Getting used to the new mods! | Blyton Park | Abarth 124 Spider
zhlédnutí 255Před 21 dnem
After a successful 1st round, we're back again at Blyton Park for another practice session before Round 2. Since Round 2 will be on the Eastern layout, today is more about getting used to how the car handles now, and just getting in the seat time for it. It's still got some time here and there, but I managed to drop over half a second between this and the last track day, so I'm pretty happy wit...
Let's set some new class records! | JTSS 2024 | Round 1
zhlédnutí 328Před měsícem
It's 2024, and that means a new Sprint season is starting! We've got a great track lineup this year, going back to Anglesey for a double header instead of Mallory and introducing Oulton Park to the list now. This year's goal will be to set new class records at each track and regain the J10 championship title, which the latest mods will hopefully help with! Over the off season, I did a complete ...

We're back at it with another season of sprints! After last years disappointing results (couldn't score points for the championship due to missing out on too many events because of work/personal reasons), we're coming back stronger with a complete suspension refresh that was done over the winter break. The new stuff we've got now for this season are: - 12K/6K Xidas - Polybushes on every corner ...

It's practice day at Croft for Round 2 of JTSS. I got a new personal best, but honestly, I'm not sure of the GPS quality of it, so I'll leave it up for now, but I think I'll be trying to get an external GPS receiver, because it didn't seem right to me. Maybe I'll think about it some more and revert back to my last personal best, haven't decided yet.

Hey everyone, it's time for a new season! This is the last round of the Javelin Trackdays Sprint Series 2022 season, and at one of the best tracks in the UK! Although I had pretty much secured 1st place for the season, I still wanted to use this opportunity to see how much I've grown over the season. Rounds 3 and 4 of the Javelin Trackdays Sprint Series were back to back at Anglesey, so lots of opportunities to improve my times. Specs on the car are the same as last time, except for the addition of fresh AR1's.

How many miles on track have you already done? How the car is holding ?
I haven't really tracked how much on track time I have, but I've been tracking the car since 2018, and am up to 71K miles. Car is still going strong though!
@@stirado26 nice! Do not know why, but I have always considered this engine more fragile compared to Mazda construction. Last weekend I took my 124 to a race track for the very first time 😀 so much fun
It's definitely a lot of fun! Yea, lots of people think the engine is weak, but it takes a bunch of abuse if you maintain it well. Now the Mazda transmissions, those thing are ticking time bombs lol.
I see you have the GWR Sports Cat and System One exhaust listed for power mods. Do you not have a cross-pipe, too? No bigger intercooler? Also, what fender work did you need to do to fit the 17x10's? They work with stock wheel studs, too? Does your catch-can get much in it? I ran an EC can years ago and it never had anything in it.
Yes, I have the EC intercooler, along with the full turbo back System One exhaust. The wheels took a good fender roll and slight pull on all four corners, and so far I've only noticed rubbing in the rear. I think it's rubbing because I have a 3" spacer in the rear to clear the brake hard lines. I have the stuff to do the GMX5 brake line relocation, so after I do that, I'll remove the spacers and see if that helps. I have extended wheel studs, so I'm not sure if they'd fit with the stock ones, but I don't see why they wouldn't. Lol my catch can hardly ever catches anything in it, so I'm not sure if my car just doesn't have that much blowby, or it just doesn't work.
Well done!!! And in the last run haha. Can I ask what is the J10 class? Thanks.
It's one of the Javelin Sprint Series classes that includes cars with 1800cc to 2000cc engines, less than 210BHP, and full interiors (minus stuff that needs to be removes to fit safety gear, I.e. rollbar, cage, etc). It's basically a street class for cars that can be daily driven/driven legally on the road.
@@stirado26 Thanks!
Your car will become an absolute weapon with a bigger turbo. Those fast cars won’t seem so fast on the straights anymore!
I think so too, I just have to work on the driver mod in the meantime lol
hey man, ive got an Abarh 124 as well, modded as well, did you see a oil consumption issue with your car? and if so how did you fix it? Ive tried replacing the PVC and installing a catch can and nothing seems to work... but congrats on shaving down your lap time!
Hey Eric, I do get slight oil consumption during normal driving, and a bit more on track. I'm thinking that i have some oil being burnt through the spark plug tube seals, but I'm not 100% positive, so I'll be trying to replace the valve cover gasket and tube seals to see if that helps, but no, I haven't figured it out either. If you manage to, let me know 👍.
@@stirado26 yeah might be a common issue... I've noticed I've got to replace my plugs far too often , super fun cars tho 🤌
I change my plugs every 20K miles miles and oil every 3K with how much I track, so I feel that pain with the plugs lol
Great driving!
Thanks man!
Good runs lad, keep it up!

