Welcome! I started this channel LONG ago. The point for me doing so was to get gigs. The old way of demo tapes to get jobs was done. Clubs wanted video. So my wife Rita and I bought a little video camera and she'd come to the shows and shoot them. I'd post the videos on CZcams and send the links to agencies and clubs. Later on, I started filming home improvements around the house. To my surprise, people were appreciative. The channel became a mix of different things. People go to CZcams for 1 of 2 reasons, to be entertained or to learn. My niche is the later, so everything I posted was knowledge based. While gigging fulltime in Florida, I decided to do a bass lesson video for beginners. Out of the blue, people from around the world started asking me for bass lessons. Turns out that bass lesson video was getting seen. So now I give lessons and this channel is all music. Discipline The Mind And Avoid The Box Music Lesson
Hi, do you think it would make much of a difference by buying new strings for it?
No. The strings that came with it are okay. Bass strings last a long time. New strings will be brighter.
Does this method work on plastic frames as well or just on metal frames?
Yes.
Thanks I'm looking for a cheap but good bass too start learning and i hope these are good 😭😭🎀 my mum will NOT spend £600 on a bass and all other bass seem to be that price 😂
The Squier bass is priced on the low side and is pretty good for a beginner bass: czcams.com/video/jc7fgiRM6TU/video.html Look into those. If you have a music store by you they might even carry them. It's best to try something in person rather than just buy something on line this way you can get a feel for it. Depending on how old you are and how big your hands are, you might want to try a short scale bass. Here are a few you can check out: czcams.com/video/l7twVE1iSko/video.htmlsi=bmaUx8ctUaFFuiTl czcams.com/video/8OltLr9VGRc/video.htmlsi=kOzVUSbMoh36q7Xi Good luck!
@@stevekonbass YOURRE SO HELPFUL THANKS SMMM 🥺💞💞💞 I decided im gonna try earn extra money to get a gear4music visionstring bass as it just comes with everything but ill deffo watch the videos. Before I make a final decision 😂🩷
What a great lesson - Thanks for taking the time Steve - one part I am missing , could you help and sorry if it’s obvious to some - with the chords eg.,A minor how do you get A C E , G major = G B D . Thanks again 🎸
By taking the root, third, and fifth. So we're playing in C major... C D E F G A B C. The first chord is C major (C-root E-third G-fifth). The second chord is D minor (D-root F-third A-fifth). The third chord is E minor (E-root G-third B-fifth) and so on. The difference in what makes a chord major or minor is the third. A major third would be 4 half steps. A minor third would be 3 half steps.
@@stevekonbass I understand- Thank you Steve - It’s brilliant you take the time to help
Counting is harder than one might think! It is fun, and I am sure over time it eventually becomes second nature. I am a beginner.
Yep, it'll get easier. If it's tricky now, slow it down until you get it.
Thanks, Steve!

I'm seeing one on marketplace for $300 with Seymour Duncan JB pickups. Hope it's worth it
Well, new it's about $350. The Duncan pickups are about $100 a piece. If they wired them right it could be a good deal.
Thanks. Great lesson. I would love to see a follow up lesson taking this a bit further. Usually I can follow this lesson but struggle when I try to count the beats in actual songs where the notes aren't regularly spaced. I end up losing the count. Perhaps some exercises where the note lengths change while we keep the count on some simple bass lines/progressions. I think this is a major stumbling block for me.

It's funny you should say that because I was going to give examples in this lesson on how to count out bass lines to certain songs. I decided against it because I thought it best to keep this one fairly simple. Maybe I'll do a follow up. The trick to counting out basslines is to slow it down until you get it, then speed it up to the tempo of the song.

ok, here is a triplet question: should I start each triplet with the index finger or alternate as it comes: 1 (index)-trip (middle) let (index), 2 (middle) trip (index) let (middle)? I do hear a difference if I start with the index each triplet but it is easier just alternate as it comes. So....?
Good question... alternate as it comes.
You are an excellent teacher, i really enjoy your videos, i been watch you for almost a year, i learned a lot about bass. Thank you Keep up the excellent work 👍💯

Great lesson. Internal clock is a great way to put it, so important. Music theory is really important and good to know. I love the visual illustration to complement the audio. Awesome content. Thanks Steve!
Thanks John. Timing could be a little tricky for beginners, so this is a good way to start.
@@stevekonbass yes, excellent lesson. Those dotted quarter notes are tricky for me still.
Crazy question. I already own the Rumble 500 combo stacked on 2x10 cabinet . There is this guy selling a Fender Bassman 500 watts . At an amazing price !!! I’m really considering. But if I were to use a Fender Bassman head on top of my Rumble 500 combo , with an additional 2x10 cabinet , would it work ??? I like the idea of having better access to the controls . Not sure if this would even work . I guess my goal would be : Plug my bass into the Bassman head , while still using the 500 combo and the additional 2x10 cabinet . I wish this guy that is selling his Bassman would ship it to me first before I buy it . I want to know if it’s even possible to do before I commit .
No, not like you described. You'd have to plug your bass into a direct box with 2 outputs and plug 1 into the Rumble 500 combo and the other into the Bassman head attached to the 2x10 cabinet.
@@stevekonbass so this could actually work ??? That’s great news . I’m still on the fence . I’ll let you know what I decide . Thanks brother
The way I described using the direct box, yes. But you can't plug your bass into the Bassman head and then plug the Bassman head into the Rumble 500 combo because you'll blow up the Rumble 500.
I was almost going to give up playing bass but after finding this channel I have so much hope! Thank you for breaking it down!

You're welcome Keith. If you find the timing tricky, slow it down and practice it until it comes to you. Then, gradually bring it up to tempo.

Hello again. The inputs confuse me slightly. I have a drum machine with stereo outputs, which I've connected to inputs 15 and 16. It doesn't sound very stereo though, as drum machine is set up with fades on left and right drums, but I can't hear this anymore when listening through R16. Oddly, instructions say, when connecting a device with stereo outputs, 'be sure to connect left output Jack to an odd number input, and right output Jack to an even number input'... Why would that make a difference? Cheers
If it doesn't sound stereo, make sure track 15 is panned all the way left, and track 16 is panned all the way right. If it still doesn't sound stereo, see how the drums are panned in the drum machine. You can pan the hi-hat a little more left and the ride a little more right and pan the toms left to right.
@@stevekonbass ok many thanks
how do you cpnnect the wire back
Look to see where it came off from and re-solder it.
@@stevekonbass the only problem is i dont have a solder kit, any temporary way i can use before i can solder it
