My Colorado Mountain Garden
United States
Registrace 11. 01. 2021
This channel is all about gardening in the Colorado mountains and the challenges we face.
I will cover starting seeds indoors under grow lights but will also share tips for those that do not have grow lights.
As I move my seedlings into larger pots and then out into the garden I will take you along and explain all I have learned over the past 27 years of gardening in the mountains.
Gardening doesn’t just stop after you plant your plant's ways to use and preserve your harvest will also be shown.
I am also a beekeeper so I will be including some videos of that as well.

Finally getting some good rain but also had some hail which I would rather not have. Hail protection is a must in Colorado if you do not have it your garden will get hit. In the mountains, it typically does not get as large as in Denver but there have been times we have gotten 6 inches to a foot of the pea-sized hail and that will strip your plants,

Will this not attract slugs?
8/24 lol ty
It’s not a fertilizer it’s a soil conditioner
This looks very thyme consuming . Lol 😂😂😂
Are you this boring in real life?
Thank you, I have a lot of fresh from garden and we can't eat it all. I wanted to preserve some and this helped greatly. Thanks again.
I make this fertilizer but I think one tablespoon in one gallon of water is not enough.
How much should it be?
This was the fastest and most precise video on marigolds. You offered great information and exactly what I needed to hear and see. Thank you so very much!
How you use this?? Mix it???
Buy the concentrate, it is more cost-effective then mix and apply as a spray or you can use it as a drench for things like soil aphids
@mycoloradomountaingarden6063 plants shot up to 3 foot stopped heat and wind damage. Bugs beginning too
Used to live in Colorado. Short growing season there. But i miss growing me rhubarb. I can't grow it here in Fl .Would love to trade rhubarb for honey. We are bee keepers. Love you channel. Will try the yeast fertilizer. Thanks again
We are also bee keepers I do not grow rhubarb.
My string of pearls had mealy bugs will this work if I want to recycle the soil or is this method only good for gnats?
If you have mealy bugs they say you should rinse the roots of the plant and put in new soil. I would think the heat would kill them but if it were me I would get rid of the soil and not reuse it indoors.
@@mycoloradomountaingarden6063 Thank you
Yummy let us know if they were sweet or hot
They were about medium heat except for the two small ones they were mild.
how often do you fertilize with this mixture?
I only use it a couple times a year my beds are loaded with a lot of compost so I don't use a ton of fertilizer.
Promo-SM 🙈
Thanks
How much water are you supposed to put in? Just enough to make it damp, or should you make it more soggy than that?
Just enough for it to be damp, not wet.
@@mycoloradomountaingarden6063 Thanks so much.
Looking great fresh oregano is on my list. I'm new just bought a heat mat because I can't get my peppers to sprout.
It might be a bit late for peppers depending on where you are located.
@@mycoloradomountaingarden6063 Just outside Denver near Englewood. My indoor Tomato plant on the window sill is about 8 inches tall and I am afraid to put it outside right now. Was going to do the peppers indoors for now
@@kurtdowney1489 Even in Denver you will be cutting it close on the peppers from seeds. Have you up-potted your tomato to a one-gallon container yet? If not I would bury it deep then it will be happy until June before planting it in the garden. Here is a link to my public page if you want to join and post a picture of you tomato I can help you with how deep to bury it. facebook.com/groups/mycoloradomountaingarden
@@mycoloradomountaingarden6063 I started it in a cup, then upped it to about a half gallon for now about 3 weeks ago. There are 2 lower leafs I was going to prune off and bury the hairs on the stem another 4 inches when it goes into the garden. Also trying ground up egg shells at the bottom mixed with soil. Trying cucumbers and peas too..
@@kurtdowney1489 You have the right idea keep us posted. There are not many gardeners in our area with channels and FB pages.
Is power company Xcell? I'm closer to Denver plants are looking great. I'm sprouting my green and hot pepper seeds now. Started my cucumber too.

Happy plants. Great set up
This is interesting, I will try it with surplus sourdough starter.
The sourdough starter has a bit of flour in it so I have no idea how it will do. This is my public page and I believe in the no waste feed for my sourdough starter. facebook.com/groups/mycoloradomountaingarden
I freeze everything ,no kidding. A person has to try as they’ll be surprised how produce and fruit lasts.
My Nok Chou got dark specks on it. Is this ruined?
I have never had dark spots.
Is it in the stems? Like rotting? Might be your watering method... if you overhead water you can cause rotting between the layers of leaves. We had it once with our Chinese cabbages...

