ReVoX B215, the best Tape-corder ever built, recap and repair
I purchased this amazing tape deck around 25 years ago and thoroughly enjoyed using it. However, last autumn, it ceased functioning, prompting me to repair it. I am now in the process of replacing all the old capacitors to check if the ReVoX B215 will operate once more. Additionally, I have acquired some refurbished recording and playback PCBs. It promises to be an exciting project, especially alongside refurbishing all the CB radios I still have. Wishing everyone a pleasant weekend. Best 73

Today is another remarkable day. In my cellar, I discovered an old reel-to-reel tape containing CB QSOs from the early '80s. It dates back to the era when CB expanded to 22 channels AM/FM/SSB. With just 500 milliwatts (0.5W) of power, I managed numerous CB contacts outside Switzerland. On this 22nd of June 1984, I attempted to make a DX on CH16-SSB, aiming towards northern Germany. Regrettably,...

Hello dear OM, thank you for visiting my channel. With the FT847, the AGC regulation needs to be improved. Zodiac P6002 has a 240 mW transmitter but the antenna power is 100 mW, similarly the P2012 approved as a CB radio has a 240 mW transmitter but 100 mW in the antenna, the radiated power is 7 mW. Both radios are in the 2W "Input Power" standard, which allows up to 0.5W of output power, but this is only a limit, not a requirement. Zodiac P3003 has about 1W, but the recommendation was for the service technician to reduce this power to 0.5W by detuning the transmitter filter (for Switzerland). P2003 (about 0.5 - 0.8 W) worked better - modulation was better due to lower load on the power stage. Native design, the modulator was designed for 0.5 W transmitter power, P3003 overloaded the modulator, this was done to improve sales, but the radio worked worse than P2003) All standards were measured for 12.6V power supply, 13.8V voltage prohibited. The first Sommerkamp has 2.5 to 3.5 W output power and 5 W in the "Input Power" standard. Licensed by Tokai. The P2040 has 7 W "Input Power" and 2 W output power. Shinwa has a manufacturing defect, all units had damaged displays (lack of funds). The transmitter power is 1.2 W for 10.8 V power supply. It did not meet Swiss standards when starting the transmitter and generated incorrect signals frequencies (lack of funds). Soon he falls. Zodiac 5024 and 5012 are 5W of the "Input Power" standard and 2.5 - 3.5 W of output power for 12.6 V power supply. I don't know the Tokai model number. This was the period before the collapse of Tokai, so 1971-1973. These radios had between 0.25 W and 0.8 W but their receivers were better than Zodiac. They also had better modulation due to lower modulator load. very old Tokai - the gray ones with plastic knobs (e.g. TC-130G, TC-500G), were very unreliable due to the germanium transistors. Japan was a very poor country, so she worked very hard for very little money. The Japanese did not buy such devices, they were too poor, they could not afford it, it was a product only for export. In Japan, vouchers were given to buy a TV. Japan became rich in the 1980s, where robots and computer design came to help at work, and all small companies like Zodiac and Tokai went bankrupt. Only large companies such as Sony, etc., financially supported by the USA, survived. Good luck.
Hello my ZODIAC friend Arkadius, thank you again for your contribution about the wonderful and indestructible handheld radios from the 70s. In Switzerland, we could operate with a maximum of 3.5 watts in the CB range (34 channels) in the early 70s. Business radio frequencies shared these channels with the CB radio range. The severe restrictions on the CB radio hobby began in 1977. From this date, no radios that were not portable were allowed to be operated. The maximum ERP power was reduced to 100 milliwatts. External antennas, external microphones and network devices were prohibited. From 1977 to December 31, 1981, I had to indulge in the CB radio hobby. But from January 1, 1982, new CB radio regulations were issued throughout Europe. From then on we were allowed to broadcast on 22 channels on AM/FM/SSB with 500 milliwatts of transmission power. Home stations and external stations were allowed again. From January 1st, 1984, it was possible to broadcast in Switzerland with 40 FM channels (4 watts). At the same time, a new frequency range with 934 MHz was introduced into high-quality radio technology.... I wish you and your family a nice Sunday.

Brilliant video Swizz and mostly understandable even with my limited German haha, thanks
Hello dr OM Retroworld thank you again for your visit on my channel. I think, thre are more records from the early 80ies QSO's. Also in SSB. I^ll look in the next few days. Have a nice weekend and best regards to you and your family...
Love Reel to Reel machines and Swiss accents!
Hello dr OM Micky G, thank you again for your visit on my channel. There is an another Reel to Reel machine im my shack. It'was made by PIONEER. But the both Capstan onpress rolls are defect. The both rubber-rings are resolved and became dust. Have a nice weekend and best 73 to you and your family.
I wish someone ever recorded my DX contacts back in 1988 through 1991. Sadly I never recorded my own radio contacts. thanks for sharing this rare tape.
Hello dear OM Eduardo, thank you for visiting my channel. Yes, I may still have such recordings on compact cassettes. The tape deck (REVOX B215) gave up the ghost last fall. I would have to have it repaired once. However, the standard repair prices for these cassette tape machines are so high, that you could also buy a top HAM transceiver. I wish you a nice weekend. Greetings from the Zurich Oberland...
Stefan
Wunderbares QSO - merci vielmols 🙏 Bin selbst seit 1978 QRV, erst in Deutschland jetzt in Dänemark KP765 🇩🇰

Hello Mister Jeff, thank you again for your visit on my channel. Yes, there were big times in the great CB-radio World of the 80ies. I'm remember very good to the great Radio-brands and antenna manufacturer. Have a nice weekend. best 73 to you and yours...
I had an FT ONE back in the day. A beautiful looking radio although not without their issues. Mine finally succumbed to the dreaded dry solder joints which they are well known for....
I still have a ft101zd :)
@@xszl me too.. A mk2
Yes, it's the SOMMERKAMP FT-ONE. I've it purchased after my HAM-Radio examine. With the Transverter FTV-107, so I worked also on 2m / 70cm with the FT-ONE. And now, the old radio is working only for the 60m Band too. Best 73 to you and yours...
This is a Galaxy 2100 but more powerful. Great radio. Peak and tuned with Mod limiter removed, this is a super loud radio.
Hello dr OM Sara, thank you for your visit on my channel. Yes, iknow the trick with the removed limiter TRANS. A lot of my radios have removed limitertransistors. All in all, CB- radios and- antennas are a passion of me. It was a beautiful time in the 80ies: Big CBiers - parties, without smartphones and Instagram profiles. Best 73 to you and yours...
Thank you so much. I just purchased one of these. Your video has helped me a lot. Kind regards, david

@SWIZZRADIOS I agree with you!! My Uncle Bernard introduced me to CB radio in the 80s in England. We used to drive in his Van to the local river and use his then illegal AM CB!! It was so exciting!!!
I take that this radio was not made in quantity hard to find - Jackson as well

@@SWIZZRADIOSThanks good sir! I just had a chance to get one of these ironically but it turned out to be faulty after they tested it for me prior to buying. I do have the Black Panther and Tristar 515 mobile. 73's
