What changed?
Nice seats..👌🏻
Hey, first off, I totally believe you that this album trickled out ahead of March 3. On Discogs, the Promo CD is listed at Jan 26, 1989. That sounds right to me, since the first single came out around then. There's also a white label vinyl copy listed on Discogs, so it seems pretty likely journalists and industry people had them well ahead of March 3. The Billboard Ad I don't find convincing--that seems like ads for wholesale buyers. The chart I can't explain. The most interesting thing I found is that Discogs has *two* presses of the initial vinyl version. There's one called "Vinyl, LP, Album, Specialty Pressing" that has an error. "Potholes In My Lawn" was listed as the end of the A side, but actually appeared on the end of the B side. The other pressing corrects this mistake. These have identical bar codes and catalog numbers. Lastly, I used to work at record stores like 7-8 years after this, and record companies were a lot looser with release dates for cool stores in NYC and other big cities, because there wouldn't be an instant internet leak until like near 2000. I think it's possible the general release date slipped, but maybe not for every city or distributor, so some people could just go to the store and buy it earlier than Mar 3. I sold records Sep 29, 1998, so I think you're right about that being the last big day. I suspect this was just a lot more disorganized.
The album was released in early February. This video doesn't include Monica Lynch finding proof the album was shipped on February 6th, 1989 or the first Billboard issues discussing the album that was OUT in in February 1989 or the mid February 1989 issues of Cash Box and BRE (Black Radio Exclusive) listing it as a new release. It was released in February 1989. Face it.
@@ProducersIKnow Hey, all I said is that there probably isn't a firm date. March 3 is conservatively late, sure. Especially in NYC or somewhere like that. The "shipped" thing I saw, but that is still a bit ambiguous. That was a Monday, and records were released on Tuesday then, so they actually showed up on Monday. I agree Feb 14 is probably plausible for an early estimate, but it doesn't seem like everyone got them. All of the record distributor stuff shipped on super-slow ground shipping, too. It wasn't exactly Amazon Prime. Just trying to hit an earlier date in the second half of February, and mostly failing, seems like the most likely thing. I am not sure what needs to be faced, it's just a record.
@@robsayre5721it doesn’t matter what you say or how you say it, Dart will still be unpleasant and charmless about it.
I don't know that much, but I know Foisey fucks.
All of this clears up the release date for 3 Feet High for me.
And POST (Great band)

Wasn't there a Jay-Z in-store in '98? I remember working on the third floor that summer and looking out the windows of the jazz derpartment and seeing the line for Jay-z stretching around the block. And them Eminem's debut album dropped in the fall and he had an in-store and my co-workers asked me, "wanna meet Eminem?"
Yep. I did "security" for that Jay-Z in-store since I worked on the video/magazines floor at the time. It was Jay-Z, DJ Clue, Memphis Bleek & Dame Dash all there signing stuff. It was quite the afternoon.
A great night that I missed out on.