Captions are on now.
Basil stem cuttings do root. Ive never dealt with cilantro but im assuming it would as well
Beautiful and healthy 🌱
Thank you
Thank you 😊
It always is a good idea to find ways in fertilizing your plants without going to the store and wasting hundreds of dollars. I personally compost my fall leaves and my grass clippings and my kitchen scraps in a compost container. I also use human urine as fertilizer. In a 5-gallon bucket with a lid I place enough urine in it leaving only maybe 1 ft at the top adding banana peels and 1 to 2 hands full of my garden compost material. I allow this to formant for around a month to 6 months. But you can mix it well and use it right away in a 5 gallon bucket with water add 1 to 2 cups of human urine fertilizer and then place it on the dirt of your garden bed around the plants route. This has worked for me for around 3 to 4 years. Occasionally I will add some baking soda to pH balance my dirt. I also place in each of my vegetables containers and beds some crushed sea shells I buy a few bags of the calcium seashells for chickens. Many of my vegetables love calcium. I also place a little bit of water and some whole milk if I see my tomatoes in distress. Whatever works for you and does a good job in helping your vegetable garden and your plants grow use it. In this day and age everyone should stock up on vegetable seeds as well as emergency supplies it's always a good choice to learn how to grow your own food. God bless America and each and every person in this world and all these poor innocent animals around the world.
Do you check your ph before adding the product or is this a common practice in your area that you are following?
Looking good!
Dope🔥
You're doing a great job 👏🏼 🌱
This is disgusting
Exciting I am just getting started.
Being at 8800ft I have to start early. Don't you just love it when you see those little sprouts get going?
So envious! I said I wasn’t doing the green house this year…. But I just can’t let the growing bug down! As long as I stick to less is more! Lol
It keeps you moving and it is also a way to decompress.
Awesome! I love this idea.

When do you put your peppers outside?
It depends on the weather but typically they go out around the first week of June. I do try to have them hardened off before that date.
Thank you! This is just what I was needing to see. I'm growing cilantro in a 9 pod Click & Grow Smart Garden unit on my kitchen counter and it's doing very well. But it's growing tall and leggy and I want to encourage bushy-ness. I am looking for a large ongoing harvest because I use cilantro almost daily, mainly in my heavy metal detox smoothies, but also for other cooking. Thank you again.
Thanks !
Thank you for getting straight to the point. I am using your process right now.
Do the Tiny Tim tomato plants benefit from trimming or do you just let them grow?
Hi what temp on thermostat is best for sweet pepper seeds and where is best to place probe when using coir pellets
Thanks for your video
Manitoba is a province in Canada where this tomato originated. It’s zone 3 in the most southern half of the Province.
I am sooooo glad I found this video. Right after I made the last comment, I learned the horrible reality of Root Aphids. All my prized cacti, having had them for 2.5 years became infested. My tropicals became infested. I had gone to a greenhouse and brought home the mothership. Repotting the greenhouse plants is when I noticed the serious infestation. I just thought they were pesky dirtbugs. I never heard of Mealybugs, Root Mealybugs, or Root Aphids before. When all my plants and cacti got sick at the same time, I learned of the hell I brought home. I was told wrong. I was told what I'm fighting was Root Mealybugs, so for 6 months I have been fighting and treating them. 3 weeks ago, nothing was making sense, so I reached out to someone. I wasn't fighting R.M, I am fighting Root Aphids, and that's why I havnt been able to get rid of them. I was sooo P*ssed. My Elephant Ears even became infested. I stopped the type of treatment I was doing, and I went straight into Chemical Warfare!! Your Oven Video Has been the sole reason I still have surviving plants. I have lost so much. 2.5 weeks in; between the Oven, and the Chemical Warfare, I am finally winning the battle!! I only wish I could express how thankful I am for this video!!! Kill all the bugs on the roots, then cook the soil, killing all the rest with their eggs. However, it also makes me mad to have to commit mass genocide. They are simply trying to do exactly what we are trying to do. Survive & Thrive In Nature. PS: There is nothing quite like having the aroma of Hot Dirt Road fill the house. 😂
I feel your pain and so many have told me the soil they bought was sterilized but the soil contains moisture and well you never know how long it has been sitting around. Bagged soils/compost are not airtight and well things happen mold/bug you name it. Thank you for the kind words.
Mam i want to steralize sand and soil plz tell me at what temp, metal trays? and should i cover with foil after stralization??? Plz reply
I like using aluminum pans if you are going to use a flat tray with just a thin layer I would only set your oven at 200 your goal is to reach 180. I do cover my aluminum pans with foil as my soil is a bit damp so that holds the steam in. I put a thermometer in the pan so know when it reaches 180.
Thanks for the tips!
After you cover up the germinated seeds do you put them in light or wait until they have sprouted through the soil?
In my case I had other plants on the plant shelf so the light was on but if you do not need light for them to germinate.
@@mycoloradomountaingarden6063 Thank you for the information!
