The Earl of Salisbury’s Pavane (aka Oh Jesu, Blessed Lord, To Thee), William Byrd

This is a piece I found from a choir arrangement (the second name in parenthesis) and then found the original name of later. I’ve been trying to get back into recorder so this was my first attempt to get back to multitrack practice.
Prelude No. 24 in B minor, BWV 869 (for two tenor recorders and guitar)
zhlédnutí 644Před 3 lety
This is a bit over 5 weeks of playing the recorder now and I’ve been trying to multitrack pieces to work on my intonation at least a couple of times a week. As I go through I figured I might as well upload some of them, with hopefully less mistakes as I put more time into it. This is one of my favorite Bach pieces from Well Tempered Clavier book 1.

Will be getting back to guitar content soon but this is just something a little different! I’ve been teaching myself the recorder for a little over 2 weeks now and wanted to start recording myself to track my progress. When FF9 came out I would let the title screen play over and over because I liked the music so much so although it is sloppy due to beginner issues it was a lot of fun to try to ...

    Brilliant. at 4.09 you talk about Benson rotating the pick from below. Do you think Hendrix did thge same? I am sure I have watched videos of Hendrix using that same George Benson position.I couldn't figure out why, but I think you may have given me a clue. im just starting and i bought this lock to practice and i get that one pin 1 i guess im oversetting pin 2 thanks to your explanation. My question is and since i am a giant newb ive seen a lot of tutorials and im not even remotely good at lock picking but i am trying to learn i guess where i am stuck now is those clicks you guys keep on refering too i i hear a lot of clicks when im picking and also sometimes i dont know if i am on a pin or not so i just move my tool up and down with the leverage of the lock like i pull this tool down and let the front lift up from the leverage i dont try and pick each pick with my own muscle should i ? Should i put tension and then go to each pin and use leverage with the tool to lift them or should i use my own force and try and feel?

    Hi Paul - I’m just starting to learn lock-picking. Thus far I’ve been able pick three Masterlock No. 5 locks pretty easily. I’m now trying to pick a Masterlock No. 140 and finding it to be quite challenging, in spite of having watched your and other people’s helpful videos on the No. 140 lock. More specifically, I can’t seem to get any of the pins to set. Last night I attempted to pick it while listening to it through a stethoscope. I could feel each pin moving against its corresponding spring. With the stethoscope I could even hear the individual springs moving yet I heard no clicks. I varied the tensioning from very light to quite heavy, and tried both clockwise and counter-clockwise tensioning, both to no avail. I’m surprised that I can’t get any of the pins to set with a good clicking sound. I also tried a variety of picks of varying style and depth. Do you have any suggestions as to where I’m going wrong? - Thanks very much - Jim UPDATE: No sooner had I sent my most recent message to you I got the 140 lock open. I found that I had to apply quite a high torque to get it finally open. MaybeI had managed to open it previously but had not applied sufficient torque during the final step?

  • @hubercats
    @hubercats Před rokem

    How does one overset a given pin? Thanks!

    • @PaulHofreiter
      @PaulHofreiter Před rokem

      Sometimes once you have a pin set you can not feel it set (no click, no feedback indicating it or so small that it’s missed) so if you keep pushing it, it will then push further in and then be overset. At that point you just have to let off the tension to let it drop and try again, but it can be confusing since an overset pin can feel like it gives full resistance just like a properly set pin, making you think that pin is done and try to find what is holding up the lock opening elsewhere, when in reality it’s that overset pin that you think is already set. The easiest was I could suggest checking if something is overset is, if you think a pin might be overset then give it too much pressure. If you feel it gradually slide in with a lot of resistance then it is likely overset. Unfortunately the best way to deal with overset pins is not to overset them, removing the issue entirely but it takes some work and identifying if you’ve overset a pin is the first step to avoiding it gradually in the future. It’s a bit hard to explain in text so hope that helps a bit. In my experience some locks will be prone to oversetting more that others, either based on pin type or factory tolerances, or a security pin lining things up in such a way that a normal pin oversets more easily. So you can kind of expect it more from some locks than others and be proactive about avoiding it.

      @@PaulHofreiter :Hi Paul - I’m starting to think that I’ve been “fighting” the bitting sequence. I’m going to be more careful in keeping track of the sequence as I move forward. On a related note, my intuition suggests that the sequencing might be reversed for clock-wise tensioning ad opposed to counter-clock-wise tensioning. Does this make sense? - Thanks, again! - Jim

    Great stuff but I found some of it confusing. It must be above my pay grade, right now. You said you were using G minor (Aeolian by the look of it) but then then you drop in an F# to make an 8 note scale but never explained why. Didn't get that. Nevertheless, 'llI keep coming back to this until it all makes sense. Good info.
