The RPM of that rotary tool is far to high. You want a lower RPM to allow the polish to work the surface through low friction. At higher RPM the polish becomes thinned out reducing it's thick consistency while at the same time increasing heat between it and the surface being polished. The high speed also increases the chance of burn through. Also, applying the polish directly to the foam pad instead of the surface to be polished reduces sling, which also wastes product leaving less polish on the surface than you began with.
Hello there, first of all thank you for watching the video. That's very appreciated. Also, thanks for your suggestions. Both makes sense and I'll definitely try them out on my next polishing job. I'm not sure if the Dspiae rotary tool can go lower rpm but I do have another rotary tool that definitely goes lower speed. I'm always looking at ways to improve my polishing procedure, so thank you for sharing your ideas with all of us.
It's pronounced This-pay according to the official DSPIAE people. Also, thanks for the vid! Was looking for more info about this thing!
Thank you for the information, that's very appreciated 😊 that's good to know as now I know how to pronounce the name in the next Dspiae video I make 🙂 Thank you also for your feedback, I'm glad you like the content and hope my video managed to answer the questions you had about this particular photo-etch pliers 😊👍🏼
@@KarlScaleModeling Thank you and you're very welcome!

Thanks Karl for sharing this review! 👍 Very interesting tool 😊
Thank you for watching the video and leaving your feedback my friend, that's very appreciated 😊👍🏼
What about the back of the wheel
The back of the wheels were well cleaned, sanded lightly and sprayed with a spray can in light gun metal. Before spraying I obviously masked the spokes openings from the back to cover the newly sprayed face of the rims. Hope that helps 👍🏼
Hi Karl. Really enjoying your series on the Alpha Models Supra. Are you able to say when the next episode in the series will be released?
Hello Simon, thank you for your message. I'm glad you're a fan of the Alpha Supra build 😊 unfortunately since my last video I didn't find enough free time to continue working on it. I spent some time doing that miniature Supra then life took over with other priorities. But I should be back in September so hopefully I'll have a new Supra video by mid to late September 👍🏼 Thanks again 🙂

