Beautiful Woman By Philip Malyavin Revealed!
I travelled to see Female Nude by Philip Andreevich Malyavin at the National Gallery Of Slovenia. Come join me there too. Welcome to Art, Culture & Travel with me, Anthony King.
Filipp Andreevich Malyavin was born on October 22nd 1869 in Orenburg Oblast, Russia. He was trained in icon painting and studied under a Russian realist master called Ilya Repin. Unusually, he came from a lowly peasant background which was very unique for Russian artists at the time. He exhibited his work in London, Stockholm, and Nice in 1935 and 1937 after touring and showcasing his work previously in Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia, England, and Sweden in 1933. He painted another painting; the very famous "Whirlwind" which we'll visit in a later video but today we're looking at Female Nude which he painted in 1910.

A wonderful portrait of a handsome man.
Very true. Thanks for your comment!
Fantastic portrait
Yes! Thanks for your comment!
Another wonderful picture. So life like. Thank you.
Many thanks!
very cool, I love the shirt with the print motif, looks like the Flemish paper which is typically applied to harpsichords
Thanks for your comment and great insight too!
I’m baffled about the proportions around the midsection - something is wrong in the proportions. Look closely. Is not that odd? 🤔 a picture Henry VIII commissioned while he was still only the younger brother rather than the heir to the throne. Just a thought as the face seems so young while the dress is so flamboyant that it seems to stem from someone showing off because he absolutely HAS to.
Exactly! Something is up for sure... even the Royal Collection's reciept is unclear about exact attribution and who exactly painted this and all the details, yes! It's almost certainly Flemish though... but a lot of mystery here! Thanks for your comment!
So beautiful. Plus, what a great video clips of the fine arts. Please continue to bring this to us. Thank you.
Thank you! Very kind! It's VERY hard work but I'm going to keep it up! 🙂 Thanks for your comment!

It looks like people have touched the statue for good luck, perhaps.

Remarkable image. Loved hearing about the effect that Amadeo's painting has IN PERSON--sometimes it is essential to share the same space with a work of art, in order to feel that intense connection. Thank you, Anthony! Cheers! 🥂
Absolutely! This really has something special in person. Now! A story! A few months back I posted a video on a fake Modigliani. By a famous faker ... they removed it from display now but Orson Welles did a documentary about it ... the video is on the channel ... anyway ... it too had the SAME energy as the originals! Then I realised that the fakes can be just as good as the originals. I looked CLOSELY... you couldn't tell. Amazing!

When you said exercise caution?
Yes, current US travel advice; "Reconsider travel to Egypt due to terrorism. Exercise increased caution in Egypt...". Many issues - best take advice from the experts on it.
My favorite portrait. The stillness it evokes is particularly comforting. The dress, the hair, the bow, the cross, skin color, the expression… everything about this is perfect to me.
Thanks for sharing! Absolutely agree with you. I'm going to post a video on my personal favouite Modigliani, later this month... stay tuned! Thanks again!
@@ArtCultureTravel I’m looking forward to that post! :) Any leads on where to get “The Heydays of Montparnasse”? Nothing is coming up on google
You asked for a comment. I think a better camera as the image is blurred at 1080p.
Thanks for your comment! Yes, museums with artifacts like this usually have darkened rooms to preserve the items from light damage, which can cause that issue. Pretty minor though. Thanks!
There is far more to this "seat" than meets the eye. As an example, the lions represent Aker, the Gods that protects the horizon of the Sun. Tut grew up in Akhetaten, a place that is translated as "The Horizon of the Sun". The chair was clearly designed during the "Amarna" period of worship of the God Aten with the symbol of the sun placing life in the mouths of the two people. The primary symbol of the chair is the sun. It is at the top center and it is shown with power over the two people. It's hands are choosing to give life and light. The chair was made of Gold also in representation of the sun. The snakes represent the cycle of the sun's rebirth. The shedding of their skin and becoming a new creature is at the core of the belief of reincarnation. One of the most interesting features is at its base, below the feet of the lions on its legs. It has peg features, because the chair was able to be attached to another object, that object was a boat, which is how the sun travelled. This is actually one of the most well known, yet unknown, objects from ancient history, but very few have made the connection between the literal and the physical.
Thank you! So true about the chair being full of symbolism.
Kinnear's way with a paintbrush is most expressive---that fleeting moment of golden light...! 🥰🥰
Shetland is a very special place, yes! He captured it
Was the artist any relation to English actor, Roy Kinnear? 🤔💭@@ArtCultureTravel

It's all about the status quo...:D czcams.com/video/3yIqbVDf3OU/video.html
Talking about Status Quo. I saw them perform live. They were one of best live acts I have ever seen, without doubt.
No way! 😁😁 Then you MUST know about their late 1960s opus--could not resist the connection, once you dropped-in the allusion to Lowry's particular artistic style. 🙌🏻🙌🏻@@ArtCultureTravel
Lowey captured it. So I was pretty young but they were a warm up act for Michael Jackson. They were one of the bests of the show for sure. So only the "newer" stuff... but I remember "Caroline". I also remember hearing "In the army now". Also, i'm from the UK... so 100% of the people know the theme to the Argos advert in the 90s! "Whatever you want".
Wow--the Quo were an unusual opening act choice for MJ--but what a musical legacy (As Paul Weller once famously said: 'I've got a lot of time for the Quo' 😁😁). For me, it's the early psychedelic era Quo that moves me most---a lot of memories! :D (Incidentally, had no idea 'Whatever You Want' was their song!)
So, MJ was trying to do a benefit like live Aid show. Quo opened it in London, I heard, originally. So they opened the benefit show in the same way. They were probably the best act of the day alongside Luther Vandross, who I got to hang out with! I didn't know much about them but seeing them live was memorable. Well impressed! 24 years ago!

It is notable that the painting has had the addition of a glass cover since I made a video of it in 2016. The anamorphosis appears to be slightly more difficult to capture and show now. It would likely be best to record it with a polarizing filter on the camera to cut down on the glare.
Thanks for your comment! Yes, so many changes recently. Glass added left, right and centre as we say over here! Also, more security and more quick response teams with their kits walking around. Too many great works are being attacked for a number of reasons. Now, lighting. It changes depending on the time of day and if I remember correctlt this was filmed just before closing. They like to gently change the ambience of the rooms to encourage you out! Also, as you say it is more difficult now and I think you are correct.
"Each day I go to my studio full of joy; in the evening when obliged to stop because of darkness I can scarcely wait for the next morning to come ... if I cannot give myself to my dear painting I am miserable." Bar the word 'painting', and we are of like mind. 🤗🤗