Looking mega quick Santos mate. Lapping in the 1:12’s in a road car is mad impressive. I imagine you’ll be untouchable in this years sprint series. Good luck mate 👍
Thanks man! I think there's still low 12s in there, I just have to get that perfect run lol.

You were still moving bro! It was awesome seeing someone hustling a Jag around the track like that, I love seeing unique cars out there. Glad I was able to get some footage of your car 👍
How do you get lap times and telemetry on your head unit? I'm very jealous
First off, you need the Apple Carplay/Android Auto mod. When you have that, you just need to get an Android box, the one I use is Digidash. Then I downloaded the Racechrono app on the box, and it displays on the screen. Maybe I'll have to do a quick video to show the setup and how it works lol. But when you have it set up, you can also download apps like Torque and have digital gauges on the screen as well.
@@stirado26 that would be a great video. I'm subbing for that. I have done the android auto upgrade just need the extra parts now
Thanks for the great content. What's the model of this gear knob? do you like it?
No problem! The shift knob is from Raceseng, the Hydro model. It feels pretty nice in the hand, but the stainless steel does have the problem of being really cold in the winter and hot if left in the sun lol.
Hey, as a fellow Abarth 124 owner from the continent, I wish you all the best. Very interested how your performance upgrades do. Good luck, mate.
Thanks, hopefully I'll see you out on track sometime!
So what mods have made the most difference for you? Anything new planned for this season?
The ones that have been the most effective I'd say are the tune, the coilovers, and the wheels/tires. Those really transformed the car. The rest really just compliments those three mods.
Great job!
Thanks! This seasons gonna be a wash though as due to work and personal stuff going on, I'm only going to be able to score points in only 4 of 7 rounds, so I'll have to focus on next season for now 👍
At least you get some practice rounds to keep your driving skills up!

@J&S MX5 thanks man!
Drove Cadwell for the first time yesterday, easily one of my new favourite tracks on par with Oulton. Your 100 mph through coppice is impressive commitment! I think I managed about 95. I can feel those AR1s coming to life. Limited by courage now! Was also comparing our laps at Blyton. I lose time through turn 1 and Bishops mainly - grip is there, similar speeds down the straights, need more courage to carry speed at entry and apex.
That's awesome man! Lol Cadwell really tests the limits of your courage, but when you pull off a good run, it feels amazing! I think it just comes down to getting used to the tires, the AR1s will take a couple heat cycles before they start gripping like crazy, and then you'll have to readjust to how fast you think you can take corners 😅. You gonna try to make the Cadwell sprint?
@@stirado26 Can’t do Cadwell sprint this year, but next year for sure!
Awesome, hopefully you can make it next year then, it's one of the best sprints 👍
Your weight shouldn’t be that far off from an NB, seeing that you’re chassis is an ND. I did notice that he might have the usual 245/45 square setup that many with 949 racing wheels run. More tire and a racing suspension (not a street suspension) will do what that NB is doing ;-).
He's at around 1850lbs/840KG, I'm still full interior with factory seats lol. He's got a couple hundred pounds on me for sure lol. But yea, after this season I'll be upgrading from the KWs.
Any upgrades this year or planning To the spider124
Not this year, but for this next off season will be switching suspension, and going with 17x10s. Maybe some bucket seats if I can get to it lol. Oh, and lightweight battery if I have money left over lol. That would fully max out what I could do in class.

