I wonder if people sang in meantone during this era. It would seem odd if singers sang in equal temperament (which is universal nowadays) while keyboard instruments were tuned in meantone. In addition, copies of early wind instruments play in equal temperament or something close to it. This question is particularly relevent when it comes to Gesualdo, who wrote unusual, adventurous, and abrupt harmonic changes in his music. In modern temperament this kind of thing can be a challenge to listen to. In meantone tuning it would be indescribable.

What a delightful performance. Bravi to the conductor, the soloists, and the whole ensemble. It's more difficult than it sounds. I sang this in Melbourne Town Hall in 1991, and had the opening "Cock Robin is dead". It's both scary and liberating to sing a "naughty" word to a packed concert hall! It is such a fun piece to perform. Thank you also to both Wesley-Smiths, for writing good music, and including contemporary problems.
