I accept being topper doesn't mean everything but it reflects the level of dedication he/she can give to certain thing or work! And regarding few toppers being successful and most backbenchers/ non-toppers being successful, success is all about exploration of things that might eventually workout, and since 99% people are obviously non-topper, it is normal to see more non-topper getting success. And by success, I mean financially here.