Hello, thank you for your message and feedback. Very appreciated. I also saw your email. Will have a look at all the information you sent me and I'll get back to you. Thanks again 👍🏼👍🏼
@@KarlScaleModeling thanks
Great video, really appreciate! What compound do you use from FSM? Moderate and fine cutting? When I look on the webside, there is the orange pad for moderate cutting and the yellow pad for intensive cutting. Thank you so much!
Hello Raphael, thanks for your feedback, that's very appreciated 😊 From FSM I use both polishing pads, the orange and the yellow. After sanding the surface smooth with the 2500-grit sandpaper, I use the orange pad together with Rexin polishing compound. Once done, I use the yellow polishing pad with Autoglym polishing compound. All this is showing step by step in the video. Hope that helps 😊👍🏼
@@KarlScaleModelingYes, I saw that. 😊 What makes me confused: In your video you took the orange and then the yellow one. But on the webside is the yellow one "intensive" descripded and the orange is "moderate" abrassive. And for this procedure you need to go from strong to soft compound. Are your products not the same as on the webside? 🤔 Thank you so much!
Hello Raphael, I have just checked the FSM website and realized the misunderstanding. The FSM polishing pads I used were bought some 2 years ago and are not the same as they have in stock now. You can notice that my pads are short while the current ones are longer. Even the packaging is much different. When I bought mine the orange was for medium cut polishing while the yellow was for fine polishing. Now they're the opposite! Even when I feel my pads, the yellow one is much softer meaning that I'm using them correctly. Sorry for the confusion, didn't realise that FSM changed stock. I would have mentioned this in the video if I had known before. Thank you for bringing this to my attention. Hope this helps 😊👍🏼
That's such a great tool.
Thank you for watching and leaving a comment, that's very appreciated 🙂👍🏼
Looks like a very nice tool for that fine detail work, great review. Having the mini bender included is a great bonus.
Perfectly agree with you my friend 😊 The tool holder is great and useful, but having that mini bender included is a cool bonus too 🙂 Thank you for watching and leaving your feedback, that's very appreciated 👍🏼👍🏼
Lovely tool Karl, thanks for sharing. It is very handful and will be looking to get adding one to my tools for sure❤
Thank you for watching the video and leaving your feedback my friend, that's very appreciated 😊 I did find it useful.. maybe you can buy a cheaper tool/part holder if you already have a tabletop photoetch bender too. I didn't have one so for me it was a good option to have a 2-in-1 😊 Thanks again 👍🏼
dude, that looks awesome. good stuff 👌👌👌
Thank you my friend, that's very appreciated and so glad you like my work too 😊👍🏼
If you do serious bending jobs you definitely need both. The tabletop bendes are also not perfect tools for any job. They are great for longer and bigger parts, but for delicate peaces they are sometimes very difficult to use. For these delicate jobs are better the pliers only or for jobs that need some finishing after first step bending on table tp benders. So to me, both are very usefull and handy tools for PE parts bending and shaping. To me also makes sence, of course if you want to invest that amount of money, to have one bigger and one smaller tabletop bender as the bigger for example by DSPIAE is sometimes simply too big and harder to operate if you do smaller jobs than the smaller benders.
Perfectly agree with you right there. Both types of photoetch benders would become very useful and handy in our hobby. I still haven't bought a large tabletop photoetch bender, however I did buy a two in one tool holder that has a mini photoetch bender included with it. I also just made an unboxing and testing video on this tool and I will publish it today 😊 Thanks for watching and leaving your feedback, that's very appreciated 👍🏼👍🏼
I have just finished painting my Supra yesterday which I also bought from StanceGT, but now after watching your video, I think I may need to spend more time on my car, yours looks amazing, love what you did with the clear resin and headlights, have just ordered some clear resin now, going to try that on my car. I guess this is why this is a fun hobby, you learn as you go along and get better after each car ☺
Thank you very much Michael, so glad you watched my video and enjoyed my work 😊 Yes I tried to put a lot of effort into the mini Supra and now I'm happy with the outcome. These little cars have a lot of potential if built right 😊 good luck for your future projects, I really like your work and collection too. Stancegt makes some cool cars and I'm looking forward to build much more from him 🙂👍🏼

Got in to moddeling last week, because of birthday present, very cool gunpla kit, i know how expencive it was and im so afraid to ruin it with wrong/bad tools, so i need to find my first nippers. But i cant decide wich one to pick up DSPIAE ST-A 3.0 or Mr.Hobby MT-106, any suggestions? They both looks same for me, for my not professional eye, but DSPIAE is a bit cheaper (at least in my country)... Ive heard that "godhand" ones is superior, but those are way too expensive for me. Please help the newbe out)
Hello there, welcome to the model world then 😊 Gunpla are very nice so I'm sure you'll enjoy the build. Never built one myself but I enjoy watching others building them on CZcams from time to time. Now.. you need a nippers! Well, to be honest I never had a Mr.Hobby or a Godhand one. Always read good reviews about them but have never owned any, so I can't tell you which is best from experience. I've also seen good reviews about the Tamiya ones, but once again never owned. All I can say is that before I got the Dspiae, I always had cheaper ones so for me the ST-A 3.0 was a huge upgrade and I love it! The cut is very clean and quite sharp too. If you want a clean perfect cut, it needs to be a single blade nippers so that the blades don't meet in the middle and you're left with that ugly mark you'd need to sand down. My Dspiae does a great job in this regard so yeah I recommend it. Hope that helps and good luck for your first model journey! Sorry I couldn't be of much help regarding comparison but I can't judge what I never owned or worked with 😊👍🏼
Don't suppose you've heard from Elliot ELP modelling recently?
Unfortunately no, haven't heard about Elliot ELP for a long time now. His socials has not been updated for a long period.. I think the last update I saw was an unboxing of a set of wheels from Street Blisters 👍🏼
May I ask which backing pad you are using? (care to share the link if it is some "easily available" one, e.g. Amazon, Ali, etc.?) I got the DSPIAE but seems like any pad I get has the shank a bit thicker than 3mm... and 3.1mm doesn't fit into the tool anymore. Really annoying. Thanks a lot!
Hello there, sure I bought the backing pad from firescale modeler and the shank is 3.0mm. I will leave a link to the exact product at the end of this message. I bought some polishing foam pads from them and added the backing pad since I saw the 3mm marking and it fits perfectly inside the Dspiae ES-P. Here's the product link, hope that helps 😊👍🏼 www.firescalemodeler.com/disc-plate25mm
@@KarlScaleModeling Thank you for the reply, much appreciated! Sadly, this product was out of stock in the time I was purchasing the polishing pads and now the shipping is just too much to order just 1 piece. :( I guess I will toss it in with my next order and meanwhile I will try to grind/sand one of the shanks I have and see whether that helps. Oh well...
Ohh I see, sorry to hear that. You can definitely try to grind down a 3.1mm into a 3.0mm, however you need to be sure it's done correctly to avoid any wobble which might cause damage to the tool too. I have found the same product from AliExpress too, very cheap too. Have a look, hope this helps you better than my previous link 😊 a.aliexpress.com/_EGQzgW7
@@KarlScaleModeling Well, I ended up ordering it on FSM with another 100 EUR worth of paints, etc. I am sure you know how it goes. :) Let's call it "shipping cost averaging". Haha...
Haha, ohhh I definitely know how this thing goes!! Sometimes I need just one item and shipping is expensive.. but free if you spend over 50 euros for example.. *me thinking* oh well, might as well get more items and gain free shipping 🤣 Well done.. you have the tool on the way then (among with other useful items from fsm then 😬) Happy Modelling and thanks again for visiting my channel 😊👍🏼

