’t at least he can be made to talk the way he did. As human as everyone else. It’s a shame the real actors can’t voice the parts. It is nice to hear the late James Doohan. Only he can sound like an authentic Scotsman. Picard had an English accent. Faking it just ‘feels’ wrong.

Canny even smoke weed in mega city 1, that's a twenty stretch right there, no worth it man.

Nice to hear the original ending of Kirk being shot. They did publish an updated version of the novel with the revised ending but this one shows you what was originally shot, so it's more interesting for me.

This is an extremely satisfying Star Trek tale that works well on many levels and contains every trope one might desire, all used to great effect. Kudos to author Murdock, and thanks Nostalgia Record making these dope audiobooks available.

On the cover of the book, Nimoy is before Takei, but Takei carried 98% of the dialog. Shame in false advertising, but an interesting listen nonetheless.