How do you display the speed and revs?
I use an app called RaceChrono Pro along with an OBD2 reader for the data overlay 👍
Meglio questa della mx5
Short shift to 3rd at Barn is the right way to do it, it feels odd to go up a gear and brake but the alternative is worse for overall lap times in my experience. Cadwell is my local circuit (5 minute's away). We go at least once a month to keep sharp. Haven't filmed anything myself since my original first trips out some time ago
I agree, it always feels weird to me but I just don't have the gearing for 2nd at barn, and rather than shift mid corner, I'll just leave it in 3rd lol. I'm usually at Blyton or Cadwell since those are my local tracks (20 and 40 minutes away from me), with the odd romp at Donington every so often.
Nice. Ps. What software or how do you get the display to show the car data?. Thanks
I get the data through an app called Torque Pro. To be able to get it on screen, first you need to do the Android Auto/Apple Carplay upgrade. After that, you buy an android box (I'm using this: digidash.store/) to connect to Carplay on the screen, and download the Torque App on the box. Last thing you need is a cheap OBD2 reader to plug in and connect to Torque, and you're all set to start displaying the data 👍.
Man, this track looks like awesome fun! Thanks for sharing.
It's definitely an awesome track, it's got everything you could want: fast corners, slow corners, and big elevation changes.
What a fun track! Looking good out there.
Thanks! Cadwell is definitely one of the best tracks out here for a reason 👍
Apple CarPlay in other countries, why do we get so little here in Australia?
You can install Carplay yourself by buying the Mazda carplay kit and installing it 👍

Haha, nice!!! You´re my hero, man! Going with an open roof on the track xD Looks like really good fun! I have a 124 too, but never went on a track yet. Did you do any upgrades besides the boost gauge? Cheers from Austria :)

@@stirado26 clean runs are overrated.
What tyre size you are using? Seems to be a bit wider than the stock.
235/40/r17s 👍
Wow, thanks! This is the size I'm looking for but didn't want to have the fenders rolled or the break lines rerouted. Do they fit easily?
@@emgyee they fit, but with how lowered I am, they did rub the inner liner during turns. You'd have to reduce Caster to around 6° and get 2.5° or more camber to possibly avoid rubbing the liner if you're lowered. The suspension components and brake lines cleared on a 17x8 etc 45 wheel.
Thanks Santos!

Hey, great video! I have just bought an Abarth 124 Spider, and I see in your video that you have an app installed on the infotainment unit that shows the speed, etc. Would you be able to share a link to the app? Or how you managed to get the speed up on the unit please? Thanks!
Thanks, glad you liked the video! So to get the display up on the screen, there's a few things you need. First, you need to have the Android Auto/Apple Carplay mod done. Second, you'll need a cheap OBD2 reader, which you can get from Amazon. Third, you need to buy an app like Torque Pro (which is what you see on the screen). Last, once you have those other three things, you can buy something like this (this is the exact one I have): digidash.store/ Hope that helps, and if you have any more questions, let me know and I'll be glad to answer them. Thanks, I've gotta get on making the round 3 and 4 video, I've been feeling real lazy lately too lol
Hi. Great driving, nice lines. My husband David was driving the white mini. He said you were quick! 😄
Thanks for that, glad I was able to get some footage of him! It was my first time at Croft, so I definitely could've improved a bunch, but I was mainly focused on learning the track and not crashing 😅
Hey Santos mate, great footage! That’s the first time I’ve been able to see a few corners of the car going round, no one else has been able to keep up 😂 I’ll have to return the favour next time we’re at Blyton 👍 Great lap, if you stripped that out and put a cage in it you’d easily be at the top of J09
Lol thanks, it's always nice to be able to see your driving from the outside

Nice ride, please what tires ? Do you have got any other upgrades (oil cooler, etc)?
Hi, the tires are 235/40r17 Nankang AR1s, and I've basically got all bolt ons except for upgraded turbo. I've got a full current list here: czcams.com/video/7ZGhkICm3g4/video.html
