    To have a 100% success rate with bags, they must be fully submerged (steam is a no-no, so have something heavy to keep them submerged), and pressure must not be released: canner must cool down naturally.

While we have plenty of space, I was always hearing from new comers that they didnt have enough space. Looking for suggestions for them I found a yt channel the homemaker husband...he preps for he and his wife, and their pets in a small apartment. It amazes me what they can do in the space they have. he even grows a small container garden on his 3rd floor balcony !! We are in our 60s now..always gardened, but a few years ago added ducks and chickens (they multiply quickly...husband keeps ordering more) so had to trriple gardens to help feed them and us. Yes, to anyone just starting, it can seem so overwhelming...but every week add 5 items. seems to good to be true, but it adds up. Yes! He got to see me light up when talking about gardening and wanted to see me happy. He couldnt resist after that. So far, its going to be those 5 rows. We are leaving the space between the rows for grass, so will make reverting it back to a lawn when we get ready to sell that much easier. In about a week or two, the rest of the seedlings will be going outside and will be able to show the whole garden off. Its not going to be too big, though he is planning on removing a couple more trees, one will give me more room for more rows in the future.

I purchased mine because I was sick of never being able to seal leftovers that were liquid and vacuum sealing for long periods of time. Many regular vacuum sealers over heat when they have been used for long periods of time like when you have just killed a big game animal or butchered you meat animals. Also where did you get the canning times that info would also be helpful. Keep doing the videos no one starts out perfect in the beginning.

    New here and I can SO RELATE! I have been broke (working full time) and hungry too. An ugly messy divorce w/child custody battle. No child support... I was able to make sure my daughter was NEVER hungry tho, thank the Lord! She's now 24 ❤️ She never knew how desperate our situation was or how terrified I was back then. I started slowly stockpiling 3 years ago. Best thing I ever did! I'm 60 y/o now and have been blessed with good health. One random day in August about lunch time I began to feel so bad. I had flu like symptoms, fever, aches and so weak... I took tylenol as I always do for everything 😂. Within a couple of hours I was getting worse, confusion, slurred speech, shortness of breath and getting much weaker... I live alone but my brother lives on my street. He knew I was feeling bad and had checked on me earlier. I called him and told him I thought I should go to the ER. He was at my house in minutes to drive me❤️. I was septic. I had developed a kidney infection from a large kidney stone that I had NO IDEA I had! I was transported to another hospital by ambulance that night and they kept me a week. I had heard of sepsis but didn't know anything about it. I made a full recovery, Thank you Jesus! My point... My brother is diabetic w/heart disease. He frequently has to go to the hospital for complications. Some time last year I had made up a "hospital bag" so I could jump and run with him if I needed to. I got that bag out of the closet and I was ready to go. I never dreamed I would need it for myself someday but I was sooo grateful for those things I had already packed. I didn't have to try to think or try to pack in the condition I was in. When I was released I was still pretty weak. As we drove home he asked me if I needed to stop at the store for anything 🙄😂... I can't tell you the relief I felt to be able to tell him, "No, I don't need a thing, I have everything I need already at home." Crisis comes in all forms, and can happen w/o warning. I also lost a weeks pay being out work but the impact of the lost wages was milder because I didn't need to buy anything. Being transparent here... I have always, ALWAYS been a procrastinator. Oh, I'm a great PLANNER, but a mover and shaker... I am not 😂. But I have seen for myself the importance of preparing the best I can for anything unforeseen. I started my stockpile in a hall closet and my family laughed and laughed at my "tower of tp" and powdered peanut butter 😮😂. But I laughed right along with them and continued my journey. My daughter even commented once that I was spending "unnecessary money." I have now added shelves and I coupon to maintain my pantry levels. My family doesn't laugh at me much anymore. My brother (on a fixed income) hasn't had to buy tp, paper towels, canned chicken, soap, shampoo etc... in a few years. My niece (now in college) has a small pantry in her dorm 😮! I help her with her stock. My daughter? Oh yeah, she's had her own SHTF events in the last year. I made her several crisis boxes to help her get thru some tough times. She was so grateful! And last Christmas she asked me for "a big box of stockpile stuff!" 😂😂 I had so much FUN making her box(es) and customizing it with her favorite things. I apologize this got long🙄 but if you've read this far, Guys, please take a little time to consider the "what ifs" that can happen in our lives. I made that hospital bag from my own stock I already had at home in one of my daughters old bookbags. Cost me zero dollars but it was invaluable when I needed it! I was an hour from home and no car and so sick for a whole week. What a huge blessing to have my own coffee, snacks, my own toiletries and some extra clean clothes as well as a few dollar bills I had in there for coffee and snack machines (that I didn't use). I didn't know how bleak my outcome could have been until I got home and watched some CZcams videos about sepsis. My priorities have changed since then and I have truly made an effort to overcome my procrastinating personality. Preparedness is a journey and I never want to turn back from it. My favorite thing about it has been my ability to help others who have fallen on hard times. I've been able to help coworkers and friends in need ❤. That "tower of tp" is a long way from the old days when all we had were those old Little Ceasar's napkins I had stuffed in a drawer. 😮 Sometimes I would go outside and sit in my car to cry so my daughter wouldn't see me. I truly believe we learn more from our struggles in life than we ever learn during the highlights. I will never forget where we came from. Be blessed all! ❤❤

