    A vacuum pump is much more preferable than a vacuum generator, since you need an air compressor, in conjunction with the vacuum generator, and that air compressor needs a large tank, and it needs to be running almost nonstop.

    I found that while Delrin is a really nice material to work with there are some problems in some applications. Don't try to make spool valves out of Delrin if they are going to used at elevated temperatures. For example using a Delrin spool valve in a hydraulic application where the spool valve is installed in an aluminum bore. The valve will work just fine at room temperature but once the oil has reached about 150 degrees F the spool valve will expand in the bore and jam the valve. The expansion rate of the Delrin spool is higher than the aluminum body. Steel or brass is a better option here.

    It's a good idea and resourceful but impractical. Aside from that, a 3 jaw chuck has only 3 small surface points oppose to a collet that has far greater holding power for fast and heavy cuts. In addition, the larger and longer the part you are cutting is, the weaker the 3 jaw chuck becomes because it does not have the holding power of a collet. So be careful.

    • @MojoMfg
      @MojoMfg Před rokem

      Congratulations haha. I guess if you had the means to face both side of the material then it wouldn't have it curl up as much. Peter from Edge Precision has a killer video of him doing some plate work in titanium so he doesn't get any bowing. He's an actual machinist. I'm just a guy that likes to cut metal so I lack a lot of the machinist attributes as I don't fully know what I'm supposed to do, I just know what I'm trying to do. czcams.com/video/SYtJum5k9V8/video.html

      @@MojoMfg lol I'm in the same boat. I was deep in science and medicine for a very long time. Unfortunately those fields have been wrecked beyond repair and are now just a giant political propaganda fest from governing bodies to grad schools to the workplace and everywhere in between. I never wanted any of that, I just wanted to objectively help people and do some good in the world. So I left as opposed to selling out. Had no idea what I was gonna do. Had a product idea and no clue how to make it happen. Started doing research and 6 months later I'm currently assembling a pcnc 440 in my garage. Never thought I'd be in the medical field or go to medical school, never thought the entire field would go political, never thought I'd have anything to do with machining... but here I am. Life is full of surprises. So I'll be flying blind by the seat of my pants and relying on content like yours to figure it all out 🤓 thanks for the help, I appreciate it.

    • @MojoMfg
      @MojoMfg Před rokem

      Thanks for the backstory! It's always interesting to hear other people's paths that lead them to where they are. Thankfully there's a lot of content out there to help you learn machining and such. I'm sure you've been following and watching NYCCNC quite a bit. There's a wealth of knowledge there to help you get started. I watched him back when I was in school before I had any machines. Still, nothing compares to experience and it sounds like you're on your way to getting that experience.

    • @joearledge1
      @joearledge1 Před rokem

      @@MojoMfg lol yep, I've been checking out nyccnc, blondihacks, Mr. Pete, AVE, and several others. That's what made me bite the bullet and buy the mill, figured there wasn't a lot left for basic concepts(a metric ton left to learn overall though) and the next significant step was to turn some stock into scrap and break a few end mills lol. I'll probably try cutting my teeth on making some bullet molds first. I'm also interested in playing with mill turning. Before I do that, I've gotta figure out the best way to level and tram the machine. It looks like the stand just needs to be level-ish via bubble level, then the table looks like it's leveled with shims after path pilot is running. Still trying to find good sources for the details on all of that. A few videos mention messing with the ball screws to maximize precision, still trying to figure out exactly what I need to do with those. Anyway, I look forward to seeing more of your content. Keep up the good work Sir
