My father, an Air Force Master sergeant, served at a joint duty posting on a navy base and while there was able to qualify for the Navy pistol award to go along with his Air Force one. He said he used to get some confused looks as fellow airmen were looking at his ribbon rack and trying to figure out what that “strange” last “foreign” ribbon was.

I got mine in VietNam in 1970, but have no info on the letters, since I was in the northern most Prov. I would assume, that I should have the C, so how do you find out, the red diamond div. we could see North VietNam, from where I was.

I bought an old Bronze star on eBay for $40 that was from World War Two. The soldiers name was on the back, he fought in WW2 and Korea. His name was Kenneth Hershel Armstrong. He died at a young age in 1966. He fought in the Pacific in the Army.

Spent two years as a USN/USAF exchange pilot with VF-102 aboard the USS Independence (CVA 62) 1973-74. Some of the best years of my life. God bless all that served.

I was on the USS Shangri-La and flew F-8 Crusaders. Also on the Shangri-La was VF-62 who also flew the Crusader.

My Dad was sure proud that he was a machine gun section leader (Sgt) 1st Marine Division, Korea. 1952-56 Semper Fi and many thanks to all Marines !

My Dad was Army Security Agency attached to the 173rd in Vietnam Nam 65-66.

My Great Uncle served in the 309th Infantry Regiment of the 78th Division. He was wounded in the Battle of the Meuse Argonne.

These divisions with 20+ thousand casualties means the personnel of the entire division was turned over twice, probably more since the combat line brigades (about one fifth of division personnel) took the brunt of causalties.

The U.S. Army Reserve's 245th PSYOP Co. out of Dallas, Texas was called up for service in Desert Storm and assigned to the U.S.M.C.'s 1st Marine Expeditionary Force. They were awarded Marine Corps Combat Action Ribbons, the Naval Meritorious Unit Citation and allowed to wear 1st and 2nd Marine Division combat patches on their army uniforms.

I wonder why the Army decided to only retroactively award the “C” and “R” devices back to 2016. Many soldiers before that date, during GWOT, including myself, would be qualified to wear this with their ARCOMs.

As a civilian who lived through the Global War on Terror, but who was never in the military, and is not from the USA, and doesn't even live there, I still feel i should get some kind of medal for all the craziness. 🏅

Why doesn't the Marines get the air Medal? We flew many missions on choppers during the Vietnam war.

I have somewhere between 20 to 30 of these patches from WWI. My grandfather was a supply sergeant in the 23rd Regiment, 2nd Division. I also have his helmet and an amazing company photo. He was MIA 4 times. He never talked about the war. He is the best man I have ever known.