    • @ariofsouthdakota
      @ariofsouthdakota Před 5 měsíci

      Im certainly sorry for the struggles you have faced. But I'm glad those struggles turned into an amazing blessing for you and the ones you love. And yes, sepsis is a nasty beast. I had something similar once. Trying to get my cats out during a fire alarm didn't end well. And cat scratch fever is a real thing. I went to the ER that day, and the doctor said I would be fine if I waited until Payday to get my meds. The next day at work, i suddenly got weak and lethargic and told my manager Im not feeling well. Went back to the ER, and they said the cat bite/scratches led to a blood infection and held me hostage for 3 stressful days. I couldn't sleep, and with my food allergies, they didn't have much on the menu for me to eat. Took 36 hours until someone could take my dog out. (Who surprisingly didn't potty anywhere in my house) so it was very stressful. A hospital bad would have been great. Im saving that idea for emergancies. I am very glad you are covered in case of emergency and hard times. My brother tries teasing me anout it and I remind him how FEMA reccomends everyone keeps some energency supplies to get us by for awhile in case of natural disasters. Then reminded him of the 3 tornados that Ripped through Sioux Falls one september day and how I managed to curl up in the bathtub with 2 cats and a dog while the alerts were going non stop on my phone. He shut up then. Im not full on apocalypse prepper, but I am prepared for zombies! 😂

    Dear madame, thank you for your instructive video. I could feel that I am not really alone as you said. My questions to you are follow: is it possible to can soups, stews, sardines, tuna, etc ... using mylar bags? Retort time for all kind of foods remain the same? I will appreciate to hearing from you.

    • @ariofsouthdakota
      @ariofsouthdakota Před 5 měsíci

      Great question. Mylar bags have plastic liners in them that melt and release toxins when exposed to heat. So cant even pour boiling water them. Retort bags are a special type of mylar that can withstand the heat in pressure cooking. I've read up about stews being retort canned. Im not so sure about soups. I know pressure canning them laid out properly is the key to getting these to work right without them exploding everywhere. It may be possible, but it's so new in a home canning sense that most of it is trial and error right now.

I have freeze tried some Chili already, It reconstitutes really well. I can certainly show how that's done. You can just strain the ice out with a hand held colander or mesh strainer. Then you can filter the oil afterward.

    I like your idea. When I was in the Army, we broke our MRE’s down to last us 3 days per MRE. We did this because we never new when we’d be resupplied when we were out on extended missions.

      Thank you for your service. And I completely understand that. I once went hungry barely able to feed myself and pay my rent on my meager paycheck. So I vowed to not let myself go through that again. I even started retort canning to make more ready to eat meals, but I still like the idea of having a days supply of food in 1 package. Though they are still rationed, they will keep someone alive. My newer ones however will be having more substance with home freeze dried foods and retort canned foods. Honestly I just love having them ready in case of a disaster.

      @@ariofsouthdakota if you’ve got a food dehydrator, you can make your own beef jerky, and vacuum seal it also to put in with your MRE’s. It’s an extra protein source. As a tip, total up the calories of everything you’re putting into your meals. The military MRE’s have around 3500 calories in each MRE. Another side note, include some toilet tissue, that way, you’re not caught with your pants down, and can’t finish taking care of business. You could even throw some gum in them also. If it helps, buy a military MRE and dissect it to give you some different ideas for your MRE’s. Back in the day, they put little bottles of Tobasco sauce in the meals to allow us soldiers to add a little spicy flavor to our meals. I hope this helps you a little bit more.

Those are some of my newer videos if you want to check them out. Except the protein ration bar. That one is in the making. Ive also gotten into retort canning which is another great way to add protein to MRE's. Should check those out, and stick around, there will be more awesome survival foods going up on my channel. It just cover alot of subjects.

    • @ariofsouthdakota
      @ariofsouthdakota Před 6 měsíci

      I filter it between every batch to remove any water. And when using the Robinair oil, I noticed the oxydation. Its simply a matter of needing new oil.

    • @CharlieB_P2ST
      @CharlieB_P2ST Před 6 měsíci

    • @ariofsouthdakota
      @ariofsouthdakota Před 6 měsíci

      I just use coffee filters. I thought HR was also supposed to filter between each batch? Since water can het into the oil. I even bought the harvest right oil filter. I actually dont mind filtering between each batch though, that way I can spot a problem early. Thankfully this issue resolved itself.

    Ari: I just saw a video on another channel where they were freeze drying blueberries. It turns out that you need to pierce them. This could also be the problem with cranberries. When berries have skins they do one of two things in the freeze dryer if you don't poke the berries the either pop and make a mess or they turn into a powdery mess like powder in the centers. I know it sounds like a lot of work. One of the other commenters on the channel suggested using a new dog brush to poke the blueberries so you can do several at a time, be sure to get one with a hair release lever as it will release the berries once they have been poked. I am assuming they are talking about one with metal bristles.

    • @ariofsouthdakota
      @ariofsouthdakota Před 6 měsíci

      Yeah, Ive seen posts on that. Already seen people say that prefreezing them breaks the skin enough for freeze drying. I might have to do a run where I try a few different methods in 1 batch.

      Great idea! I love it. I'm getting ready to do some math and make freeze dried individual jam packs. though will need to pack the sugar separate from the rest. so that's why its going to take a little math to figure out how much of what will be needed for the recipe. leaving the sugar out so it doesn't explode in the freeze dryer. I have done some strawberry banana powder for smoothies so far. but haven't made any smoothies just yet.

      @ariofsouthdakota Před 7 měsíci

      They are retort bags, i put a link to them in the description. Im not sure how high above sea level you are. That determines how much PSI you need for pressure cooking. It follows the same pressure cooking rules as jars. it just needs to be layed out differently to prevent blowouts like a few we saw. Under 4,000 elevation is 11psi for pressure cooking. Where I am, it's above 4,000 ft and requires 15psi. And each food has different time lemgths, but I give mine a little extra so the food on the inside also gets up to proper temperature.
