A guy who could master Defender was King of the Arcade. I remember there was a guy who would play every lunchtime and would play one game for the whole hour. Most people struggled to play for more than a few minutes, it was brutal. The hardest arcade game by far.

This game BLEW MY MIND when I first played it in the arcade back in '81. Defender and the sequel Stargate ate so many of my quarters and I still suck at, but totally enjoy, playing them. Very few games in the decades since fire my imagination or hold the same magic as the classics like Defender, Tempest, Berzerk, Asteroids, Gravitar. The graphics & sound might be "simple" but they're potent and beautiful in a way that the best minimalist modern art is, and the gameplay and responsiveness of the controls holds up.

I wonder why they had a different intro for every region with this game?

@3:34 anyone thought this was a corrupted video file back in the day? Whereas it was completely intentional. The reference here is what used to happen while playing a video file with old computers; if the system couldn't handle the video stream, it'd repeat half a second, skip some video frames or do what you've just heard. Explaining what this is in relevance to the game would be a spoiler so I'll skip that. But you must continue your m-mission

Still one of the greatest horror game trailers ever , how sad to see where it's ended up

I wish they would’ve kept the theme of doa trailers showing of the new girl training, the Aerosmith music, choreographed in game clips of the gameplay of the newer characters with a hint of the story being peaked. It’s one of the many things that gave the series identity that’s missing from the newer games.

It ain't Gran Turismo if the opening movie don't have a kickass song going on throughout!
