Honda XRV 650 - Africa Twin (1989) - Peak District Ride
Wonderful sound and a real head turner of a bike.
Thanks Doug, I agree!
That's a beautiful bike I'd love to do a hill climb on one
Cheers, and same.
Great video, sir! Fantastic machine, in every respect. I would very much like to own one!
Another nice clean Honda Ed 👍👍👍 should sell itself
Thanks Wattie, yes only the finest!
Thanks for posting. Was looking at your VFR but it would be a bad idea. Should have got one in 1988 instead of a GSXR750J. Should have got one in 1995 instead of an FJ1200. Got a 25 year old Harley low rider but sometimes a fairing and brakes would be nice. Lucky we have 99+ fuel in the UK for now. You'll regret selling it, might be a while but sure as anything.
mate thats an absolute ripper.
Looks like fun
@@ambikesandboards Well observed!
Die XL habe ich als 250s von 1979. 🙂👍 ♥
Schnurrt wie ein Kätzchen. 👍
why no wheelies?
They hang you in the UK for doing a wheelie. You have to do them in secret.
@edwards0matic very easy to do on that machine though
@@djizzah Yes, a few have happened by 'mistake' before.
Smooth thumper.
These were some of the best years ever I had a 79 XL 185s in hi-school.
C'est un 2003 ! j'ai le meme avec ...2700 kms !
For sale?
For sale?
It was - I sold it last year
That's one of my dream bikes
I brought the same model XT500D brand new in 1977. I was a first year apprentice Plumber back then and rode the XT everywhere and in all weather conditions as I didn’t own a car. Wish I still had it.
iIdentical to the one I have ❤
Has it been reliable ?
I only owned the bike for a couple of years but yeah nothing went wrong with it. I think as long as you turn the bike off with the decompressor and not the ignition it's as reliable as any other big thumper (XR650's, KLR's etc).
Oh lord. Thats the smoothest kick ive seen in my life
Nice !
Another clean and nice one there Ed 👍👍 sounds sweet as well . I find I have to put the idle up a good bit to start mine from cold then it’s fine all day just re adjust when it’s ran for afew mins . But that one seemed to start no probs just the choke ?? Good luck selling 👍
Cheers Wattie, sad to see this go ... The 400 is the best XR they did (as you know being an owner!) and yeah I like the sound even with the diffuser still in the exhaust. Yep mines the same, the idle was already up a bit before the vid started. Idle up, choke on, few prime kicks then a proper kick. Starts every time.
What’s it rough uk mpg ? I’m torn between buying a 2004 xr400r or a Honda xr650r . Xr650r has nearly double the power at 61bhp but barely gets 40mpg .
Sounds beautiful
That’s a pretty bike. Looks and sounds just like mine. Well a brand new version of mine. 500 stickers should be white I think?
I think you're right yeah they were white when new. I quite like them in black personally though.
Nice looks lime the one from the original "lost boys ". Just don't ride down the beach in the night following vampire and you will be ok
Lol I haven't seen that .. the vampire would hear you coming a mile off on this thing.
@@edwards0matic it's a 78 Honda 250r. And in the move, the one doesn't run from them because he"Mike" isn't running but racing tge team of the 4 vampires plus the girl (named Star) off the boardwalk, down the stair, across the beach threw the wood until Mike drops the bike so he doesn't come over the ocean. Mike joined the vampires unknowingly. That's the movie.
@@StevenBaker-e7p Cheers, I don't need to watch it now.
Nice bike,is it for sale?
Cheers, and it was .. it sold last year.
Hi,do u still have this honda xr 600?
I don't unfortunately. I sold it before moving to Canada a few years ago
It up for sale yet Ed ?
It's my Dad's and I'm not sure what he's wanting to do with it yet ... It'll be for sale at some point soon though I think
Nothing makes you look like a girl as much kicking off the bike . Got little legs little boy?
That's beauty Ed 👍 sounds great back to my youth that sound .😁
Thx Wattie 😁It's amazing how good they sound totally standard.
Was thinking that Ed !! Don’t need the noisy expansion pipes from days gone by at all
The allspeeds 🤣
@@wattie1050 I know, it seems like every RD has those AllSpeeds on .. for some reason
Your bike is a beauty! I had a Honda XL125 in the 80s for my first bike and it was a really reliable and fun bike. I've had loads of bikes since and still have three old Kawasaki's but miss the single cylinder air-cooled and I'd love to get a big thumper bike to knock about Somerset. Might have to go down the Mash 650 route to get close to what you have ... shame the big manufacturers don't still make such nice straightforward bikes now. 🇬🇧👍
Cheers Trevor, I know it's a shame bikes are so complicated now, though as you say those Mash bikes don't look half bad .. I'd always prefer one of these XL's (or an XT500) to scratch the single cylinder itch though .. even compared to new bikes they still ride really well.
You're right. The Mash bike would never match an XL or XT for cool factor. The electric start is tempting though. 😄👍
you should have carried on and got some footage of squires 😁👍👍
I agree - I used to live right next to it so took it for granted.
OMG...Lull me to sleep music. What a beautiful ride, and that sound. Love that orange crush.🧡
Music.
Bike was ahead of its time. About 25 years ahead of its time. Suddenly this is the ideal adventure bike
グッドコンディションですね👍私は、以前XL-125sに乗っていました。
How perched this bike
is bike for sale, where?
It was, it sold a few months ago
Looks like a nice clean one , 2000 bike ?
Cheers, close it's a 2001 .. though it has 2002 style graphics
@@edwards0matic you changed seat aswel ? As its not a 2001 seat cover ?
@@Rust_valley_adventures Yeah the seat is 2002 onwards as well. The 2001 seat is all red and has XR in white on the side.
Ooo
SIMPLEMENTE ES HERMOSA....!!!!
👍 promo sm
Sounds better with it in. In my opinion! Sounds amazing. I have the 1997 xr400 with stock exhaust with baffle removed. Not to loud but nice braaap to it.
I agree, looking back now a few years later it's just loud and annoying without the baffle lol. And yeah I have an XR400 too ... with a slightly opened up stock exhaust it sounds great.
@@edwards0matic id swap my xr400 for a xr600 any day tho one just like yours. Rare nowadays and worth alot of money. Originally wanted the 600 but couldn't get hold of one
Sick bike! Quick question how do you use the decompression lever? Do you just hold it in and kick it a few times then let go then hard kick? I have a 1997 xr400 but not sure how to use the lever cheers?
Yeah pretty much that. To start them from cold just hold the decomp lever in and have the throttle wide open, kick through maybe 5 or 8 times, then let the decomp / throttle out, get it to top dead centre on the stroke and do a hard, normal kick. It sounds more complicated than it is but it's easy (like you see in the vid!).
@@edwards0matic okay thankyou. Will try it as never used it before 👍happy riding.
Nice
Another mint bike Ed 👍
Could have been yours 😅
I’d be divorced if I bought another bike Ed 😀 I’m definitely keeping xr 400 And the husky 701 sm for another year or two . 👍 the bmw will sell easily I bet . What’s your next project ?
Thats a great looking bike you got there 🔥
I had that exact same model / colour XT500 D as my first road registered bike back in 1977. I loved that bike and wish I still had it.
The gaze at the beginning.... contemplation before ignition & lift-off.
😅 Exactly that.