Do you do custom one too? If yes I would love to commission one from you of my LHD Copen 1.3 with my Taiko no Tatsujin livery :)
Hello there, thanks for showing interest in my work. That means a lot to me 😊 unfortunately I don't do custom commissioned work, I just build for my own personal collection since I barely manage to finish 2 cars per year! I also did an online search for a Copen with a Taiko no Tatsujin livery and that looks seriously coooolll 😊 well done, nice choice 👍🏼
Nice! How long does it take to cure the resin with the UV light?
Thanks 😊 it only takes a few seconds and it dries pretty solid! I even sanded the headlamps smooth and polished them with the buffer when I was polishing the body! 👍🏼
@@KarlScaleModeling oh okay. I didn't expect that:O Thanks for your response
Haha, I didn't expect that either when I bought it! Was surprised at how hard it gets with the UV 😊
Looks great! Love that blue!
Perfect 😊 Thank you for your feedback Thomas, that's very appreciated and so glad you like my work 🙂👍🏼
Do you think an UV lamp can also help in this process to recover yellowed decals? []´s !!!
Hello there, I haven't tried the uv method myself however some viewers mentioned this in the comments that it actually worked for them. Also, a local friend told me that he has one of those nail art uv stations and he finds it pretty effective at correcting yellowing decals. Not sure how long he was letting the decals exposed to the UV lamp though. Hope that helps 😊👍🏼

Salut & Thanks for your message 😊
Ottimo tutorial!
Hope that helps 🙂
A lot of the mods you did here could actually be done in the slicer itself! would have saved you drilling things out

I've been a model builder for 60 years and have Never tossed any parts away ! A full closet packed full !

😊 no problem my friend. Thanks for checking out my video and leaving your feedback. That's very appreciated and I'm glad you like my work too 🙂👍🏼
I understand the philosophy of applying decals over a flat surface but I am suprised that you don’t encounter silvering effect with the clear decal film. I prefer to apply my decals after base coat which is a semi gloss sheen. But who am I to challenge what works for you? Hehe
Hello James, thanks for watching the video and leaving your feedback 👍🏼 I have been doing this procedure of applying decals over sanded 2K clear for years now. Never had any problems and I don't remember ever having silvering with the clear of the decals too. Local modellers at the same club as myself also adapt this procedure, especially when they build racing cars with a considerable amount of decals. Thanks for your concern James, I'm guessing that both procedures work well then, as yours sound great too 👍🏼👍🏼
Looking good Karl, coming along beautifully.
Thank you my friend 😊 your support towards my work and uploads is very appreciated and so glad you like my work too 🙂👍🏼
