I’ve gained an appreciation for Victoria Hamilton’s portrayal of Queen Elizabeth over the years. I initially didn’t think she was plump enough, and she wasn’t, but I like the way she portrayed her. That combination of matronly wariness and patrician disdain was very effective.

The Queen Mother was rude, petty and a racist-an unrepentant one, at that. She never changed with the times, not at all. And there are loads of actual accounts of her being awful, looking down on the poor, making terrible comments about people’s appearance, just terrible. Remember that “The Crown” is fiction, and have painted these people actually far better than they were. I don’t hate the RF, but I am a realist. This woman was indeed a privileged aristocrat of her time, and literally learned very little about being kind and decent to people in 102 years.
